fellow poorfags NEVER buy a watch with the PT5000.
I have a San Martin and the experience is atrocious. It runs fine and precisely until it just breaks. Fist time the date set lever in the keyless works snapped.
Opening the watch it seems ok but with the loupe one can notice the movement is very dirt: fibers and specs everywhere. The winding always felt very coarse and really it's due to the amount of filth in there.
Second time after some months the third wheel's pivot snapped. The wheel also misses a tooth and the arbor came off.
Basically it's made out of chinesium and it's collapsing.
The watch never fell or has been mistreated.
If you buy a cheap shitter just buy one with a Miyota or a NH35A or an Orient, they are ugly and coarse but at least they will last decades without servicing.
The PT5000 doesn't look cheap and it's very well machined, but the steel used is utter shit and it's probably assembled in a dildo factory or some other shit sold on Wish

Guys serious question:
Why do people buy watches in the $100-$700 range? Everything a cheap Seiko does a Casio can do just as good.
They literally have dive watches, dress watches even a daydate clone. They just released a royal oak clone which looks really good and Im not talking about the gshocks. I see no reason to pay 500 bucks for a shitty Seiko for a shitty mechanical just so you can say you own mechanical watches. I mean picrel costs $50.
Watches get interesting in the low $1000 region. Even shitter movements like 2824 are +-2sec if regulated by a good watch maker.
Truly puzzles me.

Serious answer: because saving up for something is boring.

And it's not the 100-700 range, it's really anything less than about 5000-6000.

There's the watch you really want, so you start saving, waiting, waiting, waiting, while everyone else is getting updoots for posting their latest microshitter wrist-roll.
It takes months, if not years, and as soon as you're ready to buy, Rolex (let's be honest, it was always Rolex) raises their MSRP and whatever shitcoin you were investing in tanks due to a new meme.
On the other hand, if you buy a microshitter, you get that sweet consoomer dopamine rush every time. You can post wristshots and even collection shots and tell yourself that you're still saving, even if you aren't.

I think for most people it's about what you're getting for the price. If a company is charging a lot for a watch with an in house movement it's easier to understand because it's expensive to develop your own movement and you're getting kind of a unique piece nobody else is making, and that's kind of fun and exclusive and cool. If they're charging a lot for a watch with an off the shelf seiko or miyota or sellita movement it's harder to justify.

I think whether I want an in house or not depends on the movement itself. Some in house movements are great but others are pretty mediocre. On the other hand there are 3rd party movements that go beyond what some companies can do in house that are really great like the UWD movement Sinn uses in their 6200 model. I would agree though that sometimes it's nice to have a common movement like an ETA or Sellita for easy of servicing and the fact that you know exactly what you're getting as opposed to taking a chance on an in house movement that hasn't yet been run through it's paces.

This. My AD had one in stock and I tried it out. It is a very small watch, and not in a "vintage watches were all small" way. This feels smaller than my Dad's 37mm Seamaster 120 from the 1970s.

It does not feel like a vintage watch, it's still heavy. It still has the Tudor slab-sided case. It has all the chunky feel of the larger Black Bays.

I get why Tudor made it. More sizes means it's accessible to more buyers, especially that more women are getting into watches beyond "put diamonds on it." Personally, I think the 58 is the sweet spot size for an average man's wrist.

The 44mm extremes of the 2000s are thankfully fading away, but dive watches were always big, they're meant to be big. The first Fifty Fathoms was 42mm. Skin divers were never actually divers. They were watches with some waterproofing that LOOKED like real dive watches. When dive watches were required tools for divers, none of them used a "skin diver".

The real reason that watches are getting smaller again is that dress/casual watches are coming back around. Like that Longines in your post. That would look absurd at 40mm.

I like the 14060M best of all three. It's the most classic Submariner, the right mix of modern and vintage. I hate the ceramic Sub. It's just a piece of jewelry. The GMT-Master II...if you like it, that's fine, but it's not my taste.

I do love the 14060m, but the strap bothers me. It's a bit too tight on me and too big if I remove a cuff link. I've grown to like the new subs as I see them in person. The proportions look good provided you have a larger wrist size. For the gmt, the complication is nice and the new one's look too different from the 5 digit. The new sub at least has most of the old dna.

>> No.17580866

Anon you can't just shake a watch. You should send it in for service. Odds are very good you rattled something in the movement out of position and as the watch runs it will probably cause more and more damage to the movement over time until it eventually breaks and you need to replace the whole thing.
