Strapcode is nothing but male endlink trash. I guess islander has some female models, but they're all bulky piles of shit.

US is the only one that actually lists the fucking specs properly. And they're the only ones that make wearable bracelets in terms of weight. All around the 50g mark, while Islander are all up at fucking 80+, bloated piles of shit with bulky clasps.

>$1500 for a basic module and a titanium bezel+bracelet
The module is significantly better than the 5610. You don't have to pay $1500 but you have to pay at least around $500 for the steel models with STN. You also get a titanium case and screwdown back, sapphire, and DLC. It's definitely overpriced but nothing else compares.
>5610 is my favorite model because it's completely carefree for me, it can sinc with the multiband signal no problem
Every other models with multiband is better than the 5610 in my opinion.
>and the dimensions fit my thin wrist better. And I actually like the assymetry. With the titanium mod it feels perfect, I'm really satisfied with it.
I'm glad you're satisfied with it. For me the smaller size is not worth the lack of bezel compatibility with the regular squares. It limits your options greatly.

>What are the downsides of solar and atomic on a G-Shock?
Having both and using them day to day there is no significant difference. It's nice having perfect second accuracy but depending where you live you have to make sure you put your watch at the best location which is usually by the window at night. Solar is also nice so you can replace the battery every 20-30 years instead of every 10. I have never had issues keeping my battery at 100% but some people have, if they wear long sleeves or if they don't wear their watch all the time. If you have multiple models it just gets compounded. Yes, you can leave them out but not everyone wants to do that. In conclusion it's a lot of unnecessary babysitting and I find changing the time twice a year on a regular model just as worry free. The problems solar/atomic fixes are comically small. People just like it because it's cool tech and it is but it's not necessary.

I understand the US tropic is supposedly historical and maybe I shouldn't judge until I've worn the original, but I've worn the modern silicone strap that came with my seiko and it's about as comfortable as any strap I've ever touched, it's just kinda ugly (but still way better looking than the uncle seiko which looked better in the pictures)

Reliable timekeeping(not atomic)
10+ years of battery life

Preferably have a digital display,a non rubber/resin/plastic wristband and other functionalities other than an alarm

The day I have 1k to blow on a watch, I'll buy the Victorinox Journey 1884 with a wooden bracelet. Idk why no one ever talks about that brand's watches, they look pretty good, they're fairly priced, it has a beautiful ceramic bezel, you can choose automatic (with an in house movement) or quartz movement on each model, and they're almost as tough as G-shocks. What's not to like ? And yet I never see anyone wearing Victorinox watches. Maybe a few Inox there and there but that's it.

Being a contrarian doesn't make you right. The 1159 is too damn big and too damn thick in an era when watches are getting smaller and, more importantly, thinner. And all that thickness still gets you zero water resistance.

They were truly thinking that abomination was going to be the thing that unshackled them from being the royal oak company.

Admittedly, the Starwheel complication is cool, but they've done it before in better-looking watches.

Many such cases.
The Breguet Marine was a nice, understated sports watch. ("Sports" in that it had crown guards and 50m WR) and they turned it into this weird rubber-strap abortion.

The Type XX should have been the easiest thing in the world: just make it like the old one. And then someone from marketing showed up and said "make it oversized and add a date window!"

Some companies just can't do sports watches, it seems...

Some companies shouldn't make sports watches. Considering their entire aesthetic and history Breguet falls into that camp.
Unfortunately because every boomer midlifecrisiser absolutely NEEDS a sports watch even though the most activity they get is maybe walking up and down the stairs in their house, that's what the market thinks it wants.
If they shilled the fuck out of dressier watches then that's what the slackjawed consooomers would want. But nooooo, everyone wants to larp as james bond or whateverthefuck so everyone has to scramble to copy the royal joke, the submariner or some dogs breakfast rm.

I think once upon a time "The Citizen" and "Chronomaster" used to be the same line. "The Citizen: Chronomaster" though they seem to bother with the chronomaster subtitle anymore.
I don't say buy or don't buy from these sites, but I've found them useful to see what's available and what has been available and is now out of production.
You might find a citizen model you like that you'll have to get used because it's some older Japan only model.
Until very, very recently The Citizen and Chronomaster were JDM only, so there's not much out there about them and so I've defaulted to these jap watch resellers to look at stuff:
https://www.sakurawatches.com/watches/citizen-watches/filter/19-collection,the-citizen
https://www.ippojapanwatch.com/collections/citizen-the-citizen

I'm partial to the AQ4100-57L (38.3mm, titanium, really nice blue dial) and the costlier AQ6100-56L (nodate, sparkle blue, steel, 39mm with the world's most accurate quartz movement).

Besides battery stuff, you have to ask whether or not this annoys you:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxM3k2PvSQw
more recently
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrZMPyVkD0E
Comments say that it changed 4mins after midnight.
They also explain that the citizen is so smooth and instant because it's electronically managed whereas the relatively lower tech Seiko does it mechanically like with their mechanical watches.
Depends on what you like.

