These are all solid. The Barbour looks great, I'm envious. I may be looking in the wrong place but I've never found one with long enough sleeves. I understand the logistics of brands not offering tall sizes, it makes finding certain items or their equivalents challenging.
I will echo the comment about shirt, I'm sure it's a great shirt and you love it but it's working against you in the fit; it would look better being the focal point in a different combination.

I like the sweater a lot and good job making duck boots go with something, good inspo for those are rare. I agree it would go a lot better with a blue OCBD but separately the shirt would be great as well.

Great as always, love the trousers. I was wondering, what's the order of formality, what goes first, a tie or a pocket square? Is a pocket square less formal than a tie? Now that I type that I realize it probably is.

Anyone got any recommendations for high waisted denim? Drake’s is the obvious choice but I’ve read their denim quality went down the tubes after they moved production to Portugal and am not too keen to pay $450 for some shitty jeans. I’ve heard Orslow 105s are good but not sure if the rise is as high. Jacket is a 60% linen/40% wool hop sack from Sid Mashburn in a muted green color. Shoes are color 8 tassels from Alden which I wear almost every day now, they just go with everything.

From what I understood, pocket squares are less formal than ties because they used to be/may still be "handkerchiefs" so you're supposed to be able to use them like fancy Kleenex. Honestly though there are so many "rules" of formality that are no longer relevant that I wouldn't worry about it. "No brown in town" used to be a rule too.

>Jewish
Yes, ethnically. I won't go into it much since it's 4chan and I'm not suicidal.

For high waisted denim try this out, you can search by your desired rise

https://www.selfedge.com/index.php?route=product/jean_finder

I bought a pair of Sugarcane 1947s this way, perfect jeans.

The other easy option is custom made jeans, I've used Luxire to make a pair of raw selvedge ghurka trousers. You simply tell them the rise you want and they make it. I'll try to remember to wear my pair tomorrow. Paul Frederick makes a decent pair of high waisted pleated cuffed denim trousers but I much prefer the Luxire. The PF pair is way too thin and soft, they have the ubiquitous and evil stretch to them. Berle has a similar pair, I'll look into them next. If you want dirt cheap but still excellent, Wrangler Raw Cowboy Cut Straight and Slim straight are the best value out there. Around $30-40 on Amazon and beat the shit out of anything under $100 in fit and quality, but their color isn't as dark as I'd like.

Button-down collars were developed specifically because men weren't wearing ties with them, such as when playing polo. That's why they exist, so you can leave the top button(s) unbuttoned without your spread collar splaying out everywhere. When you wear them with ties it falls somewhere between wearing both a belt and suspenders and wearing a polo shirt with gym shorts.

Ok now that I've processed the cartoon vest let's look at the rest of it:
1: Top left shirts. These look good, I think you'll be fine here as long as they're cotton and fit decently. Looks safe.
2: Solid blue shit top middle . Again, looks ok as long as it's cotton.
3: Shawl cardigan. I prefer darker, monochromatic cardigans but I don't see anything wrong with this. My concern with you is mashing it up with too many other colors.
4: Topman vest. That looks like polyester, is it? If so it's trash. If not, might be ok if you pair it with a solid color sport coat.
5: Gray striped shirt. Nice I have one in this exact shade and pattern from Brooks Brothers.
6: Cartoon vest. The problem is more than the patches, it's that we both know you're going to put that with a purple sport coat and everyone will scream at you
7: Striped polo. I really hate this and I can't even explain why. It's just sad?

All in all Doug that's not too bad. Worst case scenario you get a few versatile shirts out of the deal, I think you did ok here.

>>17652918
This is fucking awful. So many things going on here: Man purse. Prefaded/distressed jeans with western crease. Boots look cheap like Doc Martens. I honestly don't know what the fuck is happening at his jeans cuff, is that another pair of pants underneath coming out? Like silk pajamas? Sweater is gaudy and doesn't really match anything else. Shirt and tie are ok but would look better with other fits. Coat is ok. I like Dior but trad isn't their thing, never really was. If anyone wants to see more, this is from their Fall 22 show.

