/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - FLAT BOX EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

One thing is for sure, I have no doubt the construction quality is superior to Alden's.
And Carmina suede is also better quality.

Yea its definitely quite wide.
UK10 TTS and i took UK9.5 in detroit normal width.
277mm 111mm are my measurements with socks on.
Works well with medium and light socks, hiking socks are too thick and i would have to go either UK10 or EEE for that.

The idea was a U-TIP similar to an indy on plaza.

Also got some used black Alden Trubalance Jumpers in very crease prone kid (goat) leather.

It's normal for dressier boots to have facings that almost touch.

Viberg's service boot has facings that are way too open (I think it looks good) so for the Halkett they went full retard and made them too tight.

>> No.17560060

Been thinking about getting a pair of high end boots for a while now. I think I've narrowed it down to C&J Indiana, Alden Indy, and Viberg service boot 2030.
>inb4 why are you going full retard expensive for your first ever boots?
The way I see it, paying even 100 USD for a pair of shoes/boots is highly dishonourable behaviour so going for a midrange priced boot like red wings or whatever would already feel highly wasteful so might as well go for the top immediately and buy once cry once.

Which one do you think I should go with? Really not looking to start collecting boots(one pair should be enough with possibly one more in the future so I can rotate) so want a good and rugged everyday boot. C&J might be the highest quality and it sure is sexy but not so sure about the ruggedness of suede. Both Viberg and Indy looks really good i think with some wear on them.

I don't know what the Indiana looks like but I have both a suede Indy and a brown CXL Viberg

Indy is lighter, more comfy and way more versatile.
Viberg is very heavy (the sole part is heavier than any other boot I own), the last is narrow, but it is definitely a higher quality build

I got the Vibergs on sale for like 680€ and their quality of build is good for the price, I'd say probably better than the likes of Carmina. Indy is def worse.

If you are American and you want your first boot I would tell you to buy Grant Stone for $350 instead of going all in. In the UK you can get Trickers very cheaply on sale from retailers. In Europe I don't think going for less than Carmina is really worth it (TLB is better at the same price but TLB is shit at making boots)

Thanks for response, much food for thought. I'm a europoor. Yeah I've heard Viberg is higher quality but like you said Indy is supposed to be really /comfy/, and they look nice. Which site did you find the Vibergs on sale? I'll check out the other brands you mentioned.

Haven't seen much about the Indiana on the internet either but one guy posted them in one of these threads and I thought they looked great. Hopefully he won't mind me reposting the pic.

With the likes of Carmina your best bet is a free MTO weekend, they have sales occasionally but very few sizes etc

I think Carmina's free MTO weekend is supposed to be in April? Happens twice a year
But I would not get an MTO as your first boot, cannot be returned or refunded.

In my opinion you should go to Carmina and find a boot in the Soller last and buy it.
You can always return it if it doesn't fit and both these lasts are ok for wide feet.

Closest thing I can think of off the top of my head is the TCX Fuel.

The fact you mentioned "quality" makes me think you already know this, but the rally is a 'moto boot' only in that it has a shift pad and motorcycle branding. No ankle protectors, no twist protection, no shin protection. Any leather boot is going to be >>> than a sneaker or w/e but something like the Fuel will be way more protective in a crash

I think these Nike sfb 2s look awesome. Problem is I'm not a fan of Nike or the Nike logo in general. Any knockoffs that are debranded? Any similar light sneaker boots?

I'm digging the way the shoelaces look like they're attached to mole straps and the fact that the boot looks more like a fusion with a sneaker. So yeah more for looks and something even with a thin sole would be cool, I like my altama boots for schlepping and hiking so these would be more for fashion.

So far these look cool but idk about the styling maybe I can add my own mole banding up the boot. Also not a fan of the cost.

You sure you're not thinking about US sizes now? I don't know much about handmade and goodyear boots but I know you're at least supposed to take smaller sizes than your normal 20USD sneakers, which is 43EU for me. But 9,5UK would be even bigger than that.

If I input my foot length on White's homepage for the MP boot they recommend a 8,5US. Which is kind of the reason why I thought maybe I should even go for 8UK.

Which C&J boots do you own?

>> No.17565175

If you measured ~268mm you are spot on UK9 assuming the last is TTS. But you still want to account for socks and extra space you might want in the toebox so UK9.5 can be valid too. Just email them with your measurements and see what they say.
