it is very powdery, but that shouldn't stop you. It's very unique, dated but if you want damps violet it's perfect, the powdery adds the soapy grandma vibe, and I honestly like it, smells clean and homely. If you want modern youtube panty dropper frags, not for you, if you are an enthusiast, a must I think. Really something you can't smell in modern frags in any store.
Sucks for the prices.

You're 100% on the right track. All classically trained perfumers are in on this. They don't "create" a fragrance upon request, they have probably created a lot of mediocre stuff already when doing creations for the expensive houses and they probably get commission based on sales. If it doesn't last or smells like a mess of accords instead of a good fragrance, they will just hand off the recipe to next cheapie house. This has been going on for a while. They even reformulate stuff that has been "beast mode" in the past, even when it isn't affected by regulations, just to secure more sales for the expensive stuff that actually lasts and projects. Only some in-house perfumers haven't fallen to this, but then again those with one have also started to release overly expensive "exclusive lines" and shit like that. The more I observe this, the more I think the masstige schizo was right and we can only get good stuff by supporting indie perfumers who just create.

i think a lot of reviewers who say shit is moderate duration are doing so because they really like the smell so they really want to like the fragrance so they just automatically give it a "moderate", which is a lie. moderate is like the "7" in a 1-10 scale. not exceptional but pretty good. you give something a 7 when you dont like it, but want to like it or are just being polite. no, a couple hours is not pretty good or acceptable. frags have to be barely noticable after 1 hr for people to actually complain, it is crazy.

i dont care about people who say they wear the fragrance "for themselves" , theyre delusional. you wear a fragrance so others can smell it on you, if it is unnnoticable after 2.5 hours into your work day unless your corworkers are licking your forearms, then what is the point of buying a fragrance at all?

>just spray more
dude, no. im not spraying my weakass banana republic frag , no matter how much i like it, 12+ times so i knock everyone out in the first hour of wear, and then all the top notes evaporate in the same amount of time anyways

Thought I would like this one but no. The opening is great, very astringent lemony, clears the sinuses. Drydown starts soapy but then turns to dark musk that smells something like a skin cream mixed with iodine. Like a wound from a recent surgery youre replacing the bandage for the first time.

Clubman/Canoe is also the scent of red Gillette foam. It's the most "classic" one, which is why many associate it with barbershops. Often copied by many other manufacturers it creates one of the oldest known "barbershop" accords, with Canoe being around since the 30s and Clubman allegedly being over 100 years older than even that. I have no doubt that many people will immediately associate them with a barbershop.
The other ones just depend on your barbershop. If your barber took a liking to the aquatic freshness of Cool Water, he would have used a similar shaving foam (there's also a Gillette) and aftershave (or just CW itself), or if he was into citric freshness, there's Hattric and similarly scented products, of which I consider Platinum Egoiste to be the best refinement.

Nagel stuff for girls is pretty nice, i liked her Eau de Rhubarbe very much along with the other Hermes bright colored bottles, some of the Narciso Rodriguez for Her are also good like Musc. Intense Vetiver is like a more acre and "casual" Grey Vetiver, personally i liked it more than Terre D' Hermes because that one smells very tame and not a lot much other than faded oranges, and that's saying something because i supposedly can smell Iso Super.

The company are a bunch of faggots for making like 3 of those but discontinuing the classic For Him and For Him Musc Oil bottles. IIRC it smelled like a classy blue frag with leanings towards trying to be La Nuit de l'Homme but that's it, costs a bit too much for what it is kinda like Pasha Noire which goes more aquatic. At least Bvlgari Aqva has the best calone in the mainstream which justifies it for people who want to smell like sea water with everything and the salty weed and fish poo.

The stuff is immensely strong and it doesn't have longevity so much as it has permanence. I've smelled it on clothes after they've come out of the laundry.

In terms of the scent itself. It's very, very sweet. The honey note is prominent and lasts through from top to bottom. The tobacco is much drier than I expected. Smells more like a cigar than moist pipe tobacco. There's also a jammy fruit note in it but it's in the background. It's honey and tobacco first and foremost.

It's a great fragrance, no doubt about it, but it's not easy to wear. Definitely not a safe blind buy.

