>Some people's brains are stuck in the pandemic-era gold rush where just about any watch was massively overpriced. Prices on steel Rolex are coming back down to earth. Prices on everything else is following suit.
Price on the grey market are dropping but MSRP price have skyrocketed these past 2 years.
The most comical examples I can think of are Omega and Jaeger Lecoultre - they raised their price by 30 to 50% in a matter of 24 months.
Like, the most basic Reverso is now 10k (it was 7k 3 years ago) and all you get for that money is a steel shitter with a poor 3hz movement and only 40h of power reserve.

People who never go into ADs don't realize this, but the gray market price is actually the real price. You can easily get the gray market price at an AD with this one magic phrase.
>Yeah, I think it looks pretty good. Let me think about it, talk it over with my wife. Do you guys have any wiggle-room in your pricing?
And then they will smile and offer you the gray market price.

I'm getting youtube memed by the bulova UHF moon watches but I got one of these when they came out and was disgusted by how cheap and shitty it looked IRL, has anyone here handled both one of picrel and the new chronographs? Also, the location and amount of competition.
When I lived in the LA area, I could get a discount on anything because there was nothing stopping me from driving a couple minutes up the road to the next AD.
When I moved to New Hampshire, there's fewer ADs for a given brand, so they're less inclined to offer as generous a discount.

I feel BASED for owning one and knowing I made the smartest choice. The fact it makes retards seethe is just a nice bonus.
Rolex is simply unmatchable in terms of:
>accuracy (-2/+2s / day - literally the best automatic movements on the market)
>quality control
>after sale service (every Rolex AD is required to have horologists on site)
>history, iconic status
>marketing and public image (no cringe brand ambassadors)
>value retention

>> No.17481553

>>17481548
Half of those are definitely not "unmatchable." accuracy is similar to many other Swiss brands and many of them make more durable movements than Rolex. Quality control is hard to say, but I've certainly seen seiko bezel misalignment on submariners (assuming they aren't fake). History not necessarily (omega btfo Rolex here), iconic status I guess. Marketing and value I'll give you that, because retards slurp Rolex cummies all day long.

I don't want to think about that so have stayed away from aqueous solutions for watches, but have used that for cleaning a clock movement where it's easier to dry the parts immediately with a compressed air stream.
I stay away from anything ammoniated; I tried that first and noticed it pulled some of the copper out of surface of the parts. Did some research after that and found that it embrittles the metal on prolonged exposure, so switched to plain naphtha.

Men can only justify throwing insane amount of money at watches because they serve a purpose and require a lot of engineering (the most masculine field of study), as >>17481901 pointed out.
If you don't care about the intrinsic quality of your watch and can only appreciate pretty things, I suggest you buy yourself some nice Cartier necklace or a pair of Van Cleef & Arpels earrings.

Apparently nobody knows how they did it at Bulova, the machines, the documentation, and the people are all gone. Citizen bought the index wheels from Bulova for their Hisonics, so they didn't know either.

Last hope would have been Slava, who managed to reverse-engineer the 214 for a 1000 watch run, but those were said to be unreliable, and the 2MChZ (2nd Moscow Watch Factory, Slava's manufacturer) is now defunct, the factory demolished, and everything lost.

I want to get a new luxury watch lads. I was thinking about a Zenith Defy 1/100th second chronograph, an Omega Speedmaster pro, or an 36mm steel bezel Rolex Datejust

My profession is unfortunately notorious for corruption, so wearing a rolex might not be the best look, I like the speedmaster, but the clasps don't have a lot of room for adjustments, and the Zenith is a bit big at 44mm. I guess every watch has its pros and cons. Thanks for reading my blog post you cunts

Overall it looks decent design-wise, but I'm sick and tired of retards going to watchmaker school thinking they should be earning $500k/year, and retards who support them. I have some slightly autistic requirements for a watch strap. It has to fit 22mm lugs and be unpadded, leather (shitty leather is still okay), brown with tan/white boxed stitching, ideally be between 2-3mm thick, and have a silver buckle (ideally brushed).

Kind of like a hybrid between these two, as the one on the left has an unpadded strap but has open stitching, while the one on the right has a padded strap but boxed stitching.

Doesn't look bad otherwise if you happen to like the plain look. I don't like all the seconds indices but thats just me.

i really like the look, i fancy classic dials with clear designs, reviews hail it as an almost perfect everyday watch with features and materials rarley seen at this price point.

Not a bad choice, but a bit too simple for me. Have you checked out the black one?

Take a look at seiko 5 sports, options from 300-600 that might work:
https://www.seikowatches.com/us-en/products/5sports/lineup?#sports-style

If you are willing to pay a bit more, the Tissot prx automatics have a nice-ass integrated bracelet and solid finishing for the price. pic rel

If you want something a little less recognizable but decent finish, check out Islander Watches, some of them fit your criteria:

Lastly, if you are willing to pay more the 750-1100-ish range, some of Christopher ward's stuff is nice.
