After not being able to smell M01 despite being able to smell iso-e super, I decide to check out the rest of the line.
M02 - also couldn't smell it at first. It came around later. I would describe it as "sweet woody" as well as leaning masculine, but that's all there is to it. Pretty sure I've smelled the note a few times before.
M03 - just making sure I actually hate vetiveryl acetate. Yep, I do. It's Encre Noire without the pencil shavings from iso-e. That green cypress-vetiver note. Didn't smell much different from what I expected it to.
M04 - fucking beautiful. This is a sandalwood note that's really similar to good old santalol/sandalwood oil, and not the modern "santal" note that smells like ass and is put into a million faux-niche juices nowadays. Almost has a soapy vibe to it as well, because that's where I remember it from. This is the smell of a sandalwood soap I had a few years back and have been looking for ever since. How does this this get bad ratings? Best of the line by far, full bottle worthy for every sandalwood enjoyer. Gonna buy a bottle of Javanol instead and drop it into some perfumer's alcohol.
M05 - also quite good, but not M04 level. It's weird that people also seem to hate this. For me, this one had the strongest projection and I was picking it up a lot. It's just soft woods to my nose. People say it smells like mold, decay, soil, but I'd wear this, because I get none of that. Doesn't last that long, though.
So the only thing this perfume line has shown me is how different stuff can smell to people. Really makes you aware that some people might actually think you smell like ass even if you wear something you love.

I have to avoid aluminum antiperspirants since they turn my skin brown and scaly from being overly dry. I got this and it has a very light scent that is not enough to interfere with any fragrance.
It works fine, if I exercise or do yard work I have to reapply it, it will break down under excessive sweat.

I kind of regret trying molecule 04. I love sandalwood and now in everything that uses javanol, it's really obvious to me and sticks out as the same synthetic note. Only some very well blended ones manage to hide it, or maybe they're using some other ingredient. It kind of ruined the mystery.
ISO-E doesn't bother me much since it's a weak smell but I easily pick up javanol and ambroxan.

I tried Chergui by Serge Lutens a while ago and i really love the dry tobacco note its just a bit too bright and sweet for me.
Tobacco Oud and Tobacco Vanille are horrible, i tried both and one is just nasty sour while the other gives me a headache after 10 minutes.
It really is a shame, i thought Tom Ford frags would be better than they really are.

Yeah, sadly the javanol becomes really obvious. I'm not even sure whether Egoiste is using it or not. It's probably older than javanol, but they might have replaced sandalwood or santalol with it at some point. My main problem is still iso-e super, though, as it is scent-drowning pencil shavings to me. The drydown of Frederic Malles Monsieur smells almost identical to Encre Noire A L'Extreme to me. It's that bad. They should use M01 instead so I can't smell it.

Dolce & Gabbana have really nosedived in the 2010’s with their masculines, and are either run by robots, or are letting the robots design their perfumes with algorithms designed to make olfactory Kool-Aid out of the most-trending fragrance notes of the decade, since The One Grey (2018) smells neither particularly interesting, original, nor like it was even composed by a Human being at all. I’ve heard this argument lobbed at Dior Sauvage (2015), and while I won’t deny the possibility that some IBM-grade science wasn’t used for that scent, it really must have been exclusively deployed here. Furthermore, only a machine would think to make such inane flankers like Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme Intenso (2014), or additions to established lines like Light Blue Pour Homme Italian Zest (2018), that bedazzle with marketing themes or packaging graphics only to deliver something so tepid, so uninspired to smell, that it’s literally angering. At least with The One Grey, you can see that this is a boring also-ran with literally zero personality or originality before you even smell it. Is this some kind of satirical social commentary on the state of mainstream white collar male business culture? If it is, bravo Dolce & Gabbana, you really got me good with this one, now please get back to making decent fragrances again. This stuff is designed like they almost wanted to capture the “grey” of an office cubicle in a dead-end data entry position where supervisory positions are always outside hires with business management degrees fresh out of community college, and the training you were promised to get that promotion is just a dangled carrot to get more productivity out of the same pay grade. To make matters worse, The One Grey seeks to be the “cheaper alternative to Tom Ford” for the guys in those same hired-from-a-job-fair positions who want to smell like the Grey Vetiver (2009) their bosses wear but don’t want to cross into triple digit price territory to do so, and have exhausted all their free samples from Nordstrom, so they get in under $100 by buying this and “make it work”. Granted, cheapo alternatives are a matter of business for some houses, just ask Avon, Armaf, or Lomani about that, but at least they have enough self-awareness to put a unique and enjoyable spin to their usually-respectable downmarket homages. The One Grey opens with a truly enjoyable hesperidic vetiver note, probably the best part of the whole fragrance, but like many mediocre designers in this same category, the top notes are all it’s got. The grapefruit and vetiver eventually merge with some dry lavandin (a more medicinal variant of lavender), then some cardamom to muddle things up a bit, which is actually bad because fresh vetivers are usually soapy and clean, not brown and spicy. For me, it’s this clash of values which sets the tone for the rest of the scent, and the biggest sign that this was potentially made by IBM’s Wattson and not a perfumer, since cardamom is popular in many designers now. Amber, norlimbanol and Iso E Super posing as “grey woods accord” (yeah right guys, give me a break), and a fake “tobacco” that’s little more than tonka and trickery are the final stages of the scent, with the grapefruit coming back in the end to be made unpleasantly sweet by the amber, drowning out the vetiver. Luckily performance is on par with the original The One for Men (2008), so very quiet, even if longevity is decent enough.

