I used to be weary of spending that much, but I decided to walk into a selvedge shop and try some on to immediately recognize that they are truly superior jeans. I know that isn’t saying much, but it’s really something you have to experience by wearing in your own pair of raw selvedge and enjoying how it softens up and fades to your body and movement. That being said, the construction quality of raw selvedge is highly superior to an average pair of mass produced jeans. Shuttle looms allow for a much denser weave and heavier weight denim, and they employ workers a living wage to perform high density of sewing, which results in even further structural integrity. On top of that, the natural indigo dyes produce much more vibrant, beautiful shades of blue. The important thing to consider is to really make sure you are getting the right fit of jeans and to immediately send them back if you need a different size. As a best, well-rounded fit, go with a straight/relaxed tapered

A lot of Japanese denim has slubby, uneven texture from a more uneven weave while making the denim on the shuttle loom. Brands that really exemplify the slubby texture are samurai and pure blue japan.

I own a pair of Weird guys and multiple pairs of Iron Hearts including the 777 and the 888. In my opinion, IH makes slightly more durable denim in the overall market, but whether you will go with IH or N&F really depends your preference for the classic americana look of clean weaves (iron heart) or the traditional slubby, uneven texture of japanese denim (N&F). IH looks pretty goofy when they're brand new, but speaking from experience they comparatively end up looking way better over time if you're wearing them every day and washing them every 2 to 4 weeks so that the indigo starts to really liven up in a faster time period. In my opinion, going with a heavy weight (21 to 25 oz) pair of jeans with very even weaves is a better experience because as you start to wear in your jeans, the denim really starts to become surprisingly soft while retaining the comfort of wearing a heavy, durable piece of armor over your legs. This is typically not as pronounced with slubby denim due to its uneven weave pattern which tends to retain some level of "roughness" to the touch. Heavy weight denim also tends to hold creases better and form more vibrant fade patterns if thats something you are drawn towards.

One more thing. Really try to consider which fit you will realistically love more and more over time. The 777 is a slim tapered fit which can work out for guys who are really skinny, but if you have medium to large sized thighs, this is not going to be an enjoyable experience. A lot of guys will end up liking the 888 more due to the larger amount of leg room and crotch mobility while still having a perfect level of taper down to the ankles

ok so pretty much anything is within that, the Japs bought up old American shuttle looms and make some really nice and unique fabrics, there are still some US brands making stuff at home, Brave Star and Rogue Territory come to mind. High end Jap brands usually have somethiong about them that makes them a bit different from the next one. Iron Heart, Samurai, Momotaro, Pure Blue, Sugar Cane, Studio D'Artisan, etc, all have something going for them and will be really up to your own tastes and needs. You call that piss? There’s no shortcuts in the selvedge world, kid. That’s what you gotta learn. You can’t just drink gallons and gallons of water to produce weak ass piss like pic related and expect to get quality pissed jeans. It has to be REAL piss, which is dark yellow in hue. Not just clear cold water that passed through you. It should take like a month to get your piss tub filled up with enough saved up real piss if you want to piss up your selvedge the right way. Only acceptable way of speeding up the process is if you invite some dehydrated bros from reddit to come over and contribute.

Find a chainstiching service and send it to them to chainstich the hem. That raise rope looking twisty patern on the hem is from the jeans being hemmed on a specific sewing machine that uses what is called a chainstitch. The machine pulls the fabric when its sewn and creates the ropey hem look.
The look is more pronounced if the chainstiching is done while the jeans are still raw because they fabric twists when its first washed.
Honesty the cost on chainstiching services is too expensive, if you live in a city whith a raw demin shop thst does it you can take it in and get it done somewhat reasonably but if you need to mail them somewhere it just costs too much money.

I'm not against it, but I myself prefer wearing the stacked leg. That being said, the better cuffs that I've seen only go up to your ankle, which should equate to just below the top of a 6" boot. Also, it looks like absolute shit when dudes have cuff widths that are like at least 6". It looks way better when a cuff is a little more narrow as opposed to something huge.

>> No.17498569

Iron rangers are the quintessential reddit boot that dudes on r/mfa are told should be their first big boy boot. In the big picture, they're pretty solid in terms of their build, but in terms of the appearance a lot of people think they are the goofiest looking cap toe boot. Everyone has their own opinions about cap toes, but I believe that some boots can do the cap toe really well without looking goofy.

>> No.17498575

>>17498569
So they're bad because they're popular?
I actually own a pair of Iron Rangers. They don't look as goofy or clown shoe in person and are way slicker than I expected, but not as sleek as a dress boot. With uncuffed jeans they're pretty unassuming and don't stand out in the slightest. Beckmans are more bulbous and eyecatching.
Also the break in period on IRs is relatively short for this kind of boot, so maybe that's why they get recommended so much as first big boy boots.

Yeah, I guess they're cringe because way too many nu-males on reddit wore them, which isn't really a good reason to not wear them. They're objectively good boots purely in utilitarian terms. Solid build and easy break in for sure. It all just comes down to personal preference, and in my opinion, the combination of its vertical-looking heel cup and its toe makes it look kind of goody and weird. We are really splitting hairs though. If I were to change anything with the iron ranger, I would make the heel cup more defined and sexy while slightly raising the heel on the bottom of the boot to almost make it a logger heel. This is why I prefer Whites cap toe boots

I like the idea of raw denim, and have bought some in the past, even expensive ones, but the idea of being forced to wear the same pair of jeans every day for it to look good is literally anti-fashion. I dont want to be limited to basically one outfit.
