I installed instagram to look at watches and got this algorithm that was all literal jews buying and selling luxury watches to each other in their jewelry stores. It changed my perspective about aftermarket prices.

"Suggest a watch for me."
> Your budget
200-250€ max
> Watch type
i need a dress watch, a diver/dress hybrid would also be ok
> Movement
doesnt matter
> Desired features
10bar would be nice, 5bar minimum - daydate would be nice but not a must
> Preferred strap option
doesnt matter
> Wrist size or desired watch size
doesnt matter

The watch has to match green/grey clothes.

Thoughts on Chrono24?

Thinking about getting a Rolex OP from them and the seller is in Japan.

The site says it only sells genuine watches, but is that true?

>> No.17655144

It's shipped from seller to buyer directly, they can't tell if it's fake.
They do keep your money for 14 days leaving you time to dispute the purchase before the seller gets it but I don't think it makes a meaningful difference.
As usual buy the seller, not the watch. If he has 1k+ transactions with 4-5 stars it's unlikely he's flipping fakes.

i've bought probably 7 or 8 watches through Chrono24. rules to follow are:

- do not buy from southern european (i have had 2 separate italian sellers try to fuck me over), eastern european, or latin american sellers
- japanese sellers are the most honest. what you see is what you will get, but strangely most of the time the watches they sell on chrono24 are scratched to hell for some reason, but they are honest about it. their watches also usually sell for higher prices than in the West.
- make sure they have plenty of good reviews, even if it's an AD
- if a seller has a picture of the watch that looks like a stock photo, there's a 99% chance that they themselves do not have the watch on hand and they plan on just buying the watch themselves and then sending it to you, avoid these people/AD's
- as soon as you receive the watch have it inspected. there's a period of time where you can have chrono24 get you your money back, while it's in their escrow
- document everything
- unless you REALLY trust the seller, only use credit cards or the escrow service for payments. if it's an international seller avoid direct bank transfers, even if they offer a lower price for the watch

I recall reading some watch autist screed about how the old sub movements, pre-14060 etc., were pieces of engineering beauty and "true workhorses" and that was lost come the 90's onward.
I dunno enough about them to be able to tell what's a good price, condition or just how viable it it to wear daily a sub from the late 80's.
Are these still able to be serviced? I know rolex has a kind of cutoff point where they just run out of old parts like how a couple of years ago a range of 70's day-dates dropped in price and you could pick one up for 10k, and this was partially due to the fact that rolex service centers were out of parts or something.

Damn, that looks way nicer irl than I would’ve expected.
I don’t necessarily like the idea of buying a Chinese brand, but it’s not like the US micros aren’t still manufactured in china. And saving $400 makes it pretty tempting.
Just have to decide if having a date wheel is actually useful, and if I want the sanitized dial or not. I like having the little “gmt automatic etc” on there, it’s a shame San Martins logo is so dopey looking.
You aren’t wrong about the Lorier lugs, they’re unique, but definitely a little awkward.
And no complaints about shilling from me, I like hearing from people who actually paid for something rather than some youtuber who got sent one for free in exchange for his review.

The reason water resistance ratings are misleading is because they are achieved in an ideal, static, laboratory setting. Mitigating factors are temperature and motion that will cause increased water pressure such that you can achieve 50m of pressure when you are nowhere close to 50m deep. On a watch like a 15202 which doesn't even have a screw down crown you're courting disaster and a massive repair bill. There have been lots of articles written over the year about watch water resistance ratings and why they are mainly misleading marketing fluff.

How much water resistance do you need?
How many times in your life have you dived?
How many times was it below 50m?
Haw many of those times did you wear a metallic watch?

>> No.17656368

>>17656361
The Cellini is the same thickness as the Daydate. Cellini is 39mm diameter, Daydate is available in 40mm or 36mm. Neither is particularly more of a "hunk of metal" than the other. I'd argue the Daydate being available in 36mm would make it a more comfortable and compact watch for dressing up.

The Cellini was relatively recently swollen up to that size, rolex felt they had to do it as they weren't selling. According to rolex the DJ,DD,OP are not classed as "dress" watches. Just because the dive watch crazy pleb market has had their senses so skewed by the oversaturation of the market by ever larger and gaudy sports watches doesn't change this fact. Rolex has one dress watch line. Everything else is a sports watch and others are professional watches.

Nobody else is really doing quartz with decent finishing anymore. The best you can do is find an old 70/80s model.

Solid, all steel movements, 40-50 years old and they keep better time today without a service history than they did off the factory line.

This is bullshit
The reason that ratings are misleading is that brands just fucking shamelessly lie. They will put 30m water resistance ratings on watches they know damn well will leak in a bowl of water because consumers are cowards and don't do anything about it.
