Because people would use photochromics with the small rectangular ugly frames of the 2000s when the technology was first released for plastic material which not only sucked but was ugly too. You need to remember most people were shopping at chain stores which had the small oval small rectangle frames for like 90% of their choices. Technology sucked other then the original glass ones (which nobody bought) and frames sucked too, so they got a bad rap. The only exception would be someone using Photogray/Photobrown (glass) and deliberately seeking good frames was the only option up until the early 2010s and nobody was doing that. Since about 2015 Zeiss and Transitions both make really good plastic photochromic lenses, with transient mirroring and polarizing coatings too now.

I was shopping for new glasses recently, initially was thinking about aviator-types, found some octagonal-ish ones worked pretty well for me.
After trying out like 4 dozen of frames I ended up with pic related, not only because of how it fits my face, but because it also was the best comfort-wise and one of the best quality-wise.
Got pretty basic Hoya Nulux 1.67 HVLL in it.

Also like >>17618411 says all titanium frames I tried were much better made than standard metal/plastic ones, including comparably or higher-priced ones.
My old (10+-years-old) metal frame has probably the most substantial quality I ever found a frame to have, but it is also relatively heavy, heavier than all frames I've tried this time. Maybe the majority of people are averse to frames above a certain weight threshold and don't care that much about flimsiness, so the makers adjusted to the demands. Other than that I can't see why metal frames can't have good quality now, besides marketing and/or production cost-saving shit.

Here's a comparison between my new and old frames on someone who looks suspiciously similar to me. The old frames are on the left and the new are on the right.
I'd ask that you give your first impressions before reading what I think about it if possible.

After that, here's all the things I personally dislike:
>I think they don't fit the shape of my face
>I think they make me look like a fucking 40 year old nerd.
>They cover my eye brows which I otherwise think are strong and generally look good.
>They're so wide that from certain angles they catch my ear in the edge of the frame or distort the shape of my face
>They draw too much attention to the fact that my right eye doesn't open as much as my left eye. I'm almost sure that this is something most people don't notice but I do.
>It's sort of ancillary, but they're so wide that I get something like motion sickness as my head moves around. I'd put up with this pretty easily if I thought they looked good though.

My old frames needed replacing anyway - as you can see they're missing one of the nose pads which made them sit on my face at a slant, the prescription is ancient and I think they could be better - but I still prefer them to my new ones now.

OK, so this guy who looks similar to you, looks like an incel with both, mainly because of the scowl and glasses.

I would return the glasses, if possible. What I would tell to this person: You seem to have a oblong/heart shaped face. Go to the store and try glasses with big round glasses and thin metal frames. Don't smile or scowl too much while trying them on. Try lose some weight, style your hair a bit and shave. If you don't immediately point out the thing with your left eye, it won't caught upon for some time. Not sure about the brows. I think that wasn't really and issues.

I tried to keep a neutral expression, dick. Me being an incel is probably unrelated.

>Go to the store and try glasses with big round glasses and thin metal frames
Absolutely not, I've tried them on and I hate them. I don't think they suit me and generally they look bad. I literally can't find a single image of a guy wearing what you're describing who doesn't look like a dork (pic rel). It's genuinely physically repulsive.
Honestly the same applies to women too.

>Try lose some weight, style your hair a bit and shave.
Thanks for the unsolicited advice, btw. Any plastic surgery I need too? Maybe a rhinoplasty?
I'm sure people really appreciate it when they ask you how their outfit looks and you tell them their makeup sucks.

Anyway sarcasm aside thanks for the insight. I'll go with a friend to replace them at some point in the near future and I was already on a diet.
I never know what to do with my hair but the fact that it's unstyled and the facial hair are mostly because it's saturday and I'm lazy. I generally only get a haircut like once every couple of months and only shave once a week because it itches. If I had some reason to dress better consistently I'd take more care of them and put more thought into both.
My neutral expression is a scowl though so there's literally nothing I can do about that one, dickhead. During conversation I generally tend to be more expressive.

Sorry about your resting bitch face, friend. Try to have a more appealing resting face, if you can though. It would do you a lot of good.

Fair point with it being Saturday and good for you to already tackle these things. I just though, a little more definition to your face would look good.

Back on topic: well I absolutely love these types of glasses, especially on women. I might be biased. I have an oblong/heart shaped face too and I wore rectangle glasses and nobody said anything about it. One female friend, whom is brutally honest said, they look like shit. As soon as I got round ones with a wire frame, I got compliments at work, family and friends. I'm not kidding or flexing. I thought they looked dorky too, at first. Then I ordered a bunch of glasses to try on at home and came to realize, that they fit much better.

Baby's first quality glasses here
I just got my first persols the 714 brown ones: >>17639615
They are amazing, all the hinges are smoth and studry the acetate frame is clear and polished like glass, the seams when they are open are almost invisible.
RayBans is shit next to them (yes I know they are both owned by luxotica).

I've been considering a pair of Savile Row Beaufort now that they've relocated to Italy instead of England. I was a bit worried that they had been purchased by a big eyewear conglomerate but seems they just moved their equipment. Their 847€ price point is a bit steep but considering they're handmade in 18k rolled gold it's something I've always wanted.
