Maybe some master memer can make a bell curve meme about watches; the best looking ones are on both ends and look similar with wildly different prices, and all the shit in the middle is what most consumers buy.

I am your typical F91W poster but lately I have realised I do need some kind of analogue watch to wear with nicer outfits.

I am pretty wealthy, so price is no object, but I also don't actually enjoy spending money for the sake of it. And I'm not used to taking very good care of my watch (see first line) so am a bit worried I'd end up damaging a good one.

I really don't like the meme rolex look - they're fucking disgusting and tasteless. E.g. my car is a somewhat understated classic vehicle that does still convey significant means, but I hate modern supercars - even though I could easily have a collection of muh lambos.

Any ideas, guys?

Do you have any idea of what you like? You can't really ask for a recommendation of under a million dollars but you don't like spending money but want nice things. That ranges from $100 Seiko 5's to $50,000 Rolex/GS/Patek/Pannier/whatever.

Some posts above you will show there are attractive but cheap watches only snobs would turn their nose up at because it didn't cost $30k but in a business enviroment that isn't a dick measuring contest, an analog Casio or Timex would look fine.

50k would probably be about my limit. I could easily spend that much on a watch but even by that point it would feel pretty ridiculous and I'd want to at least somewhat look after it.

And, let it be known, the whole point of this is style and outward appearance, I'm not going to pretend some girl shit like "it's for myself" or "I'm just a collector".

I want people to think certain things about me if they see me wearing it in a restaurant or whatever. The plainer analogue type is surely all the same unless you get up close to look, right? That's why kids like the chunky rolex/g-shock (same thing) look, easily distinguished from further away.

What I have to remember most of all here is that *other people notice and recognise this shit much more than I do* so I have to kind of just trust that it matters and trust how normies and girls will respond to it.

Someone post a retard's list of watches and I'll tick ones I like, idk?

$50k buys nearly every high end watch you can think of outside of the watches that cost as much as houses made pretty much only for arab oil shieks, rappers wanting a million dollar watch, or chinese billionaires. Thats still a fairly wide range because even at $50k some of them are ironically ugly because thats how some super wealthy separate themselves. They put on a $50,000 ugly watch and everyone notices and knows its worth a lot so they for no reason like it.

Do you have a style you kinda like (price not withstanding)? Also, what do you do that you make so much money you'll drop $50k as an accessory to hobnob with other rich people?

luxury items like cars, clothes, jewelry, knives, guns etc should only be purchased if it wouldn't affect your life one bit if you threw it off a cliff. That money should be comparatively little to your overall net worth. If you have a net worth of a billion dollars wearing a $100,000 watch, if it stops working and you toss it in the trash you'll never notice. If your net worth is -$100k because you're so saddled with debt and wearing a $10k watch you're a moron. Thats the attitude actually wealthy people have. If you took that money and set it all on fire they wouldn't miss it tomorrow.

Its why people making $50k a year driving a $100k car living in a $800k house with $200k in other debts is why people are constantly broke. Any little financial shit that inevitably comes around fucks them up for years by buying shit they simply cannot afford on credit they can barely pay back.

Yes. Losing time is good if you want to regulate your watch on a daily basis (pic related). If it can't lose time, then the only way to compensate for the few seconds it gained is to unscrew the crown and set the time manually.

The most retarded thing about that new Omega movement (which is great, no doubt about that) is how they claim it's accurate to a tenth of a second. They COULD have set it to -1/+1 and beat Rolex but these retards willingly decided to set their movements at 0/+2.

That's definitive proof Omega is run by marketing retards.

I'm the anon in the previous thread about the one watch collection.
The Casio Lineage models look very underrated. Insane value.
LCW-M170D is titanium, but not sure if the digital display passes all social etiquette tests.
LIW-M700D has no digital display, but is stainless steel, not sure which grade, probably heavier.
The LIW-M610D has more color options, but also stainless steel.
The Oceanus product lines are higher end, still a lot of value, but they are bigger which I dislike, and most of them have a trace of blue color.

