Had to pick two fragrances for a two weeks long trip. Decides to choose these two vetivers as it is still a cold spring here. They’re almost polar opposites of each other. Nicolai’s Vetiver is a creamy, floral and Hiram Green is an assertive, smoky-woody with a pleasant sharp citrus twist to it.

Post your SOTDs.

This is a pure cope from people who couldn't get laid in High School. I'll ask this again in case someone had a brilliant idea since last week, I'm looking for a cold weather daytime frag focused on frankincense, smoke and possibly also coniferous plants, without leather, vanilla, powder, rose or creaminess
I want to give the impression of a laid back and dependable person, though I understand a frag is going to contribute only slightly
frags I've considered or am considering are
>Arso by Profumum Roma
amazing as everything PR but too smokey for my taste
>LAVS by Filippo Sorcinelli
a but too balsamic/nose piercing, and there's something very bitter that I can't quite place and that makes something visceral in me go "no"
>Interlude Man by Amouage
the one I'm considering most strongly, thought I can't smell anything coniferous in here, I f a mano x between this and Enclave existed I'd have bought it already
>Encre Noire à l'extrême by Lalique
sounds like it might be what I'm looking for but I can't find anywhere to try it and I'd like something a fair bit less sour than the original EN, with less iso-e super and a lot less vetiver
>Encens Satin by Armani
very good and realistic, though a bit too soft and much too expensive, especially for a designer frag
>Avignon by CDG
not very realistic, not very smokey and too two-dimensional, with hardly any smoke or conifers
>Zagorsk by CDG
a tad too cold, lots of conifers and not that much frankincense
>Cardinal by Heely
superb catholic church photorealism, though not that much smoke and with sub-par performance compared to the price
>Tiger's Nest by Memo
too two-dimensional, basically only frankincense, and pricier than I'd like
>Ikon by Zirh
nicely funky, I like the ginger which contributes to the nose-piercing, balsamic smell of the incense, though I found it too sweet and not smokey enough

any and all inputs are appreciated

Ralph Lauten Polo, or simply Polo Green as everyone knows it nowadays, is a longstanding classic and was my first experience ever with a woody fragrance. It was also the first for my older brothers as well and that's the issue it faces in the modern fragrance world. It is a great combination of wood, pine and baby powder aromas. Not a hint of sweetness to be found here. It has a very harsh and somewhat offputting opening that is strongly alcoholic. You have to let this dry down to truly appreciate it. That lack of sweetness makes it very versatile. It really is an all weather and all occasion fragrance.

This was a groundbreaker in the 80s when it came along, upending a previous era that was dominated by Paco Rabanne, Old Spice and Brut. Unfortunately, it's not the 80s anymore and the decades since have not been kind to either this fragrance or the fashion line that also bears its name, which was once a groundbreaker as well but is now just fodder for satirical comedy. It has become just as dated as the other colognes whose popularity it once demolished and has ironically joined them as a brethren older person's cologne. The kind you associate with your father or grandfather.

Polo Green has long been surpassed IMHO by far superior and more modern woody fragrances. Bvlgari Wood Essence, Manciera Cedrat Boisee, Maison Margiela By The Fireplace, Issey Miyake Wood and Wood, and Givenchy Gentleman Boisée are just a few that immediately come to mind. Yes, those all have varying touches of sweetness that make them more suitable as unisex fragrances and are nowhere near as masculine as Polo Green. However, that also makes them much more appealing to more people and IMHO far more fun to wear if I'm being honest. Funny as it sounds, there's something a little stuffy and standoffish about Polo Green in today's world. It has ironically become the same standard it upended when it first came along.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT FRAGANCE I WEAR. MY ARMPITS WILL ALWAYS SMELL LIKE SHIT.

I'm so done with this shit. I shower every single fucking day, I use anti-bacterial soap and autistically scrub both of my armpits. I have tried every single deodorant even the so called "medicated" ones. I drink a lot of water and I NEVER eat some heavy food such as onions and spices, I rarely drink soda. I wash my clothes with both detergent and that lavender crap that gets it to smell nice, I dry it up in both machine and sunlight. I go to the gym and try to keep a good work-health balance. None of that matters, my armpits will always smell like I'm a homeless junkie and the smell will mog the most powerful fragance in my drawer. This has been a huge issue for many aspects of my life. Why even keep spending on fragances when I'll just keep smelling like trash

Musc ravageur

Also, I've been testing Frederic Malle frag this week. Here's my take, be merciful I'm real novice.

