I'm still trying to decide if I should go for a Tag Heuer watch or a Tudor BB54. Like I've said in the other thread, I really like the Tag's Carrera looks but Tudor will apparently retain its value more than Tag Heuer.

The problem is that if you buy a watch just for the it's renown, theres no guarantee it'll keep that fame overtime. It's quite speculative. From what I understand, it was the case for Tag Heuer cause it used to be a very well known and respected brand in the past.

So in the end the choice is, do you want a watch that YOU will love to look at or a watch that other people will love to look at for an unknown period of time.

That being said, Tudor's watch are nice looking too.

Pic unrelated ( I don't want to post the same watch over and over again.)

suggestions for a first serious watch buyer
> Your budget
undecided, not poorfag, not richfag either
> Watch type, e.g. dress, diver, pilot
dress, something appropriate for the office, not wearing a suit daily
> Movement, e.g. automatic, hand wound, quartz
automatic
> Desired features, e.g. water resistance, day/date, 2nd time zone
clean and simple look is preferred, so perhaps fewer features is better
> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet

Timex quartz do tick loudly. Their mechanicals dont. Why would Timex take a Miyota movement and tinker with it to make it louder?
They just buy these 3rd party movements from the Nips and let the chinks assemble them.
There are no mentions of Timex mechanicals ticking louder.

Not as popular as they were 10 years ago but they're still pretty popular among normies. 48mm+ watches are mostly out, but 43mm+ still sell well.

Among """connoisseurs"""" they were never that popular (outside of a few models that were historically oversized). Also, those connoisseurs tend to have tiny wrists, so oversized watches were never in the cards for them.

Typical watch autist delusion. You don't wear them together so they DON'T complement anything. No one gives a shit about your collection, so the only thing people see or you use at once is one watch. There's no synergy by having two of the same.

I think it's moreso because Jody pretty much hit the limit of the type of content he tends to talk about. I wasn't surprised with the focus on Casio, Seiko, Citizen and Microbrands since most of their offerings are below $500. The only video of his I look forward to these days are lume wars, I love lumes hence why Seiko and Micros are the bane of my existence, but I can't even enjoy his Seiko or Microbrand videos either since they all go for the same gimmick:

>Inner AR Sapphire Crystal
>Titanium for models past $500, 316 L SS for <$500
><$500: Seiko NH35 for Divers, Seiko NH34A for GMT,
>If over >$500: Miyota 9015 for Divers, Miyota 9075 or Sellita 330 for GMTs
>Bracelet quality, which tends to be decided by preference

I'm relatively new to watches but yea, even I can't help be bored with Jody's content since he's already telling me stuff that's already displayed on the specs sheet. It's only going to get worse since microbrands like Zelos have already said that going forward, most of their releases are going to be NH35/NH34A due to its affordability. Jody feels like Fifth Gear while every other new watch reviewer feels like Top Gear since some of them employ entertaining skits to make it interesting.

But phone is what makes the entire argument pointless from both sides. If that's your argument there's literally no sense in wearing a watch at all. That's why I say if you're going to wear one it may as well have good functionality to justify it.

At any rate, industry professionals that literally travel across time zones for a living on a daily basis specifically requested wearable timepieces that could track 2 or 3 time zones at once, and they're far more experienced and trained and certainly more intelligent than you. So clearly there's some benefit and some demand for this product.

Who the fuck deals with random time zones enough for this to be an issue? I keep track of 2 time zones. My own, and one other country. I know it's +9 in winter, +8 in summer. I check the time, I add 8. It's not hard. Well, on an analog clock it's easier to subtract 3 or 4.

Most people have no reason to keep track of another time zone, I only do it because I watch TV shows from there. You might need to know roughly what time it is in another zone once or twice a YEAR otherwise, and I'm betting most of those times you forgot to set your GMT gimmick anyway.

As someone who works with people in various time zones it is useful but not incredibly so I'd say. I can always see availability in Europe or China for example through the calendar without a gmt watch. Most commonly I am speaking to people in Europe from the US so having a quick glance to see the time is useful to not end up sending them emails at 10 pm

>> No.17593087

>>17593053
Not only that but if you're traveling for work and you need to connect with people in different time zones and relay different stuff to them in real time based on what time it is in other time zones and you have to do paperwork recording relative time for different time zones it's so much easier when you can use your watch as a reference to help with that. Especially if you are using 24 hour time to record that info. Instead of doing that math over and fucking over again and remembering "wait was that in this time or that time" and double checking that bullshit you can just look at the fucking watch.

One Gshock or other full-time/World time digital shitter with some water resistance is fine for that. Hell people take F91Ws scuba diving, no reason to see why you couldn't do a normal swim with them.

So no you don't need a separate watch just for taking a dip in a pool or GMT.

Holy shit you know that gmt watches aren't the only watches that keep track of multiple timezones, right? Like a Gshock and lots of other shitters do world time. A shitty $15 F201W does dual time. And presumably if you're making a list of the bajillion watches you allegedly "need" some digital beater watch is already on that list. The GMT doesn't do anything extra.

>> No.17593103

>>17593089
The point is how many watches are justified. Id you're looking to tick a lot of boxes and cover a lot of bases most GMTs eliminate the need to have a bunch of watches - they're inadvertently diving watches, they track time in multiple contexts at once, and the reference on the rotating bezel still lets you time your eggs or whatever like divers do. So instead of a dress watch, a sports watch and a diver and a gmt you can get away with a dress, a sports and a GMT. Might even be able to get away with just a sports and a GMT since sports/field watches generally dress up fairly well.

Sticky people don't like Hublot because Hublot doesn't make watches that look like they were made in the 1960s.
Hublot knows it has no history, it was founded from the very start to look flashy so why the fuck not lean into it and make flashy, expensive watches for people who don't care about money?
They put out their first watch in 1980, a gold watch held together with exposed steel screws, on a rubber strap and charged a fortune for it.
