/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - WAXED FLESH CRUISERS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

When it comes to dress shoes, TLB Artista is unbeatable for the price.
Great quality, great materials, great lasts.

What sets them apart from other brands around the same price level is the leather heel stiffeners (on artista models only), and practically flawless finishing.

If you browse through their models you'll quickly realize they do not have many options for casual models, but are almost entirely focused on making dress shoes.

Low tier is stuff made decently but made in the third world.
Stuff like Allen Edmonds, Grant Stone, Meermin, even Thursdays. Obviously there's no comparison between GS and Thursdays for example.

Mid tier is stuff made decently in the West competing at the lowest price point possible.
Carmina, TLB, C&J benchgrade, Carlos Santos etc plus all the house brands of various retailers that are made by anonymous factories in Spain (e.g. Skolyx, Cavour, Skoak, J.Fitzpatrick etc).

High tier are shoemakers trying to do something a little more special than just the basics.
For example Bonafe, Yeossal, C&J Hangrade etc.
This is where you start to find handwelted shoes.

Top tier are the bespoke makers, some of whom have RTW models. G&G, Cleverley, Meccariello, Bemer, Fukuda etc.
Edward Green gets put in this list not because their shoes are flawless like the above, or made anywhere near as well, but because of a) price and b) their shoes keep looking brand new basically forever

The jump in price from high tier to top tier is dramatic, at least twice as much as high tier

look at the pic, one is structured the other is unstructured, both on the White's 55 last. celastic is the plastic they use to provid the firm/rigid shame of the toe. keyword here is firm/rigid meaning unyielding so if your toes don't sit right in the celastic box you're screwed not only that but if you have tall feet you can feel the edge of the celastic at max flex when going up stairs

Acetone is the thermonuclear option, it will get rid of it but it is also likely to strip the finish.
Saphir Renomat is more like a nagasaki by comparison, but it can still strip the finish or ruin "museum calf" and other odd patterns.

For me I've noticed that just good old renovateur (the conditioning cream) gets rid of just about everything, even scuffs. It's rare that I have to apply shoe polish (with dye) to fix something.

Sneakers, depending on the material, you can wash in the washing machine
Boots have to be polished. Which takes time. It takes special things you probably don't have (Saddle soap, Conditioner) and requires special handling and treatment depending on what you get on them (Get oil on them? better get ready to sop them in baking soda).

That said, they are WAY more durable than sneakers, people in these threads have posted boots they've had for 10 years, and with proper care, they still look great.

>how do you clean the smell out of them? and take out moisture?
Leather is just skin, and like skin: It's porous.
Leather is infused with oils and various scents that almost never come out. It has to turn to jerky before it's compromised. So a little saddle soap (special dust and grease-busting soap with rejuvenating ingredients like Neetsfoot oil) can take down surface grime and odors. For everything else, there's cedar shoe trees and baking soda (Cedar has odor-absorbing properties for the inside of the shoe)

Also yeah, for the longest time I just threw my sneakers in the washing machine, set it to medium. I know now that most of these sneakers are held together with glue, but if you get a good shoe, you can still do that.

Stones. They're made in China but they have extremely picky QC. Thursdays let whatever rolls off the assembly line stay on shelves. So you have a game of returning them until you're happy (and getting everyone else's returns until they're happy)
They also sell E and EE widths. Thursdays have a "wide" (grouped as E/EE which is bullshit) that is never in stock.

On TOP of that, Grant Stones also have Chromexcel models of all their boots while Thursdays have one or two chromexcel models and nothing else.

Lucky you.
Turd world tax I have to deal with is 100% on all footwear.
Leather is another 40%. Courier cunts like fedex, dhl, ups etc., charge their own extras on top of that. Imagine buying 2 and a half pairs of boots and only receiving one. *sob
I have to have shit sent to my office in another country in the region that has no bs import tariffs instead and collect them there when I can. And yes taxation is literally theft here as there's no way that money's being used on anything considering the absolute state of shit when I look outside.
Still, least I have that option that I assume most eufags don't have. Hasn't been easy to do for the past few years though. Finally got pic related after the seller held them for me for nearly 3 years.

Never had a box with two same side shoe in them and the number of failures on shoes that weren't clearly caused by the user were far in between, inluding the cheapest brands (about ten buck shoes).
I'm not saying Thursday don't have issues, I'm suspecting they're being overblown.

It doesn't work because now you're understaffed and the guy that was shipping 100 boxes now has to do 150 so he doesn't even bother looking at what he's doing.
Then a couple days later a new guy comes in, he looks around lost because he has no experience or he's too much a pothead to care that the laces in the shoes have a defect or that the glue leakage wasn't cleaned properly.

You what you want is to have workers that feel like they've a job worth keeping and that includes paying more than the absolute minimum and treating them like garbage.

>>17489398
Because although the same problems apply all across the industry, it's also true that some factories just put more attention to detail and maybe put more resources into quality control. If you have a good team, with experienced workers that feel valued they will not fuck you up on purpose. Defects will still go through but you'll not see ridicule stuff like two left shoes.
Also most problems happen when understaffed and there's too many orders too fill in little to no time.

And if you're the person in charge make sure not to fuck the little guy, in the food industry they'll spit on your meal, on they'll literally slash shoes before putting them inside the box.

Give me your opinion on these, guys. I'm looking for a boot that I can comfortably wear around town or at the office, and has versatility to go with a lot of different fits from casual to business casual. If you have any other suggestions I'm open to them, but I feel like these are at a pretty good price point and a lot of similar styles didn't come in E or EE width. My normal brannock is a 9.5E/EE (right on the edge of it) so I was planning to get 9E for these.

These come with a commando sole which is another reason I was really leaning into them. You almost can't tell unless you are looking at the heel from the side. I work in an office but I frequently have to go out and walk our facility so that really rules out leather soles, and I am leery of Dainite being much better at handling the slippery concrete. Kangaroo is the strongest leather, that's commercially used, for its weight. It's basically the titanium of leathers. It's great.
Also resists drying out cracking better than bovine as it's basically a desert animal.
My only experience with them has been on RM Williams boots compared with their standard yearling offering that was worse than it was 30yrs ago. My experience is from 10yrs ago.
Today the yearling is even worse then before so if I were to say purchase some RM's today I'd only ever bother with their roo leather boots as the animal is not farmed and therefore isn't subjected to ruinous (to the hide quality) fast-growing of cattle for their meat. Roo is wild and unadulterated.

I read about that omission on non-au sites. Apparently roo options were pulled worldwide because of apparent(?) negative reception to them?
I mean for sort of national symbol that is evoked in the minds of others when they think of australia it's funny that it's actually a pest that needs to be regularly culled.

Black used to be an option I'm sure..
Give RMW a few years to readjust to ozcunt ownership after a few years of LVMH bullshittery.
Also, avoid the comfort variety.
I noted that the synthetic footbed was bad quality in 2007, and was wary about it then. Apparently in a recent tear down this synthetic shit is even worse than before. Have to wait to see if things get better with the aussie owner, who basically doesn't need the money and just bought it as a pride/vanity project.
If you were in the market for RMW's chelseas today I would strongly advise only going with the regular leather sole options, in roo.
There used to be such variety in models, like the Blaxland which was basically the leather sole model (ie. traditional leather insoles not that synthetic shit in the comfort model) but with the longer lasting synthetic sole that the comfort model uses. Hopefully they bring this shit back.
The Signature craftsman comes on a nicer calf but at that price why fucking bother desu senpai.

As for current roo offerings yes chestnut is their typical dull mud brown but tanbark is rather nice.
