I don't understand the point of this tanktop, because people always wear it as an undershirt, except it doesn't cover the armpits, so if you wear a shirt over it, then the armpits still get stained. I feel like it's totally pointless to wear it, a t shirt it better.

A.k.a., "Sleeveless Tee-shirt": has material to edge of shoulder / wide shoulders

vs.

"Tank top" that has abit narrower straps over shoulder showing most of shoulders and deltoid muscles.

"Wife-beaters" have narrowest straps and are usually white gray or black (and are sold in underwear section with boxers n briefs, e.g., Calvin Klein, Nautica, etc.).