Musc ravageur - mostly smelled like sweet spices and vanilla with a dirty background. I don't think of myself as big on vanilla but this was a pleasant ride. The musky woody background balances out a sweetness that is a bit overbearing. Could spray it for a date or a night out, feels like an good crutch to charm someone.

Monsieur - quite impressed with this one, deep, smokey just a touch of tang to engulf a green patchouli. Serious but not boring, very male, drips self confidence.

French lover - my favourite so far. Cedar, and vetiver with some spices and incense, sharp gust of green aromatic bitterness from angeliqua and galbanum. Love the woody smokey accord, really impressed by the herbs combo which feels unique and yet simple. Serious and youthfull, tweed, black wool and a bunch of old books. Might get a bottle.

Vetiver extraordianire - top tang of citrus that makes place to some spices and a woody accord where reigns a clean and dry vetiver. Slight disappointment, too quiet and not lasting enough, somewhat reminescent of the overall feel of good natural soap bar. Won't buy a bottle of a frag that mostly disappear after a few hours.

i don't know Or Encens but based on the notes it's a rose + incense frag with no citrus at all

They have good fragrances, but Topkapi didn't impress me. I'd suggest Chypre Palatin, Invasion Barbare and L'Homme aux Gants. Chypre Palatin is among the best chypres out there, lasts long and smells really good. Invasion Barbare is an airy lavender and not much else to me, but it's very refreshing. L'Homme aux Gants is vanilla amber of a dna you might have smelled before (e.g. in Carlisle), a bit dirty even, not necessarily new but if you like that type of vanilla amber you could invest your money worse. Ambre Topkapi reminds me a lot of CK Eternity Eau de Parfum in the dry and it just wasn't mindblowing enough for its price point. It's way too safe for the house.
As for performance, Chypre Palatin is a beast on me, but Invasion Barbare isn't, despite many people saying otherwise. L'Homme aux Gants does good, Topkapi doesn't at all.

I have Santal 33, I love how it develops overtime into floral/ woody throughout the day.
Is there anything similar that develops through the day?

PRPH is a "good blind buy" (nothing is really a good blind buy) if you like lavender-rich soapy old-school fougeres.
Oud Malaki is a good blind buy if you like e.g. Jazz Club, or sweet tobacco fragrances in general. Specifically JC because they contain something that smells alike.
Grey Flannel is a good blind buy if it helps you get free shipping. I have never smelled it, though.

If anyone wants to expand their knowledge of fragrances, I definitely recommend getting decants from My Fragrance Samples. They always give some free samples with the orders and I'm pretty sure they're the only decant site that does this. I thought they were just going to give me random cheap stuff, but every order I've had has had stuff that matches what I've ordered (another woody if I ordered a woody, another Chypre if I ordered a Chypre, another Xerjoff if I ordered Xerjoff, etc.). Fougère Gothique might fit the bill. Smells like forest undergrowth and mushrooms with aromatics and dries down into wood and incense. How long the mushroom note hangs around seems different from person to person. I got a sample and didn't smell it at all then tried it the next day and it's almost like the fragrance actively tried to make up for it. Lasts eternally and projects deep into the aether.

He legitimately made an aromatic fougere and added nasty shit to it for fixative reasons just for the kick out of it but ultimately won the competition, was told days later because he submitted and thought nobody sane would like to wear it so he forgot about it.

Goes in contrast with GIT as he thought it would easily win a competition but lost hard and after coping he was approached by Pimp Creed and offered him a well-tailored italian suit for the formuoli, along with royalties that never came.
After getting shafted he perfected the scent profile and submitted it to Davidoff who wanted something similar, he tweaked spme ingredients for it to be more affordable (100 dollar bottle equivalent nowadays rather than the cheapie 20) and threw GIT into the niche bin only for it to be rediscovered in the mainstream when CW got reformulated to death in the mid-00's.