I don’t know, I try to give a lot of designers a fair chance to show their inner beauty in spite of being juiced up worse with chemical enhancement than an Olympic bodybuilder or professional wrestler, and there have been a great many which have been unfairly thrashed by fragrance community snobs when they actually have some merit, accounting for taste of course. However, there isn’t even a slight sliver lining to this very “grey” cloud, one that is looming ever greater over the house of Dolce & Gabbana if stuff like this is the future of their creative direction. We’ve already seen a decade of inane flankers for older lines, and their last new masculine pillar is from the 200o’s, which is stretching into Chanel-length development cycles, but without the Chanel reputation for quality and originality. Honestly, if this really is an attempt to cash in on renewed interest in vetiver, there are so many better options at the same or lower prices than this, it’s existence is irrelevant, and if it is indeed meant to be a cheaper take on Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver, guess what? It’s only maybe half again cheaper at retail unless buying from a discounter, which is where stock of this is likely destined anyway. Huge Thumbs down, and if you end up with this as a gift, just bring it to the office for the next Secret Santa, just don’t blame me if they fire you for your sardonic sense of humor. This is a veritable flusher for me, but I won’t discount that a lot of you folks really into vetiver might actually be interested in something like this despite its huge flaws, or just something “perfectly boring” to wear when you have the pragmatic urge to smell like little extra besides deodorant. Make sure to sample this first, which shouldn’t be too difficult at department stores, who will literally thrust something like this into your hand at warp speed, especially during sales events.

Overall it is incredibly obvious how ignorant I am about fragrances. I went to some local stores and tried a bunch of samples, when I got home and some of them were dry I liked like 2 of them but had no clue what those were. What I definitely liked were the Cartier fragrances, I tried declaration and several flankers and all of them were outstanding. Montblanc explorer was also good. Dissapointed about almost every versace I tried. L´occitane was decent but not suitable for the hot weather I live in IMO. The first 3 fragrances I got (Again I´m a noselte so I think these were pretty much meh/bad choices):

Habit Rouge, Heritage and Pour Homme would make good office scents.
I personally like Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza and Colonia Club as warm weather frags. Prada L'Homme and Luna Rossa Carbon are good non-offensive normie frags, Luna Rossa Black works well as a cold weather frag.
Basically just avoid the expensive niche stuff for a office frag and get some popular designer stuff and you'll be fine.

It's a really great clone, and because it is fresh and clean smelling, non-offensive, you can spray it liberally. I do like 20 sprays. Generally the alcohol content seems to correlate if a clone will be weak or project strongly, and this beauty is 80% if I recall.

Azzaro chrome isn't expensive, but recently I was checking it out, and could only find it at like 60 bucks per 100ml. Way, way overpriced.

It depends, i've stored frags for more than a decade in a bathroom drawer in massive temp oscillations and nothing happened to them.
It will fall down to the quality of the drawer, in my example the cardboard boxes haven't been dampened at all so no vapor touched them and the wood from the thing is quite thick so no temp shenanigans there either, also completely dark due to no light leaks.

I have to clear it constantly otherwise pussy FedEx drivers won't come up my driveway and I order a lot of stuff from Walmart that ships FedEx. And they ship it out at random so they're here like every day even if I just made one order on the weekend, it'll come as 6 boxes spread over 4 days.

What and why do you order from Walmart lol I've only ever bought a microwave on there, but their shipping is crazy fast, so maybe I should start ordering more. Is NH nice? I've been everywhere in the US except for New England. Seems like a nice place to live but idk. There is some decently priced real estate out there too.

NH is pretty nice yeah. It's expensive somewhat recently luckily I bought my house before prices got too crazy. I've lived in New England most of my life except a few years I decided to move to Florida but came back. I like it, I guess it's a good place for introverts. Not much going on, very safe and quiet.

I'm at the end of a cul-de-sac there's nobody behind me and a long driveway so my house is set rather far back, it's a private lot but I do have 3 neighbors, I can barely see their houses from mine through the trees. Luckily they're all old and don't bother me.
