Dude, absolutely no hate or negativity towards you, but try to develop some actual sense of style. That collar roll you commented on is horrible, as the ones on the shirt you are wearing. These shapeless, extremelly small collars are nothing but an economy of material on a poorly made shirts. Develop your sense of style and if you're buying vintage, buy actual nice vintage things, not H&M level of vintage garbage. It's all the same with art, architecture, fashion and style. You can tell a building is ugly when you look at it. You can tell the same if you look how people dress. You seem to have some sort of basic understanding of what should work together - e.g this "workwear" look. Hello /fa/ I am new to this board. I am 31 years old and trying to, for the first time in my life, address my complete lack of knowledge in fashion. Is there some sort of cheat sheet or beginners guide to basic men’s fashion?
Example: blue shirts go best with brown pants, you must own x pairs of shoes in y different colors, things of that nature?
I’ve had a life changing event occur, overcame what some thought was a terminal diagnosis, so I want to really get out there and attack life!
For reference, I am 6’4.
I am mostly interested in casual and business wear, but really any forms of fashion basics or as I mentioned earlier if there are basic tenets of dressing principles, I would really appreciate any and all help.

first, start off with casual pieces that tend to have a lower margin of error
jeans, loosish tops, tees, sweaters, belts, sneakers, that kind of thing. Go for classic canvas/rubber sneakers, no mesh shit. No ripped jeans, and make sure they aren't skinny fit either.

then, go upwards on the formality spectrum just a little.
measure your neck and find some dress shirts in that size, white and blue are pretty safe but patterns and pastels can also work. 5 of these should do you quite well. Avoid stubby short collars and anything not 100% cotton.

then a casual blazer or sport coat (look up the difference between those and a suit jacket, don't fuck it up and wear a shiny suit jacket with jeans)
ties are also fairly cheap second hand, and fun to combine with your shirts as long as you know what you're doing (no big bulky knots that don't fit under the collar, don't forget the dimple, avoid fugly 90s printed ties, etc)
this is also around the time you should be getting dress shoes. dark brown at this stage. avoid bright tan shoes and square toes.

Then get one good dark-colored suit off ebay or etsy, at the very least 50% if not 100% wool, make sure you have your measurements right (measure your chest and put that number in front of you and then L (6"4, you probably wear a long), and then your waist size (example: "41L 32 navy suit wool")
then get some black dress shoes.

all of this stuff should be fairly acessible on ebay and while thrifting (though the latter may be hard if you're tall)

At that point you have everything you need, everything any man should have already. From there, don't be afraid to experiment with different combos, styles that speak to you and your tastes/lifestyle, and keep learning, keep looking for inspiration, and keep adjusting your style to match your life, or if shits that kind of bad, the other way around.

also, get a pinterest board for outfit inspiration, as well as the pinterest web widget and save images from ebay to a wishlist board instead of raw-dogging it with the ebay watchlist. might sound gay but it's heaps better, trust me.
also be aware of climate and seasonal dressing, plenty of guides on that.

aliexpress is sometimes good for accessories, shoes, ties, 100% cotton shirts, and some pants if you retain your sense of taste and have the patience to sift through loads of shit.

Gentlemans's Gazette is a good resource for perfecting a formal outfit if not wardrobe, but feel free to leave the bounds of their "classic" insistence should the inspiration find you.

Part of the issue may be your camera not doing any favors with lighting/resolution.
The jacket looks thin and has a sheen to it, the buttons are really bad and there's no texture/pattern. It looks too artificially flat/uniform. Another anon recently explained to me that sport coats and blazers are better with strong texture and patterns, when they are too plain they look like orphaned suit jackets. Solid color blazers get a pass because the bright metal buttons announce that they aren't suit jackets. I don't like that jacket but if you're dead set on keeping it why not swap the buttons out?
Next issue are the trousers. There's not a lot of contrast between the jacket and the trousers. They sort of look like you needed a suit and tried to wear the suit jacket from one suit with the trousers of the other and it didn't quite work. They'd be much better off with a different colored sport coat/blazer. On the bright side the shirt looks ok, tie looks good, I like the vest. I think if you swapped out the jacket or the trousers you'd do yourself a huge favor.

Naked and Famous is still one of the best brands around if you don't wanna go full denim autism. I love the easy guy fit, but I've also heard great things about the true guy. I also really like levis 501 STF. I sized up one in the waist in order to fit my legs, and they shrank down really nicely after a hot soak.
There's also the option of going vintage. And while I love old jeans, they tend to be cut smaller in the seat and thigh relative to the waist. The ones in my fit are orange tab 505s and they're loose in the waist, but tight enough in the seat that they're a little uncomfortable to wear all day

Hard option: Thrifting used Lee and Levi's on eBay. Great values, but time consuming. Look for anything made in the USA, and make sure they show the measurements in pics. Old jeans shrink like a mother fucker, with vintage jeans I need to go up one in the waist and two in the length to get a good fit.

Avoid modern Lee, Levi's, A&E, H&M, Gap, etc. Avoid anything with stretch/elastane. If you want skinny or baggy that's fine, but a straight fit is timeless so I'd recommend starting there.
