They are like a slightly worse version of the corresponding casio. The build quality is slightly worse, they easily get scratched, and there is some dodgy milling work (especially on the back of the case).

The only really serious issue I've had is that the strap it came with was slightly bent during shipping (it came with it on for some reason). It keeps the time as normal and does what it's supposed to.

depends on which models you’re talking about but in general the bulk of the parts are sourced from China and assembled in South East Asia.

there’s a few lines that are assembled in Japan but even those will be mostly of Chinese produced parts. Grand Seiko is obv a different story.

Any reccs for a really cheap but nice looking office watch? I'm indifferent about the brand, it'll probably get some scrapes from my desk or doorways.

> Your budget
$100 max
> Watch type, e.g. dress, diver, pilot
Analog preferred
> Movement, e.g. automatic, hand wound, quartz
Quartz or automatic
> Desired features, e.g. water resistance, day/date, 2nd time zone
Nothing but the time would be nice, but a date window isn't a deal breaker
> Preferred strap option, e.g. leather, nylon, bracelet
Doesn't matter too much, I'd just change it if I don't like it.
> Wrist size or desired watch size
Under 40mm would be best.

The really nice watches are automatic/mechanical, meaning they don't take batteries and are powered by a spring being wound either by manually winding or by a weighted rotor swinging around on the inside of the watch while you're wearing it. That spring physically turns a bunch of gears that do all of the operations of the watch, and machining and assembling all of the ludicrously small pieces and making sure they all coordinate to keep precise time is very difficult and expensive.

Cheaper quartz watches(that use batteries and electronics) are available and overall keep time better and more easily, but traditional clockwork is still desirable for some practical and sentimental purposes. They can last a long time, be passed down as heirlooms, and you'll never have to fuck with changing a battery when you pull it out to wear to a wedding after it sat in the drawer for an extended period of time.

Regarding your statement, while it's true that automatic watches may require periodic servicing every 5-10 years, the cost of servicing can vary depending on the brand and model. Some automatic watches may require more frequent servicing, while others may require less. On the other hand, battery-powered watches, such as quartz watches, generally do not require servicing as frequently, but they may not have the same level of mechanical complexity and craftsmanship as automatic watches.

Both automatic and battery-powered watches have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice between them depends on personal preferences, style, and budget. Some watch enthusiasts appreciate the craftsmanship and mechanical intricacy of automatic watches, while others prefer the convenience and accuracy of quartz watches. Ultimately, it's important to choose a watch that fits your lifestyle and preferences.

How doesn't the general watch community see that everything about this new version is wrong? I've been hearing mostly that the case is too sharp and uncomfortable to wear, as well as the bracelet, which are both KO criteria for the lasting appeal of a fucking tool watch. But leaving that aside because it might be lanklet bitches with paper skin.

The watch design is fucking garbage. They FURTHER reduced the BPH of a movement that was already down from the usual 8, to 6, now to 4 - fucking why? A co axial escapement that has no business being part of a manual wound moonwatch (homage)? Good fucking idea there, way to break the immersion. Next, they removed the magnetic shielding plate over the movement (because the new movement is less susceptible to magnetism) - granted, but the fucking thing supposedly going into space would REQUIRE that shield even with the new movement. So it's another deal breaker for a supposed true Moonwatch. Not that we are short of those. It has the dot over 90 - fine, who fucking cares, this is such a minor ever changing detail that it's impossible to say this or that version is correct, it's unnoticed by most people anyway.

But what really sets me off is the fucking ugly minute markers on the dial, which were reduced to represent the slower beats. Look at that fucking shit. This is borderline a Quartz watch at this point. It also looks shitty and cheap compared to the previous model with double the amount of markers. Next the stepped dial is fucking ugly. I don't care if the original one had a stepped dial, it was a design flaw at the time. A stepped dial breaks the markers which is a big fucking no no for a Chronograph. Also they made the dial pure black instead of dark charcoal which is another reason it looks less special. Any asswipe can make a black watch. The previous Moon was special. This is like a fucking Chinese replica!

I'm keeping my 311 forever. THAT will become valuable (and the 3570).

Sure.

For an end user, you can get a sapphire crystal in any dimensions you'd want for about 15 bucks shipped to your door. For a case, you're looking at about 30, and that's with sapphire because they don't really sell them without all the parts.

Now imagine how much it must cost a company to purchase these things in bulk, or manufacture them in-house.

