/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - TIMBS IF HE LACE TO TOE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I own a pair of split toe derbies and I agree, it is a mistake.

MAYBE if the split was reverse stitched so it's almost invisible (yes there is actually a seam here).

FWIW, zipper with another form of closure (lace, strap) is retarded and women, but zipper alone on laceless plain boots makes a slim calf-hugging silhouette possible. You cannot get your boots to cling that close to your leg with any other forms of closure.

There's been a slew of other Aussie bootmakers that have made workboots and every so often you get that one piece of leather that usually only denotes RM's. Might be some old model that was once offered by the likes of Baxter, Harold or even Rossi.

Now it's about the objects themselves, disconnected from the experience. you see this when ppl post pics of their watches or shoes, cropped so it's basically like a product shot, disconnected from the outfit.

Discussions are also no longer about the purpose these objects serve (hiking, going to the office, etc), but just grabbing attention, hence the flashy colours.

the appeal of dr. soles is that they use retro inspired molds and add shredded up cord mixed into the rubber compound
i guess you would want that as a repro larper, because that's what the US army did for their combat boots during WWII for no other reason than it being a material saving measure, because rubber was in high demand for the war effort, they used shredded up hemp cord as a filler
it looks absolutely hideous, but supposedly adds better grip

thursdays are are one giant marketing gimmick and are not even worth it if you want something cheap
thursdays whole deal is appealing to the entry level retard who watches stridewise and company and all they want is CHEAPEST GYW BOOT
but what is the point in getting a GYW boot?
practically noone resoles them, because it's not worth it and they fall apart before they even get to a resole
thursday cuts corners on everything just to make them GYW for under $200 and still make profit
>resoling costs almost as much as getting a new pair
>the footbed is synthetic and is going to crack and disintegrate before anything else
>rewelting and changing the footsbed will cost you significantly more than a new boot
>what are you a saving with a resole? cheap mystery meat upholstery leather uppers
>absolutely horrible QC
it is a wear for a year (2 max) and toss them boot, like everything at the mall, which actually works out cheaper
the fact that you can get grant stone for a bit more money makes people shilling these almost a crime

>casual comfortable work boots

If it matters to you, Rossi isn't made in Aus anymore (mine are) and they're probably my favourite shape to wear casually so I've downgraded mine to casual use

For my actual work boots I wear Redbacks now which I would say are even more comfy. The top ones are the steel cap (bobcat) and has like a more symmetrical cut at the front that makes it look more bulky and bulbous.

The bottoms aren't steel toe but they are cut more sleeker on the top similar to the Rossi where it's like a V cut at the front of he foot. I personally think these would look better worn casually if you don't need steel toe but both are great to stand and walk in for long periods

Sizing is the same, get your AU/UK size which is one size smaller than your US size

exactly, GYW is useless on cheap dogshit boots like tursdays. Assuming the footbed and uppers survive longer than the outsole, you will still pay a skilled cobbler probably a similar price you paid for the boots in the first place. What do you get for it?