>Cartoon vest. The problem is more than the patches, it's that we both know you're going to put that with a purple sport coat and everyone will scream at you
first of all its a suit jacket from a suit, second of all what do you think would go well with it? maybe just a charcoal suit?
>Striped polo. I really hate this and I can't even explain why. It's just sad?
interesting
maybe "sad" is exactly the kind of vibe im going for with it desu.
imagine it with some darkwash jeans, worn white sneakers, and just a t shirt underneath. no jacket.
the image that sort of fit, especially on someone like me creates in my head is something that teeters between grunge and and tech support guy, something awkward and super uncool, but also cozy and relatable. Like, idk, incelcore or 2000s emo or something. like you look at it and the mop of curly hair on top of it and you immediately get a vibe like "this guys probably a little autistic, but he means well i guess"
i wanna that to be the kind of aesthetic i fall back on when im not wearing suits.
alternatively, i could pair it up with that blue flannel pinstripe suit or lime tonic suit and create a pretty striking but minimalistic fit.

>Polyester ok with anything
No. Force yourself to understand polyester is bad, don't buy anything with polyester, even normies can tell polyester looks off. Occasionally there are very, very rare exceptions. I found a couple of American sport shirts from the 60s and 70s that were a blend, like 70-80% cotton and the rest poly. They look good, I don't know what magic was used but there's more cotton than poly in them. I know you want to have a wardrobe "now" but every dollar you spend to have mediocre shirt now will be a dollar you will regret not being able to spend on something better later.

>Tweetie vest
I'm going to assume you magically get rid of all traces of the patches. Then you have a solid color deep green vest. It could work ok with charcoal (maybe) but I think you'd be better off pairing it with an odd sport coat. Something like a tweed or houndstooth with orange tones, that vest, and khakis. Maybe navy sport coat.

>Lime tonic suit plus polo

Jesus Doug please tell me you didn't buy a lime colored suit oh god you did didn't you?

Pair that polo with baggy blue jeans, chunky white sneakers and a black leather jacket and you'll have that nerd vibe which is what you're looking for. I'm hesitant to say this because it's far from my style but I think that would work for you. It wouldn't be tip but I think it might work.

Don't overload loud colors and patterns on everything else, you don't need to be maximalist on every fit. Muted color shirts. Ivory, pale blue, maybe a pale red/orange. The shirts you just bought should work for this. Sensible pattern like small stripes, small glen plaid, etc. Fight the urge to slap purple anywhere near this suit. Brown shoes work, a blue suede like the pair in my pic today would work too.

NTA but do you consider what the model is wearing trad?
I get it, a style has to evolve over time or it becomes antiquated and dies ( wing collars, long tails on jackets, etc). But at what point does something go from an evolution of a style to an entirely different style? It's good but I would have a hard time defending it as trad but to be honest I wouldn't know what else to call it. It's not streetwear, that's for sure.

Prefaded/distressed jeans are for posers and tryhards, and should be ridiculed as such.

Not that great desu. The jacket isn't great with already long sleeves made longer by the sweater, and the lack of any sort of graceful look near the waist, and the jeans are high enough up for the slack of the socks to fucking in the line going to the foot. To say nothing of the man purse.

Nothing to see here, this is some basic bitch blue/brown with a splash of yellow thrown in. Anyone who's heard of complimentary colors knows this is nothing special. Even the shirt/tie combo is just a more muted version of that same color combo, with cool grey stripes vs a warm grey tie.

Spier & Mackay do suits as small as 34. They also have a Made to Order program, so that you can configure the style. Same with SuitSupply, who I think go down as low as a 32. Honestly, entry level MtM is the way to go if you're buying a decent suit, just on the basis that you don't need to spend money getting trousers hemmed, sleeves shortened/lengthened slightly at a later date, etc.

Bought a shirt from CT. What's the deal with these loose threads? Should I cut them?

