almost all have mechanical movements
most are Asian clones of ETA or Valjoux - many people recommend against buying rep chronographs because the Asian clone 7750 is a time bomb movement.

It’s pretty common to see “super reps” of watches with in-house movements where the whole movement is replicated. The most famous example is the Rolex Daytona. There are two factories that produce super-clones for ~$800

There’s a Portofino chrono that’s famous for actually using a Swiss ETA movement - costs about $250 more than the same rep with an Asian clone.

Most people you interact with on a daily basis have an idea of how much money you have/make. On rare occasion people working in blue collar jobs some way or another come into a lot of money but stick with their blue collar job for the pension or because they are happy with their job or whatever. But generally non-rich people spend all day with other non-rich people who are going to know.

I mean, if you are a rich guy wearing reproductions other rich people probably will assume it's real. I find poor people kind of expect nice watches to be fake. But they probably won't say anything even if they do, because why bring it up?

a chronometer is a type of watch, not a complication, if you meant chronograph then...

if you mean how long can they time for then usually 12 hours or 24 hours

if you mean how long they stay accurate for then unless it's a chronometer as well then it won't be very accurate ever

buy a digital Casio and the answer to your question will be 7-10 years depending on battery life, pic related

Did you know the American watch industry used to be even bigger than the Swiss watch industry? Back in the 1800s the USA produced more pocket watches than any country in the world. When wrist watches started to become popular in the early 1900s, the Swiss even made fake American watches. These watches are known as the "Swiss Fakes" and are highly collectable and sought after today.

During the first and second world wars the American government ordered the American watch companies to stop making wrist watches and start making military equipment. The Swiss on the other hand were neutral in both wars and sold watches to both sides of the war.

The American watch industry never really recovered post-war and was once again overtaken by the Swiss and later the Japanese.

I did buy an uncle seiko bracelet though, the Z199. That's what I'm waiting for, I've fitted the bracelet that came with these end lugs and it's nice enough, but it's too heavy, thick, and the milled clasp is junk. The end lugs on the Z199 aren't quite to my style anyway, I don't like how it doesn't carry the beads into the case with the little grooves. My current Seiko watch carries on the beads, and it uses the original Z199's cheaper folded link cousin.

Can I get some advice on straps?

Have a Seiko alpinist that I love (the SPB119) which came on a black leather band with deployment clasp. I'm not a massive fan of the clasp as I would rather adjust easier as necessary.

Thinking of picking up some black leather band options for this and some other watches, and want a reliable company to get a few from. Priority is decent wearing leather, not crazy expensive (50-70USD or so is fine) and available in shorter lengths (6.7in wrist) and quick release I guess if possible. Don't want gaudy logos on the buckles. So far I have heard good things about and am considering Colareb (Italian) and Fluco (German) does anyone have any experience with either?

Also, never worn a bracelet for some reason. Thinking of picking up a Uncle Seiko one for the Alpinist too just to give it a go, thoughts on the quality vs OEM parts I can source from Seiko? I don't like the rice beads look much, so president or jubilee for comfort and everyday?

>> No.17557171

>>17557167
Fluco is excellent and worth the price. What I would say though is don't buy a whole set of straps from one manufacturer because even within the same maker things can vary because some styles might not be as comfortable for you depending on the type of leather and design.

For the nobody that asked, my Uncle Seiko bracelet came so I put it on.

Okay, so it wasn't that easy. The SKX007 strap I ordered had end pieces that were way too big for my end links, and my watch in general. Maybe the SKX013 bracelet would've been better, but I don't know if they bulge out in the same way, and this one was cheaper. So after cutting off the last link and adding another adjustable link to compensate, it fits. Not perfect, I need some lug bars that are halfway between the thin ones the case came with and the fat bars the bracelet came with, but it's pretty close.

The bracelet itself is fantastic, everything I wanted from a bracelet. But the clasp is mediocre. I don't mind the trifold being shorter than usual even though it makes it a little tough to get off and on, but the clasp sucks. I might try and swap it out for an old Seiko SQ one I have lying around.