Well elegance at the low end is inexpensive and elegance at the high end is tasteful, the reason why enthusiasts buy mid-range watches is because they're the most fun, $200-$10,000 gives a manufacture quite a lot of money to play with when designing a watch while not being so expensive potential customers need to really consider versatility with the design, if you're spending $50,000 on a watch you're unlikely to have something with such a radical design it's an occasional wear, only really Richard Mille does that at the high-end.

It's not a bell curve scenario, it's not that elegant watch design is both the first and final boss to horology and everything else is just getting sidetracked by pleb traps, it's merely a coincidence that versatility and simplicity are appropriate at the low end and high end, albeit for for different reasons.

For the Patek, it's ugly indeed. (The render may not help.) But look at the people wearing rainbow Daytonas.

Don't know anything about watches or fashion.
I like these cuff style ones. Are they fashionable? Which brand is recommended? I like the analog watches that don't need a battery. How do I make them fit my slim/athletic build?

>> No.17488701

>>17488700
The cuff style strap can be put on any watch. You don't have to buy an ugly watch just to get a strap you like.

Buy the watch you like, then get the strap you like for it. That's pretty common.

>> No.17488703

>>17488696
Okay it's not exclusively elegant at the high end, but it's facetious to claim that there isn't a trend with high-end watches for them to be on the more simplistic and elegant end of the design scale, just because high-end brands occasionally release gaudy inelegant watches for third world dictators and hip hop artists.

15-50k is the price range for high-enders with a simple movement.

Depends where you are financially in life. $2000 for a watch is a lot of money especially if you only wear it twice a year for very special occasions. Will it hold its value? Will it be reliable for the next 15 years? Can you find a watchmaker to service it within reasonable price if it does need work?

No, i'm not advocating buying or holding a watch based on its resale, however for $2000 anything should retain its value should you need to sell it. A Rolex for $10k today, will likely be $10k a decade from now. Thats because as a luxury item it shouldn't be disposable. Similarly, if you set $2000 on fire today would it affect you much? Say you got a watch that cannot keep accurate time and a watchmaker charges $500 to service and repair it. Would setting $500 on fire affect you? If the answer is yes do not buy it. Will it bring you $2000 of happiness over the next 10 years? Only you can answer that.

I haven't wear a watch in years until recently and the steel case watches I own have a lot of presence. That is, I feel the weight constantly and I'm not accustomed to that.

Buddy you're not designing something from scratch. You're buy a movement, a case, a crown, a dial, some hands. Das eet mahn.

Does it have to be exactly like that? Grand Seiko did and does make a few 'cleaned up' watches with no date and little to no text. Not in this case shape though.

Friend of mine does that. Builds seiko clones and resells them. Might comission something from him.

It's more assembling parts than making a watch from scratch, considering you'd be buying the movement. You still need some special tools that aren't cheap and some skill. It's not so hard, but it ain't a walk in the park either.
If you wanna tinker with the movements themselves, now that's a bit more complicated.

I remember trying to make a list of pieces to order and getting stuck somewhere because I didn't know if some dial fitted in some case or something like that, and couldn't find any info online. If you want to list the parts I need, be my guest. I'll be loose in the requirements:
>case diameter: anything between 34 and 38mm
>thickness: less than 10 mm
>Movement: any quartz movement
>Hands and indices: anything similar to GS/VC/FC
>Dial: any light neutral color

I know, and I would be willing and (probably) able to do the assembling work, my issue is in finding the pieces and in knowing if they are compatible or not

There are a few in the elegance collection with one line. They have more conventional cases though. I like this one the most, nice blue dial and it's in titanium which is unusual for a dress watch. not

You don't know anything about either the f91 module or G-Shocks to make that statement. You first need to overcome your knowledge gap.

Different module in a floating design. That is before you even get to the bezel and strap. The material cost does not explain the price, just wait until you find out the material cost of an f91w. Your paying for features and durability.
