/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - HORSEHIDE ROPERS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Anyone have experience with metal toe taps on leather soles?
I know the toes can get fucked up very quickly on leather soles so they help a lot, but don't they make you walk weird?

>> No.17518635

>>17518629
a proper cobbler would sand the tip down first before installing the taps flush with the sole. that being said it will change your gait a little as the tap will be extremely slippery on surfaces that are harder than the metal like marble and tile. a topy would be much more useful than a tape

I own a pair of Presidents which are my favorite boots, they smell awesome like fresh leather which is what I was expecting with these but these don't even smell like leather...I know they're genuine leather but whatever was done with the tanning process has made them smell terribly. I've seen other people post about this issue so I guess its not just me, also not sure if its the rugged and resilient leather becuase my Presidents are R&R leather and like I said they smell great. They were also too small so I'm exchanging them for a bigger size but really hoping the new ones dont smell like this.

I'm ordering an MTO pair of boots and the maker normally writes "Hand Made for Anon by xxx" on the insole.

It's cool, but it's also a little vain.

When my brother saw my shoes he thought they are made of wood too.

It's basically leather stacked on top of each other, then they sand it down to make it uniform and paint it over.

Anyway are you just looking for a chunky derby? Many brands have them. It won't be that well put together, but may look better.

These are all made in Spain (or Rortugal?) basically.

Are they worth it? Honestly if you're gonna spend 350€ on a shoe from a mystery Spanish factory, might as well spend the extra 50€ to get a TLB or Carmina instead.

Rounded black chelseas are mainly about the fit, the quality of materials and craftsmanship.
Those look good all around, especially after a few wears when they don't look as polished.

Now on the other hand, if you are a gay bottom and in search of a stallion, you might prefer a more flashy chelsea. A chiseled last, a lighter (suede) color etc. Then you might sacrifice the fit for a narrow, dressier look.

How and with what do I wear these French BMJA 52 to show their high look either it being too high? I'm after a high cut brown boot old military/ outdoorsman look but can't figure whether how I wear these looks good or not. I've figured cuffing jeans to the first buckle only looks good, cuffing up both buckles doesn't, but then I don't k ow if jeans cuffs are too loose or not. Any insight how to make high ankle boots look well?

Damn my guy got the OG french rangers that's insane. I had to settle for the current models, but they're cool I guess. I haven't figured out how to wear them to be honest. I don't want to tuck my trousers in, but I also don't want to cuff them either. So far I've figured out sitting down works.

Cavour has a -15% special on all sale items
Includes some really high end footwear like Stefano Bemer and Saint Crispins
Limited sizes all around

Their house brand stuff can be pretty cheap - like 250€ for goodyear welted boots after the sale, made in Spain.
Saint Crispins pricing is still absurd, but going from 1600€ down to like 900€ is not a bad deal if you're into that sort of thing.

There's a pair of black brogue oxfords from Stefano Bemer in my size that end up like 550€ after the sale - that's like Carmina prices for one of the best shoemakers in the world. But I honestly don't think I'd ever wear them.

I like Chelsea boots and definitely not a grill, you can't go wrong with the quality of Cheaney, but that last is not very appealing to me specially in black. I'd just buy rmw for black chelseas, if those were suede my opinion might be different. I'd say that if you bought them on sale and it's comfortable for you it's a pretty cool buy. Enjoy anon

L.L. Bean boot. It's good for what it's supposed to be and what it's supposed to be includes "comfortable" and excludes "disposable piece of garbage". I don't think that's true of any other boot under $200 in 2023. Maybe some of the better neoprene wader boots but they're so specialized that I wouldn't want to walk around in them.
