The tongue on my Carmina boots feels a lot more substantial and rigid than any other shoe I own.
It is fully lined, but I have other fully lined boots and it doesn't feel that way.

I've also realized that my Carminas always crease a lot less than other shoes.

I did a bit of Googling and apparently Carmina has a fairly substantial fabric between the upper and the lining (is this called interlining?). Is this accurate or just internet bullshit?

I guess this helps with aging more gracefully too.

Winter's already over and I already got like 4 wears out of my French rangers. Last year I got 2.

Yes.
I've never personally owned Urban Shepherds, based on the pictures I've seen, I would say these boots are much lower in quality. They have a basic work boot appearance with a thick, minimally designed upper and lack attention to detail.
However, in terms of durability, they are quite good, especially considering the price. They can last for years and the upper gradually softens and molds to your foot, while the sole remains as durable as when it was new. It's nearly impossible to wear out the sole, possibly due to it being made from tire material.

Does anybody have any experience with Harold’s boots out of Australia? They look good, well built and on par with RM Williams, but I’d feel better dropping $500 on a pair if I’d heard some firsthand accounts. There is next to zero information about them online after doing a rudimentary search.

On Carmina's "size guide" it has the Japanese size (in cm) next to it.
I thought it means if you're at those cm that's your size. Instead it seems to be insole length, so you need an extra 0.5-0.8cm over your feet length. I am stupid.

Anyway they had a sale on their previous GMTOs so it was from that category and couldn't be returned, I got it for 400€ including shoe trees.
I can wear them, they're just very tight. It's suede so it helps.

The problem is if the leather gets wet for any reason and then you walk on anything that's a little rough, that will ruin them very fast.

Grip improves a lot once you get a few wears in them and the smooth finish wears out too.

The uppers are now made in Vietnam. Blake/rapid stitch. Cork mix soles with the brass screws. Last for about 3 years of use according to the cobbler I just spoke with. Older company than RMW and introduced the Chelsea boot to Oz in the first place.

They'll last. 3yrs of daily till a resole is about what you'd expect from RM's synthetics too. About my average. Cost and export is another matter.
Basically, of you want and can afford RM's then go with them. I personally don't think they're worth it these days.
Protip: if you must buy RM's get the roo leather as yearling is shit these days. Roo is not farmed therefore there's no incentive to hormone the shit out of them to speedgrow them for meat's sake like with cattle. Better leather, and the veal model isn't worth the price.
So roo, and avoid the comfort model with the synthetic insole. Get the standard craftsman with leather insole and outsole and topy the latter because RM's leather outsoles sure as shit aren't oak bark tanned.

Harold have a too model. Cobbler I visited today didn't have one for sale though. Would've liked to have held them.

Back when I lived here bought, besides RM's, some Baxter dress boots. GYwelt, leather oursole. Uppers weren't as nice a leather as RM's, and they were lined in the toe with linen canvas rather than leather but they sure fittef my feet better than RM's. Looked recently and all baxters are outsourced now, not even like harold's where it's just the aussie leather uppers that are cut and sewn overseas.

Why I recommend the trad. leather insole and outsole instead of the comfort model is because of my own experience with the synthetic foam comfort insole 15yrs ago and what a cobbler has said about them now, post-LVMH RMW. Basically, I noticed now they didn't hold up so good compared with a regular leather insole with daily use. And I mean daily. No trees, just regular Joe who knows shit about taking care of boots kind of wear.
Cobbler on styleforum took apart a recent pair and they were even worse than they were 15yrs ago. Whatever LVMH did they made it even cheaper. Guy didn't have much faith in the longevity of them and that basically confirmed all my suspicions on this proton "comfort" insole the stores would all shill the fuck out of.

Basically, it's like a sneaker when you first get it, but before long flattens out and becomes less so. Leather insole is hard and zero-suspension as any all leather boot but they get more comfortable as time he goes by, opposite of the comfort model which loses its cushioning.

There used to be the best model with leather insole and rubber outsole. Gone. Thanks LVMH. The new richcunt aussie owner apparently hasn't delivered on any of their promises according to one of the rmw store staff I spoke with yesterday.
