/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - GAUCHO MOOSE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Reposting to get more reccs; currently have looked at Parkhurst Allen (they don't seem to make them in my size any more) and Red Wing Blacksmith (might be bulkier than I want but I can try them on in person). Both are good options but just gathering 'pinnies (opinons).

I found a great pair of low boots made by aldo about a year ago in a thrift store. They're really great replacements for dress shoes (which I have never liked the look or feel of) at mildly-dressy occasions but are a little on the beater side. I'll probably get them looking nicer with some oil and polish, but they were not in the greatest structural shape when I got them and I doubt fast-fashion boots are properly cobbler-able.

Where can I get some nice-quality boots that are as close to these as possible?

Big points to hit are round toe (non-cap, non-moc), relatively narrow/slim at the ankles (a lot of boots, especially in my size 12, get stupidly wide at the ankle; I like the look of these), similar height/proportion, and similar sole (thin, not a lot of overlap, don't quite know how to describe it). Preferred budget around $300, but I'm flexible since these will basically be my go-to "nice shoes". Totally fine with dress boots as long as they're not suede or otherwise need to be babied.

C&J does whisky shell on RTW and basically everyone has it available (carmina, bonafe, eg etc) Not rare at all.
Ravello is alden exclusive as far as im aware, but colors vary on batches and something like Bourbon or Amaretto are very close to Ravello.
I don't really consider different shades of brown like Ravello 'rare'
If you want rare colors, talking to Lorenzo/EB is the way to go, you'll probably can get everything if you pay up.

Mink oil darkens the color. Depending on the leather, could be just a few tones or a whole bunch. No way to tell how much before applying it, but usually it tends to darken a lot. With time and use the boots will lighten up again but they'll never quite fully regain the original color, that is, they'll always be darker than the original if you use mink oil on them.
If you still wanna use mink oil on your boots, use a tiny bit, about a finger tip per boot, and spread it thoroughly.
Bear in mind that the leather of Irin Ranger is rich in oils and don't need much conditioning, unless you wear them regularly in rain, snow, salt, etc.

Fabula bespoke shoes is what the bloke trades under, he's in Hungary. Lifetime warranty and he'll fix it up for ya if anything fucks out. Good fella as well, would recommend, but I guess chances are quite slim that you'd be anywhere near there.

These have a Svig sole on them, I absolutely love them, the boots look somewhat fancy but I've gone on long walks in them as well and it's almost as good as a pair of fucking hiking boots. A lot heavier of course but whatever.

At first I wasn't super happy with the colour but they've grown on me and I absolutely love them, I disn't think they'd go with denim but they look great.

The top 3 eyelets for the laces were little hooks originally which I didn't like.
They were slightly offset towards the middle which in return made it impossible for me to lace it up as tight as I wanted to, because the sides (now I know that's called the facing I guess) were touching before they were as tight as I wanted them to be.
So I asked him to swap it for little ringlets, shifting the point where the laces actually pull further around the ankle, so I could lace them up a bit tighter.
The sizing is perfect don't get me wrong, I just like my boots snug as a bug and also like the look of the ringlets better. (also a pair of thick wool socks go just as well, but this way I can wear it with both thick socks and just any old thin shit as well)
And fuck me dead, I'm spending 450 EUR on a pair of boots, I wanted them as perfect as they fucking come.

I've had 2 pairs of Viberg
1 CXL, absolutely flawless in terms of QC and clicking. Obviously CXL isn't the nicest leather but great for a SB. Fit is alright but the boot is just heavy and very uncomfortable. Its not the dainite soles because my Tricker's for example have dainite too and are more comfortable. I sold that boot and got a SB from Midas instead, much better than the Viberg at like 2/3 the price or less.
The other one was calf from CFS, horrible creasing out of the box, something i would expect on a thursday in pull-up cowhide. Refunded immediately and never bothered to exchange.
Compared to your usual RTW Tricker's and C&J they use a worse construction method, imo worse lasts and shit value.
Trickersoutlet for example is a total no brainer compared to Viberg.
C&J Handgrade absolutely BTFOs Viberg.

This is my second pair of Truman's. The other is java waxed flesh commando sole. This sole is basic flat rubber but it's surprisingly not as slippery as I thought it would be. Very grippy. Another thing is my original Truman's had sort of a pronounced arch bump in the left boot only. It's the same deal with this new pair so maybe my foot is just weird. It doesn't hurt but it's noticable.

I recently got a watch strap made to order from Guarded Goods. I was shocked they had so many shell options. I think the rarity thing is a racket. I chose Ultraviolet shell because I'd never even heard of it. Looks a bit like Color #8, but much more purple. It reminds me of red wine.

