That guide is hilariously outdated. We should really make a new one. Half the watches on there arent even produced anymore. Seiko used to make good affordable watches but dont anymore. I just looked at the Seiko 5 line I wanted to recommend but they start at $300.

Look up orient. They share the same parent company with Seiko.

Curlgurl (the blonde) was a tripfag back in 2011 I think. She was actually one of the better posters here. Her real name is Lena. The girl on the left was somehow obsessed with her and posted pictures of Lena mogging her. The one I posted came directly from her.

There was also an Indian girl who posted here at the same time. She was solely responsible for raising Indian woman sex appeal. But then her nudes and some private porn leaked.

No thats a common misconception.
Both Seiko and Orient have the same parent company but they are completely independent from each other. It's like the swatch group in a sense. Omega and Tissot have nothing in common aside from sharing the same parent

I've seen some really shitty variance out of some goymatics, and regulating them yourself is a pain in the ass. I don't think it's a great movement, they're machine regulated, which is why ETA don't give actual +/- figures for them, because they're probably afraid of people sending them back.

I wouldn't deem +/-45 acceptable either, but it's not hard to take the back off and regulate it, and it's pretty rare to see one past +/-20 from the factory. If Seikos had shit variance, then sure, the goymatic is a better movement. You've probably got a higher chance of getting a lemon with a Seiko, but you can replace it 6 times for cheaper than a single goymatic 5 year service charge. If I needed better than +/-10SPD, I'd just use quartz.

A rep will always be way lighter given it'll be plated. A solid gold day date is heavy af. You could build yourself a 1:1 rep using a gold case and gen bracelet, then convert a 3135 to a 3155 or 52 or whatever the day date uses. Should be way less than 10k and be basically a gen depending on how you do it

Eh, not really. For working I use field watches with screw down crowns. Sapphire crystal should resist any scratches or chemicals or oil I'm working with, the screw down crown should keep that bullshit out of the inside of the watch, and I use a rubber or nylon strap that I don't care about getting dirty. Most of that stuff should wipe off of the watch itself relatively easy. You might get an occasional scratch on the case but probably nothing too serious.

Guess what watch brand I use for work watches.

Had AI generate this:

In the heart of Japan, where the mountains rise,
A watchmaker creates, with mastery and surprise,
A timepiece of beauty, with every detail refined,
Grand Seiko, a watch, that's truly one of a kind.

From the hands that move, with a precision rare,
To the dials that shimmer, with a subtle glare,
Each component is crafted, with care and skill,
To make a watch, that's a true work of thrill.

With movements that sing, with an elegant grace,
And cases that shine, with a polished face,
The Grand Seiko is a watch, that's built to last,
A symbol of Japan's craftsmanship, that's unsurpassed.

In every model, a story unfolds,
Of innovation, and design that never grows old,
From the Snowflake's texture, like the winter's chill,
To the Spring Drive's glide, like a stream's gentle thrill.

A Grand Seiko is a watch, that's made with pride,
A masterpiece of horology, that will never subside,
So wear it with honor, and let it shine,
A Grand Seiko, a watch, that's truly divine.

I got a quartz watch from goodwill and since the casing is roomy I thought I'd put in a wind-up mechanical movement from ebay. You can ask here. 98% of /wt/ people are mindless consooooomers though and don't actually know what the inside of a watch looks like.

I wouldn't use glue simply due to the continual off-gassing and its weak holding for shock resistance. That glue will continue to cure and off-gas corrosive shit to the brass and may fog up the dial. If everything involved is nearly disposable and you're experimenting go for it. But for a heavy automatic you really want some kind of mechanical hold to the case, usually eccentric screws or pan head screws holding it in place.

Best way to do it is to simply sell it and but the one on the right which is what you want. You're still going to come out of pocket a lot of money

The "i'd like to ruin this and make it into trash" method is to use sandpaper and dremel to remove material hoping its solid metal with enough material to remove. The expensive method would be to have someone with a mill remove material, but they charge $400 an hour with a 2-4 hour minimum for setup, milling, and finish work. it won't be cheap to have someone competent do it. So either destroy it and buy a new case, or just buy a new case.

Im kinda on the same boat with this one.
Unless you have extreme watch autists in your circle, or people in the know of how much a rollie costs nowadays and they know your average income, you have nothing to lose with buying a HQ rep. You would only be lying to yourself. But at that point, if all the other NPCs are (mildly intrigued), would you really care that you spent 1k vs 20k for a "real" one with box and papers?

If your social circle entails watch snobs that know what to look for, and you handing your watch over for them to inspect, you have other issues.

If the entire world had and carried your understanding of value for money instead of endless castes trying to flex and show off "wealth", we wouldnt have this convo.
Given to the human condition, that is exactly why "luxury" brands like Gucci, etc. exist.
For indebted, or somewhat-well-off poors to flex on other poors in their microcosm.
Same goes for the watch world.

I agree, divers and sport watches are for swaggy kids. Us, true gentleMEN, only wear the most exquisite dress watches. My pick of the bunch? Heh, glad you asked. The luxurious Daniel Wellington, featuring a polymer case and a true metalic caseback for that understated class. It has a refined but durable japanese-designed movement with the cutting edge "quartz" technology (you see the vibrations of a quartz crystal powers a jumping seconds complication). And it has a mineral crystal, much more shatter-proof than the relatively fragile sapphire you'd find in other watches around the same price.

The smaller new Casios from the Edifice line
Casios from the vintage line
Some reasonably sized citizen eco drive divers
Casios from the Lineage line
Some classic but still in production cheap Seiko (e.g. SUR315P1)
G-shocks squares, explain their differences + mention aliexpress SS/titanium mod kits
Good Aliexpress shitters (Pagani, San Martin, Baltany, Escapement Time, etc)
---Higher end:
Seiko Dolce
Casio Oceanus
Citizen Chronomaster and other HAQ
Skywalker X-33
Some Grand Seiko

(yes, I like quartz)

I have the cheapest chink "C3" lume, and I sit in a dark room for 4 hours before bed, and I can still read it at 5am.

I've had a datejust, second hand market is tanked in many countries.
Find a secondhand unofficial reseller that has a good overall reputation. That's really your best bet if you want one. Personally I prefer Omega and Alternative brands with zany faces today, you mean I'm not a charted accountant or hanging around a horse racing track all day.