You do have to fiddle with batteries, they're just much longer lasting rechargeables and should be good for about 10 years. When they go, it's a unique citizen part number that is based on a standard rechargable cell, with some proprietary leads soldered to it to "fit" the movement. There have been some horror stories about citizen not being very supportive of non-japanese customers which ultimately drove me away from those watches, otherwise they're really cool

Also they do make a smaller one, but it's not a signed crown. if you want the signed crown you have no choice but to get the gigantic one

Should be 15-25 nowadays, shouldn't it?
Yeah when these were Japan only they didn't give shit, but Citizen has realized that it is terribly behind Seiko in terms of outreach for its premium lines and now that generally when people buy a costlier watch it's never quartz but almost always some sort of mech and with smartwatches/phones really signalling the final death knells for all quartz-based watches since their primary benefit over other watches is now gone, I think Citizen is changing its tune. It will have to.
That The Citizen is finally being offered elsewhere besides Japan shows this. Whether it'll help them or not I don't know, but the the only mechanical "The Citizen" that came and went a year or so ago and nobody gave a shit. Citizen had better get a move on, whatever it is that they plan on doing.

I thought the date change would annoy me but then I realized I'm never up that late anyway, I think I've seen it change twice since I bought it. The real annoyance is having to change the date when the month is less than 30 days.

Also I may have skimmed the thread too fast but you're leaving out the best part of The Citizen which is the independently adjustable hour hand. That is much more interesting to me than the instant date change at midnight on the dot, since, like I said, I'm never up that late anyway.

In the end my concerns about my watch being bricked won out over the gee whiz features, and I went for the Grand Seiko. But I still think about getting a The Citizen in addition

Yeah but they only put them in their bigger watches. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be, I'm going on memory) even the 37.5mm The Citizen has it. Seiko doesn't have anything under 39.5 with the hour hand and the lug to lug makes it wear larger.

>> No.17658928

Good point. Anyway my post-purchase rationalization is as follows. On a 9F watch, the interval between midnight and the date window switch actually varies somewhat between specimens, because it depends on the skill of the individual watchmaker attaching the date wheel to the date change mechanism. It will never be perfect, and that is by design, and the nature of the imperfection is always unique. So it's like wabi sabi, for quartz.

Or maybe it's all cope.

Number I'm seeing online in say yt reviews and anecdotes from forums of ecodrive divers is, upper end, 20 years. I'll assume 25 is the absolute max they could go before shitting the bed. I don't know what the official citizen literature says about their higher end pieces but you'd assume that it would at least be better than 10. That's not bad, and in say 25 years time will you even still have the watch? Will you still be around? Will anyone be around that can replace the necessary parts? The same question can be posed for every single watch sold today be it quartz or mechanical.
20+ years, best case scenario, where you get exceptional accuracy and you don't have to worry about a periodic servicing of mechanical parts by the fewer and fewer watchmakers that exist nor do you have to worry about locating batteries. I wonder when some green EU bullshittery will finally do away with disposable batteries entirely.
Buy, wear, forget for a quarter of a century, hopefully.

Of course, that phrase always gets the conspiritards' brainworms wriggling.

I wear my 5610 with a chink bracelet and bezel for work. Saved my hand once from being chopped off when a stray shovel hit me in the wrist, bracelet deflected it. Hardly got a scratch on it too. Love that thing.

Thank you for having the patience to do that as I do not. That's unfortunate. You'd figure the second highest level of gshock watches would include such a basic feature.

I think it's cute, but i'd rather think of it as a "slushie colored watch" rather than a "CUTING YOUR DICK AND THEN INVERTING IT INSIDE YOUR BODY AND STUFFING A DILDO INSIDE YOUR WOUND SO THAT IT DOESN'T CLOSE AND IT SMELLS LIKE FECAL MATTER ALL ALONG, FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS, UNTIL THE DAY THAT YOU FINALLY DECIDE TO OFF YOURSELF watch".

Maybe some of you will find this interesting. Most higher end watchmakers have been raising their prices rapidly over the last few years but Lange has been increasing their prices by as much as 15-20% at a time which is virtually unheard of. They are also consolidating their distribution by squeezing out ADs in favor of boutiques which will not offer discounts. Despite this, Langes are still flying off the shelf and it is extremely difficult to get anything more complicated than the most basic models, which have risen in MSRP by roughly $10k in 3 years.

However, the secondary market is lagging behind, but I expect their prices to rise by a lot. All this to say if you've been in the market for a Lange, you should buy it used quickly before the secondary market reacts to the insane price increases and reduced discount availability.

Spreadsheet showing how Lange prices have changed over the years:

As evidenced by >>17659518 you know he's just going to continue to spout bad-faith "arguments" until someone can produce a timestamped video of the CEO of Swatch claiming that watch sizes are coming down because of the Chinese, using the most racist possible language.

Remember: this is still 4chan and that kid is 15.
