/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - RUSSIAN HATCH GRAIN EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

eh, you are probably right.
While we are on the topic, I'm a third worlder and it's quite hard to find engineers here.
In fact, I have found two, this is one of them.
I'm really ignorant so I'd like to ask you all, are there any obvious redflags in pic related, aside from the cringe brand plate at the heel? I'm really considering pulling the trigger. It costs the equivalent of USD 130.
I'd be able to choose half or full sole like the pic, as well as the color of the sole, all black or natural leather color like the pic.
It's a relatively small business that makes boots on demand, build quality seems to be decent and it's not a bad price. There are many shit boots for that price here.

double row stitching with none of them on the outsole is a bit strange but they nailed the toe so it should be fine. this is assuming it's actually welted

Anyone know the real, non-pr fluff story behind Crown North.?
I feel like they just popped out of nowhere, but they claim to have been around for a while. I've never heard of this maker though and I like to think that I'm familiar with every remaining English maker. Are they an older, "invisible" OEM shoe factory that's decided to strike out on their own?
Or is their stuff made for them by one of the other more well known makers?

If your feet really need such widths nothing works. Not inserts, or stretching or whatever. I've spent far too much money over the years on shit that doesn't fit right. I've also imported expensive contraptions that are purportedly for stretching. Also do not work.
UNLESS the fit issue is only slight. As in, so slight that if you wore the things in it wouldn't be a problem in the first place. It cannot fix what cannot fit.
et. you can't stretch a toebox 9 times out of 10 for example, because thermoplastic stiffeners crack. If you feet can't fit it, don't buy it. Don't buy with this cope in mind because it won't work.

it had to have been a factory seconds pair, because anyone that isn't an absolute mouthbreathing retard would have contacted the store for a refund on such a blatant manufacturing defect and they would have absolutely no argument to refuse it to him
on the other hand the dude took a factory tour to get the original last, so he may just be stupid enough to throw good money after bad, in this case, just as much as it would cost to toss them away and get the same identical pair twice
of course bedo doesn't think doing this is pointless and counterproductive, when it gives him business and content for his channel
if you are stuck with a lemon like this just fucking wear it and use trees, the "stress on the brouging" won't split the cordovan anytime soon, at least not until they'll need a resole and by that point you can evaluate if it's worth resoling and fixing or you're cutting your losses

if you can't find anything on them, then they are not really that reputable, are they?
pretty sure they made shoes directly for poshmark, now went out of business, stores are getting rid of their stocks at a discount
for sure their shoes are blake stitched construction, not the best, but technically resolable, shouldn't unglue and fall apart immidiately, since there is a stitch holding the sole to the shoe and not just glue
the heel stacks are not real leather and most likely compressed cardboard
for around a $100 at a heavy discount these are not terrible, if not actually quite reasonably good value
if you say the leather is reputable go for it, but i have my doubts about the materials, even at the original price point it is a cheap departament store shoe

the lace snapped so its a bit too short to go through all the eyelets. otherwise i take one end to the top eyelet, leave a tail, and the other end to the bottom eyelet, leaving the rest of the boot lace, which goes through all remaining eyelets, creating the ladder.

Please explain width sizing to me. I'm an European and a lot of the information seems conficting to me.
Brannock has E, EE, EEE, etc. listed, however most brands don't bother with E and go straight for EE. Why is that? I've read conflicting information that E is only used for women's footwear and men's use EE or bigger. Sounds like bullshit but I want someone to dispell this for me.

Also, English width sizing. Why do some brands opt to label their regular size as E, like Crockett&Jones, when F should be used otherwise? Does that mean that the lasts they use most often for their shoes are narrow or do they have some other reason?

More, harder leather. Which of course allows for a better fit.
Celastic is cheap and easy to shape. Leather reinforcement on the heel counters and in the toebox costs more/ is more difficult to apply. Probably costs them an extra 2cents or something. So factory mass makers don't do it very often at all. Even Edward Green uses thermoplastic heel counters and toecaps.

Yeah don't accept it if it looks like it's been worn. However I have heard that redback qc's gotten kinda shitty compared to before. Probably stock from fucked up covid times. No probs with mine, but some have noticed airbubbles in the sole tread "popping" leaving a cavity or the leather tearing away from the sole on the fuse line. In the latter respect mongrels have them beat as the sole is cupsole-like and the uppers sit nestled. I think the tearing issue manifests itself pretty early though. Have a warranty.