Those things look insane lol. They make CN wide lasts with like width D to E, so if Standard and Strange ever restocks the CN Wide Engineers I'm absolutely getting a pair. I have a pair of Mister Lous which are well made boots, but I'm not the biggest fan of the last. The Clinch engineers just look perfect and the combination of the toe shape and the horsehide looks like it can create some crazy rolling patterns.

Anyone know what the Japanese size(CM) refers to? I would have guessed it was the insole of the boots but it doesn't seem to be affected by whether the particular boot have a elongated toebox or not.

For example at tricker's a size 9 are for feet that are 27,1cm and it is a Japanese size 28.

Well Crockett also says it is TTS. My feet are 268-270 which according to them would mean I should take 9 or 9,5 UK but that would either be the same as my sneaker size or even half a size bigger. I decided to disregard C&J own advice and take a size 8,5 instead, which according to them is for feet that are 26,4cm and they fit great. Tricker's chart seems to imply I should take a size 9 too which seems off.

There definitely seems to be something off about the sizes based of off feet length. Which is why I kinda wanted to figure out the Japanese sizing.

Please help a retard out.

I have manlet feet, and I can't tell how to properly size.

Wearing a UK 6.5 my foot ends up pic rel. I can't decide whether that means I need to wear a 6 wide or if there's supposed to be that space by the bigger toes.

Used a brannock, by length it says US 7 but when I try that with anything that isn't a sneaker the heel is too tight but the toes are good.

So go by the 6.5 or the 7?

I mean I went to a store and tried a 7, 7.5, and 8 and they all "fit", it's just that I wish I knew which one is supposed to be the right one.

An 8 feels like the right width, a 7 feels like the right length, and a 7.5 feels kinda like the right choice but when I got the 7.5 it was pick rel.

So can I assume a 7.5 is correct and the last of the shoe I have in that size is the issue?

I don't have Carmina's version but I have the normal Ridgeway and it's probably the best sole.

Compared to Carmina's or Alden's half lug it's a little harder, a little less grippy and a little more squeaky on marble. But only a tiny bit, it's nothing like Dainite which is hard, slippery and squeaky.

Also Carmina's half lug has way more tread than Alden's version. Alden's half lug is so short at the front of the shoe it almost looks like it's worn out and ready for a resole out of the box. There's like milimeters of tread at the front.

Currently considering Carmina MTO derbies in tan vegano, but I can't quite put my finger on the color. Sometimes it looks more reddish, sometimes it also looks mustard-y (especially on the customization editor), the latter I'd like to avoid if possible. Even considering the pompei finish because of that, but I know that will be TOO much of a red hue.
Will vegano darken/change color over time? I know that stuff such as mink oil can darken the leather quite a bit, but I'd still want to wear them out of the box if possible.

Okay guys, can someone explain to a noob why Viberg sucks?

They don't. They're generally considered to be the most well made of all North American boots.

>> No.17583188

>>17582931
massively overpriced

They look good, they're well made and a little expensive but that's normal these days

But the last is a little weird and they are very heavy. Not very comfy at all.

Yeah those are nice too. Never had a pair of service/country boots before, are they usable during the spring/summer months? Given i don't live in a particular hot place, northern Europe.

In my country once it's t-shirt time the boots go back in their boxes
That's about this time of year until mid October

tricker's durham in tan olivvia leather, its tanned in olive leaves and indeed smells like olives. Its super soft, i think i like it.

not much else to say, they were like 250 pounds during the sale at the outlet. stupidly good value as usual with tricker's.

What’s the absolute peak of boots in terms of versatility?

>sturdy veldtschoen construction, can be worn everywhere

People say that the dainite soles are rock hard and uncomfortable. Is this really true?

>> No.17583613

>>17583600
They're really hard, yeah. But I don't think the outsole is one of the main reasons why a pair of boots are uncomfortable.

>> No.17583618

>>17583613
What else would be a factor adding to how uncomfortable vibergs are? Is it the shape of the toe? I’m torn between getting a pair of 310s or a pair of Lofgren Ludlow boots

Compared to vibram, dainite is absolute shit. It IS rock hard and has terrible traction. The difference in comfort compared to a vibram is night and day

I have boots with Ridgeway
I also have two pairs with Dainite and one pair with Carmina's clone of Dainite

Ridgeway is much more comfortable than any Dainite version even though it does feel hard.
Carmina's clone of Dainite and AE shoes with Dainite feel basically the same between them.
Vibergs with Dainite feel terrible.

The Vibergs are very heavy, the leather is really thick and the sole itself is heavy. Do they use a metal shank? Maybe just a thick midsole, idk
I think heavy boot + dainite is a bad combo
