/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - DOUBLE BOTTOM MOCS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

An anon a while ago said that tlb artista were some of the best dress shoes you could buy for the money. I'm wondering what makes them better than the basic line? They dont seem like too much more but there is different leather options and I dont really know what the difference is. So if I were to get the classic Turnout boot with the leather outsole (and leather insole) and have a cobbler install a rubber half sole, would I be making the right choice? Obviously it’s by personal choice and the value I perceive so it mag be a stupid question. I just like the way they look and their historic reputation, but it seems to me, the way you describe it, they’ve raised their prices and dropped their quality, which quite honestly sucks. Seems like this is happening everywhere for anything short of $1000 USD.

I wanted to get one of those PNW US all leather boots but they all look too try-hard and rustic, none of them give off a vibe of subtle quality and clean lines. RMW and the classic Australian Chelsea seemed to fill that void.

Any other brands you could recommend for that style of casual Chelsea boot that’s preferably made in a developed nation? Should I just go with a Harold’s?

Unrelated question, but does anyone own a pair of these for actual work? I’m in automotive and I usually wear Timberlands but I’d like to move on to something more durable and recraftable. I wish they made these in a full grain so they’d be easier to clean up and waterproof every few weeks.

Artista has different lasts, they look more sleek and refined.
Artista uses leather heel stiffeners (hard to find at this price)
Artista has very narrow beveled waists - this makes the shoe look very good but it can also cause gapping. I'm not sure this is a positive.
You can ask them to make Artista with normal waist.

all of the pnw loggers boots routinely put out notices for loggers/firefighters/etc. that there will be huge lead times due to more and more people wanting boots. now i dont know about you, but it's not like logging has exploded in popularity in the past few years. you know what has exploded in popularity? random deskfags who want white's to larp in.

>why dont they go on strike if white's is making them work more without increasing pay
you are so ignorant it's wild. they aren't making them work harder, hence the backlog. as the seasonal demand gets worked through, the backlog diminishes. i'm sure they have hired additional cobblers as well, but the demand has skyrocketed. thus, they increase prices in an effort to ease demand. since demand kept up, they continued to increase the prices again and again. when I bought my first pair of smokejumpers they were ~$350 after tax. they are now currently double that in just a few years. work a second extra shift and pay for some tutoring as well

Look. I went to White's when that was on the front page. See above, it managed to fit right between the packer and rancher for what I wanted. 4811 has higher arch than the packer's 690, but is lower than the rancher's 695.
Packer vs logger heel, either is fine but taller heel can be shortened later and the Frank's boot maker said taller heels are better for walking in. And being 10" instead of 8", sure.
Fits my needs without being a custom order, and the red dog leather seemed fine. I don't like it so much anymore. British tan or tobacco would have been better.
