the longer hair looked better in pictures which you only take when you have a good hair day, shorter hair is the other way around.

I think it either works or it doesn't and you won't know until you do it. I'd toyed with the idea before and I did it last year for a friends wedding as a laugh and everyone I met commented on it and told me I was looking great with it. I kept it for a few months, got rid of it, might be the kinda thing I do once or twice a year. My length wasn't very long, e.g. 3 weeks without shaving and I needed to trim after 2 weeks more.
