How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I need your help bootfrens. I'm new to fine footwear and would appreciate some assistance. I'm looking to get a pair of boots that are formal looking enough to work with a suit, but are still rugged enough to handle a lot of walking across varied surfaces. I just got a new job that's going to involve a lot of travel, I might be at company's HQ for a bit and then out and about for the rest of the day. Not expecting to go hiking up a mountain, but mining pits and clearings in forests will be expected. I really like the look of pic related, outside of the texturing, but the price is just too much for me to handle right now. Any other brand recommendations would be appreciated. It's usually hard for me to find decent fitting footwear since my feet are EE width and I have a high arch, so even better if you know of anything that looks like these boots but is also wide.

Dress boots that work with a suit and also for hiking up a mountain and also mining pits and clearings in forests do not exist anon.
Buy a pair of black oxfords to wear with your suit (honestly these days even a black derby or loafer is acceptable and no one will care) and a pair of beater boots for those other places since they will inevitably get fucked up.
One way to avoid scratches and stuff is roughout, but it starts to look really ruff after a while of playing in the mud, the branches and the rocks.

patkhurst moose boots are here. these are ridiculously comfortable. if they didn't list the tannery i would almost think this is some fake leather. it's so soft and supple there is going to be almost break in. i do wish i could have gotten 9ee instead of 9.5, but it works with plenty of room for my width. the pictures aren't really accurate either, it's much darker in person. i really like how it constrasts with the mid sole though, much better than expected.

Are you wearing a suit into the field? Into mines? That makes no sense. And if you’re changing your clothes, you can change your shoes.

There’s just too big of a spread between formal foot ware and workwear. Closest I can think of would be highly polished plain toed calf-skin ropers with a smooth grain. But that would only work in the few states where western wear passes for business apparel.

Just to update on these, I am having a bit of trouble with the fit
The tongue just bites into my feet really hard. It's really not soft or flexible and instead of curving upwards it just digs into me.

It's overall way more stiff than any other sneaker I've ever owned, I guess because it's made of real leather and lining and needs some breaking in. I hope.

I will try the second insoles they come with (the flat ones) that should hopefully give a bit more room between the tongue and my instep

roughout is the best type of suede, it's a regular hide just turned inside out instead of splitting like normal suede, the waxing adds additional durability and water resistance

Nothing wrong with it, its a really nice and comfortable leather but its their cheapest offering for a reason.

Our Rough-Out Suede is a split suede. It is technically a waxed split suede although there are processes involved that make it independent from the classic ‘repello’ suede. For example, it is drummed less than a ‘softer’ repello suede.
The main qualities of this particular material is that it is fully waterproof and ‘roughs up’ during wear giving it a very casual appearance.
Kind regards,

James

it's a good boot for the price, but i think grant stone is overall superior in every respect if you don't care where the boot is made
people like parkhurst overall, but the crazy hype from a few years back for the brand kind of died down
their mission statement from the beginning was a GYW "made in america" boot for around $300 and that appealed to a lot of redditors looking for a intro boot
in the last year or so they outsourced production (to spain?), which goes against their founding principles
supposedly "supply chain issues", you be the judge of how much of a red flag that is
in general they use high quality leather from respected tanneries for the uppers, the construction is good and the boot should last for years and is resolable
as a minor negative is that they use some mystery rubber outsole, that is cheaper to produce than using name brand soles like vibram or dainite
compared to trickers, parkhurst boots are really plain, trickers uses more elaborate patterns (if that matters to you), trickers is made in the UK and has fancy royals warrants to back it up (if that matters), the leathers are more formal, parkhurst uses generally more rugged wearing leathers, trickers uses name brand outsoles

thats kinda wrong because parkhurst has a better LOOKING last and now uses leather heel counters. theyre pretty much the same quality
both use mystery meat outsoles now but i cant imagine the parkhurst outsoles are worse than grant stones which are perfectly ok

the real issue is i think right now theyre overpriced
its basically $400 for a boot from them while the cheapest grant stones are $330. the seconds are also way too pricey when grant stone seconds can be had for thursday money