General review:
>plastic buttons
>nice brass collar stays
>heavier cotton than I am used to, feels quite stiff (good thing)
>fit is as expected
>extremely big wrists, I don't know how they came up with it (not possible to adjust either)

All in all, I don't regret the purchase, but I am not sure if I would do it again. Good value at €30, not worth it at €90.

Agreed. Ive been working on developing an ivy wardrobe for about a year and have only recently started to understand the billow. I was conflating the muffin top and the billow. The deflated muffin top look is no good, what you want is a boxy shape extending fully from the waist to the chest. I think it looks good and it feels great compared to a slim or military tucked shirt, more breathable and easy to move around in.

Absolutely. Cut on lighter colors, burn on dark colors.

The basics are pretty much the same as they are everywhere else, one or two decent suits, good quality shirts and some casual options, jeans, chinos, polos, etc. Depending on where you'll work, you might need some more suits, but even politicians are starting to move away from the traditional suit, so decide on that only once you've know what is expected of you at work.
Northern Germany is traditionally anglophile, while southern Germany has it's own identity, but a proper suit should fit in anywhere. Bernhard Roetzle has highlighted some very good stores and tailors on his blog, feineherr.de. Vienna is not far away from major south German cities, so a lot of people do their shopping their, the same was true with north Germany and London, but Brexit has made it less popular.
Where are you moving to? I might be able to suggest some stores to do your shopping at.

Ed Meier is very famous, they used to hold Royal Warrants with the bavarian Royal Family and they have been consistently named the best menswear retailer in all of Germany. I've also heard good things about J.G. Mayer, but have never been there myself.
>>17663823
Michael Possaner is a superb tailor, or so I've heard. Knize have stores in Paris and New York and were holders of Royal Warrants with the Hapsburgs and everything I've bought from them was amazing, I have heard some negative things about their MTM and Bespoke services however.
Jungmann & Neffe have amasing accesories and I have heard that they will also do bespoke commissionings, a great place to visit if you care a lot about fabrics. Frack & Co also has a store in Vienna, which is great if you need anything related to tailcoats on a budget, they also are the only store that sells opera cloacks OTR.

Just leave, anyone who posts in this thread gets what they deserve. This is a cenotaph for a long gone period to be "appreciated" by people who want to safely masturbate to le heckin kino inspo pics and not post anything themselves.

>Post inspo guys come on where's the fresh inspo look at this inspo oh wow an ad from 1986 oh god oh oh God I'm gonna poooooooooooosssssttttt

This thread is slowly strangling itself because anyone that tries to post fits gets mocked when they don't look exactly like the junior year of Wharton in 1987. The concept of growth or willingness to learn is meaningless here. Contrarian faggots riddle most threads but here it's the norm. Each iteration of the thread takes longer to fill up. And before you bitches start wailing that people don't need to post themselves to make a good thread: shut the fuck up you retarded weirdo. People post their boots in the boot thread, people post their jeans in the jeans thread, they post SEXcore fits in the sexcore thread, etc etc. Anyone expecting a thread about a fashion topic and not wanting people to post pics of themselves wearing that fashion is a lunatic who should probably also leave and just buy vintage LL Bean catalogs on eBay.

If you're really interested in learning anything and improving your style, go anywhere but here. I'm disgusted saying this but r/Navyblazer is comically better, their WAYWT threads shit on nearly every fit that gets posted here, downside is of course they're redditors.

Why is grey flannel the most versatile bottom in tailoring but grey denim is less versatile than blue, especially when paired with sport coats?

>Why is grey flannel the most versatile
Because all shades of grey from white to black are not colors. Just grades of lightness. And can be combined with any color with only choosing a proper lightness.

I have the opportunity to dress in a trad summer fit soon. I'm going to a wedding next month in Cape Cod.
Thinking blue blazer, light beige pants maybe pleated, and a brooks bros striped blue button up. No tie brown shoes.
Question being is pleated too much, is beige pants with blue blazer tacky and is it too casual for a wedding and I was going without tie how do we feel about that.

No

depends on the wedding, was a dresscode specified in the invitation?

and I was going without tie how do we feel about that.
wear one, you'll always be able to take it off if no one else is wearing a tie.