Citizen & Casio > Seiko
Seiko is trying to position themselves as a high value brand which just doesn't work.
Last year while in Japan I had the chance to look at the Casio Oceanus. Those things are comparable to Grand Seiko quartz. The fact that they still produce $600 watches with hardlex shows how retarded people who buy Seikos are.

>What am I missing here? She'll refuse you if you "only" spend $200
I'll explain it again slowly for the fucking brainlets. I'll even redditspace it since that's apparently easier for you people.

An expensive gift is not special because of the money. It is expensive because of the relative commitment someone had to make to do it for you. If someone was willing to do a lot of work and spend a lot of time getting something for you when they didn't need to do that and they were probably thinking of you while doing those things, that means a lot. You didn't make them do it, they weren't obligated to do it, but they did it anyway because they wanted to.

A child saving up $200 to buy a gift for another child is, relatively, a huge undertaking. That was the precise stated reason for why a quartz mall watch is so special to that other poster. Yeah, NOW it's not worth a lot, but at the time it was huge.

For me right now at this stage in my life $200 is absolutely nothing to spend on a gift. I make that in my sleep, my fiancé and I spend $200 at a restaurant without thinking twice about it. I probably spent that on the food and drink we're making for dinner tonight. I'm not saying it to brag, it's just $200 just isn't a lot of money for a gainfully employed adult, relatively speaking. It's not that special for a gift. If I did buy her a $200 ring she'd probably wish I just took her to dinner. But $20k is a completely different matter altogether.

Furthermore, I already said this but you still don't seem to get it, your retarded jaded billionaire analogy actually makes my point. A strange billionaire giving you $20k just because he can would be weird more than anything else. Yeah, you'd obviously be happy because you got $20k, but you wouldn't feel anything for him, would you? If you felt anything it would probably be something along the lines of scared of what the repercussions of accepting that money would be, because there's probably some kind of a catch.

To most people, sure, but to people that frequently travel and/or often have to contact people in other time zones they can be really useful. I honestly wish there were more options for affordable daily watches with GMT movements but without the rotating bezel, because then your daily beater could be just a simple field watch looking thing and still be your daily beater if you need to get on a plane or randomly need to make a phone call to someone on the opposite side of the earth at certain times for some reason. Actually, there's a website I've been watching that's based in the UK that only does sales at specific times on specific Sundays, I guess to try to keep hype and scarcity high, but being in America it's kind of hard to remember what time it is there
>JUST ADD 5 RETARD
It would be that much easier if I just didn't have to think about it after looking up the time zone one time. Also my work happens to use 24 hour time for everything so when I'm not tracking another time zone it can still be useful to just at a glance see my own current 24 hour time.

Pretty often, honestly. Plenty of people have that need from time to time, especially business and sales people. Yeah, rubes on welfare that have never traveled beyond county lines since they were born and can't point to any other country on a map probably don't need it, and you could argue that's most people, but still. Nah, the fakers at least accept what they are and are honest about it. Most of them would probably even tell you it's fake if you tried to confront them about it and not give a fuck, they'd just continue swimming in the public pool in a t-shirt. The rolexfags in here just drone on and on about how much money they have in their investment accounts and how they COULD buy something more expensive and obscure but they just stick with rolexes because it cuts less into their investments and other people recognize rolex and knows how great they are because they have a rolex. It's so vulgar and cringey.

I'm really curious about the abalone dial monsters. I like the idea of a pearlescent dial and every one being unique, I guess you have to hope you get lucky and get a cool pattern? Plus my girlfriend's family is Chinese and when we go to celebrate Chinese New Year and other Chinese holidays with them her mom always cooks abalone like 3 different ways for lunch and dinner over the course of a few days, so I think that's a fun parallel to wear an abalone dive watch while eating abalone.

Scammers, they recommended me a 16 x 44mm watch and said it would fit my 16cm wrist just fine. I was a bit sceptical so i specifically asked if the watch would slide under the cuff easily and they said yes. All lies! The watch is way too big and i can't wear shirts over it at all.

Reality is loads of Rolex clones are pretty decent, and yeah if you hold two identical ones against each other you can tell the difference, but who the fuck does that? Like they also have to be fucking identical identical, since shit changes with different colors or different years so just because something's different doesn't mean it's fake.

That said, don't try this if you're some poorfag, because then people will think it's fake even if it isn't

While it was a thoughtful gift it's not really my cup of tea. Nothing against Omega, I just like different brands more.
So I took the watch to the boutique and got the money back.
I bought myself a nice Islander watch instead. Now my girlfriend is really mad at me.
