How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

you'll also never use it unless it's a dedicated sidezip boot. you think you will and it's this cool convenience but in reality you'll just tie the laces also it's small but the boot will flex different

Opinions please:
This last actually fits me. Rare.
Black vs "Whiskey" kudu. Which one?
I just feel that I don't have much use for black boots overall, but a black military style boot is pretty generic right? I have a pair of black RMW's that I can't wear because they pinch one foot's toes too much.

I already have a pair of the Copper goatskin boots though, and my other boots are all browns or col8. Too much brown and not enough black? Probably end up wearing the whiskey more with the sorts of things I wear though.

Well, it serms that ypu lean more towards the whiskey, while already owning a similar pair in a similar color. There's a good chance that if you get those you'll wear them, so it's a safe choice. I would ask myself if I really want a pair of black boots and if I'd wear them enough if I had them. Seems to me that you are considering the black pair because you currently don't own one and feel like you have a spot to fill. Do you really want black boots?

grain leathers can be a bit of a lottery with creasing
I've read it's because shoemakers normally pick specific parts of the leather to go on the vamp where the creasing happens, but the grain pattern makes it difficult for them to see the kind of things they need to see.

Of course this only applies when leather is clicked carefully, mass produced shoes where they just stack a bunch of leathers on top of each other and then a machine cuts the same pattern over the entire stack means what you get is always random anyway.

I have a feeling manufacturers put zippers on boots not because of convenience but to drive down the price. Zippers allow to construct the shoe out of smaller pieces of leather without making the boot look too unorthodox or have a glaring seam. To the normgroid eyes this zipper looks motivated. The smaller pieces not only cost less but it's also easier to get a hold of them as larger pieces of good quality are first used on good shoes that command price at least 2 times higher than that of zippered footwear. I think there's a conspiracy because cheap men's boots that go for less than 100 euros all have zippers these days. You can't explain this any other way.

Yeah, it takes time for the leather to mold to your foot, but once it does it is very comfortable. non-gusseted tongues are dumb on work/hiking/hunting boots, because if you're going to be wading through water or snow, or near sand, loose dirt or brush that could get inside the boot, it's almost certainly going to be in a pair of those.

I haven't used grailed (last time I checked was not available in my country) but I've heard it works pretty well, moreso for higher end stuff like your boots. Iron Rangers were hot shit a few years ago. Then they became popular on reddit (since it usually falls 2-3 years behind this site) and consequently they fell from grace here.
I guess it depends on where you live and how knowledgeable people are on boots. Red Wings are almost unknown in my country outside of a few niches and nobody ever has even noticed my IRs when I wear them. Got a couple compliments on my Beckman's, though.

It's really weird. It's like the combination of their 2 most popular heritage boots, neither of which use any synthetic materials, but then they fill the new one with synthetics so anyone who buys it will be upset with the quality. Idk what they were thinking, probably testing feedback to see if they should make other boots like that.

As a side note I don't like wedge soles on IRs, they look like they don't belong. Bur then again, I didn't like wedge soled moc toes and I've been considering getting a pair recently from having seen them everywhere.

How difficult, if at all, should the break in on the RM Williams Gardener boot be? Leather insole and hard rubber outsole.

Their sizing is weird. I’m a true US 9.5E Brannock size but that was too small in the store, and the 10E was too sloppy it felt like, so I settled on a 10D which felt nice but now it kind of feels hard under the outside of my left arch and my toes are a little squished together. I hear boots will shorten and widen as it creases at the ball so hopefully that will provide relief. Some other hot spots have gotten better so I’m hoping this too will resolve itself, otherwise I’ll have to sell these.

Anyone can tell me from experience or did I fuck up?

Hand dyed leather is aniline? Aniline is dyes and finishes applied to the top surface

>> No.17548018

>>17547994
"Crust" leather is hand-dyed during shoe manufacture, or it can be plain undyed leather. Aniline on the other hand is dyed in the tannery and uses mechanical processes, making the dye penetrate the leather considerably more than hand dying can.

Copped these absolutely gorgeous vintage Lucchese boots in oxblood from a thrift store in Wyoming. Got the sexiest patina on them and weathering from actual being worn by a cowboy. There are a few splits in the sole and I think it could do with some polishing. Any tips on how to deal with the sole situation? You can see some of the damage in the pic.