I'm convinced 90% of Fragrantica are arabs and indians that douse themselves in fragrance like hormonal teenage boys with axe body spray. Layton is a vanilla overdose with some spices. Everybody loves vanilla. Current formulation of DN has a lot of apple in the top notes, which makes it smell a little like Boss Bottled. Last bottle I had still had really good performance, even though the smell of the top notes wasn't 1:1 Layton anymore. Drydown was still the same, unless they changed it around further. The reason why I think that they might have changed it further is due to another release by Al Haramain. "Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu" is another Layton clone from the same house and in theory it makes no sense to sell another clone. However, the Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu sells for a way higher price than Detour Noir does (for which I paid 14€ at the time). Schizo mode activated: They gimped the formulation of DN and want to replace it in the market by a more expensive clone, which then matches the original Layton again. That is despite the fact that Detour Noir currently sells for 33€, which I consider way overpriced knowing the original price. In any case, don't bother chasing Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu. Haven't seen it for sale in Germany or around Germany yet. If you want a very unisex and powerful sweet vanilla fragrances with some spices, get Detour Noir.
Zino is based and absolutely worth it.

The definitions are no-name/no-brand which in this case is wrong, then there's the umbrella TERM use to group things aka blue fragrance would be the (incorrect) generic way to call citrus-heavy, calone-using, semi-aromatic juices.
None apply unless you think "a generic profile" of fragrance, aka all blue frags smell the same which is also wrong you mouthbreather, and "good frags" usually fall into this same generic thing aka those frags recommended are clones aka generic scents already aka kill yourself faggot

Wich one tho, I literally have no experience on this matter. I'm 30 years old and probably had 2 or 3 perfumes my entire life. And not regularly, like 3 different bottles and that's all. Can't even remember them but I just know that I didn't really like them. And whenever I went to a perfume store to get one, I just left because I was tired of smelling all these similar smelling shit. Also I couldn't stop sneezing.

just get either fougere emeraude or rogue's champ lunaires, they are much better rounded and balanced fragrance. i don't discriminate any notes, but i can't believe anyone enjoys a straight up TUBEROSE, the smell literally stings my nose. (received a 7ml of carnal flower with my poal bottle)

champs lunaires has a clear and strong jasmine, but the other notes balance it out perfectly. i might consider a bottle later on.

it's my favourite fragrance as well as the one which I have received most positive comments on (together with Grand Soir). I have ~100ish fragrances, but PoAL is the only one bottle I managed to finish and buy a new bottle of. tried to look for better roses elsewhere for a good while, but PoAL together with Papillon's Tobacco Rose are the two outstanding roses for me, personally.

unfortunately not, I like Bisch's work so need to sample it! seems much more oriental/spicy based on the notes, though - what make PoAL so good for me is the raspberry

SOTN - incredibly good stuff. very powdery which I like. Notes say berries, tea - musk, sandalwood, vanilla - woody notes. I kind of get it, the musk is very light and powdery, berry flavored tea - not strongly fruity, sweetened by the vanilla.
Moderate to strong projection, longevity TBD but probably moderate.

I also tried Alexandria's "Santal Crush" today, a clone of Tom Ford Santal Blush, and it smells good, kind of feminine to me but the performance is astronomical. I used dish soap and a towel then later took a shower and scrubbed it thoroughly with a soapy cloth and it's still fucking there like its penetrated several layers of skin and now tattooed into me. I'm at its mercy, it will decide when it's ready to leave. Or perhaps my right wrist will smell of sweet floral sandalwood for the rest of my life.

>Still a fairly objective quality
It is if you say "a scent dated around the fougeres in vogue from 80's" because any dumbass who doesn't know what you and i know will say "smells like grandpa hurr no cap"
But then Lapidus is late 80's, and less fougerish already puts it away from that ballpark along with being more warm, it implies either more amber than oakmoss and/or that is uses more aromatics, which puts it closer to 90's fougeres or downright an aromatic frag.
Although i appreciate the review, made me think that even types of ambers can be placed on eras because very warm ambers akin to a concentrated hot honey tea aren't smelled often nowadays along with ozonic-tier oakmoss. Kenzo Intense commentary is spot-on, they are either a synthetic aperture mess or last nothing at all.

IFRA is for big corp, mostly euros, who applied into their group for mutual self-control, you can't violate something you have no part of nor did not want to. There's also some bootlickers in it which are mostly national associations looking to get a bone or two there, the only arab/roachy assoc. there is Turkey.

IFRA isn't the only reason western fragrances suffer in performance and realism, quality is lowered to cut costs and keep to a certain price point, wages have consistently failed to keep up with rising costs of living and most products have taken a hit on quality. Regulations are part of it but not the only cause.
A lot of the ingredients that aren't IFRA-compliant are non-compliant because they're unsustainable, endangered, etc. so even without regard for the rules they're going to cost a lot.

Fun fact the US does not enforce IFRA but you still can't use real ambergris legally because it's considered part of a protected species. It's basically poop that is found floating at sea or washed up on the shore and doesn't harm whales in any way to take it, but that's the interpretation of the law.
