scents I like in bottles I dislike:
>Voyage d'Hermes (the swiveling is dumb and the bottle is too weird-looking)
>Cerruti 1881 (looks okay at a distance, but the cap is ugly and the bottle feels cheap in a way)
>Neroli Intense (not terrible but visibly cheap and the cap flops around)

scents I dislike in bottles I like:
>Prada L'Homme
bottle looks great and feels great in hand. the cap is nice and heavy. the fragrance is not my thing, very powdery and sweet, like dior homme original with none of the charm or complexity
>Versace Eros

I am late 20s and just got a new job that allows fragrances, which I've never had before. I'd like to start wearing fragrances at work.

I am a somewhat androgynous male stoner, and I tend to get by in life by being cute and helpless on purpose because people find joy in helping me. I'd like my presence to be calming and pleasant for others- typically I've relied on good-smelling shampoo but I want to up my game.

yes, it's available, but somewhat limited release just like dior homme parfum. it got changed a bit though from how it was a decade ago, in 2017 to be exact. main difference is supposedly that they removed some of the myrrh and added elemi

I was afraid of that. I am under the impression that in the past decade the EU has enforced all sorts of bs restrictions on ingredients. eg. oakmoss? is verboten I believe.
I quite liked the heavy, citrusy(?) scent of the bottle I had.
Will have to smell the new one.
As long as it doesn't smell like someone bled a diabetic into a bottle, I'll probably like it. I can't abide the sickly sweet scents that have become popular in the past what, 15 years? I hate it. I hate it on women, I especially hate it in mens stuff.

While it's true that the EU can be blamed for some things (like in the case of oakmoss), it is mostly self-imposed restrictions by the IFRA. For example, there's no restriction on the use of coumarin in fragrances by anyone except for the IFRA. They do that a lot, for some reason, yet they lobby to prevent the prohibition of other stuff. They could make Le Male like they used to, but the IFRA decided against that. And to add a little schizo stuff, I think the IFRA bans anything that's cheap and lasts long and then lobbies for stuff that can't be produced synthetically for less than the natural material would cost. Can't get those cheap powerhouses, gotta protect the margins. In fact, the EU started an investigation into a whole bunch of fragrance materials, then threw out lilial, lyral, atranol and chloratranol and kept a whole bunch of other materials in - which then got restricted by the IFRA. Articles from that time talk about how the "EU wants to restrict a whole bunch of materials", but in the end, they only restricted a few (and then the IFRA fucked the rest). You can cross-reference stuff from the IFRA website with the ECHA website - for example, I just randomly picked hexyl salicylate. It is restricted by the IFRA and the ECHA has monitored it but said in their final report that it ain't of concern.
I'm not deep enough into this shit (yet), but I feel like I want to blame the IFRA more than the EU at this point.

The box. Also. When I spray it very close to the skin it smella a lot like alcohol. I do feel the smell of apple, cucumber and fruits that everyone talks about but it is very weak. I'm not sure if I got too hyped and thought this would have a powerful smell at it's price point .

not sure what's weird about the box. type in the batch code on a batch code checker and it will tell you the year its made.

coty makes the fragrance and the fragrance is weak. it DOES have decent longevity (6 hrs? more on skin) but you have to spray many many times, like overspray it. that's the price you pay for only paying 20 bucks or even less. if you can find it on sale at a marshalls or Ross for like 16, it's better that way because you will go through the bottle twice as fast as better quality fragrances. i still like and wear Voyage but you DO have to "over"spray it

>vanilla flash, tauer- a better version of TV imo in all ways (has some rose thrown in though)
>tobacco rose, papillon (it's a very green rose, but takes a little time to appreciate)
>la rhapsodie noire, dusita - combines aspects of gourmands, tobacco and fougeres. it has the same sweetness as TV, but clearly more sophisticated

He's got good insight into vintage formulations of stuff. He's some sysadmin dude who sits in a basement surrounded by cables and shit and as long as all systems are running nobody bothers him, so he reviews fragrances. He doesn't do it for financial gain, he doesn't do it for the likes or views (even on IG he's below 1k followers), he doesn't chase compliments and he doesn't care about brands or niche. The reviews are elaborate enough to get some idea of what the fragrance might be comparable to and whether or not the current formulations are fine, combined with some background history from time to time. It makes him one of the most trustworthy reviewers, as he simply doesn't care about clicks or public perception in any way. He sniffs stuff and then writes down his personal opinion.

I am 0% snob myself and the only thing I am looking for in fragrance is interesting associations which you can sperg out into a whole moodboard aesthetic imagery network, so I can relive it and amplify it every time I wear a particular fragrance or anchor it to a certain place or activity. I have smelled Frederic Malle counter and was severely disappointed, same for samples of Xerjoff I got my hands on and I was if anything positively biased. I would wear something I know several people made negative remarks on just because it goes together with a rainy weather and petrichor. Nonetheless, I really don't understand how the fuck can he come back to locker-room-core after all of nice niche he got his hands on for reviews. I get the allure of having some saint-like guy who rejected earthly delights stand for objective truth. He doesn't go very far from technical approach of providing brief historical parallels, listing notes and some aroma chemicals which lets be real is not giving you much even if you smelled all of them and has a huge chance to be fiction unless he has a chromatograph in his basement.
I liked reading kafkaesqueblog reviews of SL while I was sampling the same frags and they were quite good even if we differed in preferences. Also random russian telegram channels where it is just a brief associations dump, with a small description of what is actually sticking out to them personally. This is great to pique interest and even better if the offered interpretation ends up matching in your head, kind of like a less cheesy ELDO route offered to you as an alternative to hyping up based on notes or genre.

>> No.17618932

i went to the stores to smell this shit out, got good sniffs on like 15 of these things they had on the shelf specifically voyage and man eau fraiche and all i smell is 50% windex and maybe some other cheeky stuff that tingles the nose in a different direction jeremy is full of shit with that acting. the only one that actually got my attention was armani code
i want to smell COOL and CRAZY and FUN and INTERESTING i want to smell like DISNEYALNDS PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN, i want to smell like i just chopped down a tree, i want to smell like i just baked some bread
