/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - BULLHIDE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

As companies are raising their prices and Vibergs and Aldens and the like are marching towards the $1000 mark, just a reminder that you can get MTO handwelted shoes and boots from Enzo Bonafe (a solid tier 2 maker) for like $650 and in fact you can get stuff from Meccariello, arguably one of the best shoemakers alive today, for about $700 for RTW or around $1000 if it's made to order.

>Boots now are so expensive there's no reason to even bother. Just get something cheap and replace them

You're a stupid bitch and dumb asses like you ruin entire fucking industries.

You can get an amazing MTO boot for $250-700, brand new. Let's go for the max price here, $700. Avoid the prestige trap money pit "big names", do 30 mins of research.

Let's assume the average reader is 25 years old and will die at 80. And let's say they have to resole the boot three times at $150 each over the course of their life. So one pair of boots, life time cost is $1150. Over 55 years that's $21/yr for one pair of boots.

Now let's say he gets a cheap pair of boots for $100, and they last three years. They won't, but let's pretend. That works out to $33.34/yr, for shitty boots.

I know you're literally too stupid to comprehend this but for anyone else with two fucking brain cells it's always cheaper long term to get the better product. And this is a best case scenario for the shit product, it costs more per year if it doesn't last as long. Doesn't matter when you enter a hobby/luxury clothing collection, if it's a well made item you actually use the better one will save you money up to a certain point where you pay for a name.

For anyone wondering why their shirts/pants/costs don't last but prices stay the same or go up slightly, it's because most people in the world have the same brain power as this buffon. Quality goes down because people just think oh well, I'll just buy something cheaper and replace it, the concept of maintaining anything eludes them unless it's a shelf for their Funko pops. Fuck you.

wew lad why not just assume that you will never ever ever have to resole or rebuild them because they are just made so well!
i work in the woods and people will resole their boots every 2 years on average, 3 years if you really take care of your boots. next time you rebuild them, and then they can be resoled one final time before they are literally just blown out shitters not worth putting more money into when you can get a new pair with a company discount.
resoling is not $150, it's closer to $200, with rebuilding being about $250, because you are going to get the NFPA because you actually use your boots for work
getting some shitter danners or whatever for $300 is obviously retarded but thinking you onl yhave to resole your whites after like a decade is laughable

they look and feel nice. The leather doesn't stink, either.

Only one concern: How do I style these? See, they are the exact same flesh color as my foot. So it kind of looks like I'm barefoot from a distance.

TLB has a new collection with a rounded 'American' last and 'not dainite' soles around the 400€ mark

This is part of their budget line so the heel stiffener is celastic and the waist is normal width and not beveled.
I'm sure if you email them they would do leather heel stiffener for a little extra cost, they've been known to build budget-line shoes with the construction of an artista-line if you ask

I tried to do an MTO (just to get rid of dainite) and they come out to about 450€ for shoes and 540€ for boots which is very solid MTO pricing considering TLB quality of construction and materials, and also considering not many EU makers have anything that looks like a rounded US last.

It's still not totally round, it seems more like an Alden Barrie to me

>All you need is boot grease
that's what a conditioner basically is? a 16oz bottle of Bick4 will last you long enough.
>brush (doesn't matter if its horsehair)
it does very much matter, especially on smooth leather. Other brush materials can be too harsh and scratch the leather.
>shoe trees
helps keep shape and prevent toe spring, maybe or maybe not also helps by reducing moisture and odors. If you want your boots to last as long as possible they are mandatory imo.
>rotating
if you can you should 100% do it.
Quoting nigs
>So, why are people supposed to rotate work boots or shoes? So their shoes or boots can dry out while the next pair is being worn. Doing so extends the life of the footbed, and can cut down on the growth of bacteria and foul-smelling odors.

What's the go to pure conditioner now that lexol's gone to shit? That was the great thing about it as it didn't do anything else but condition; no water resistance additives, no satin polish, no cleaning agent etc., just conditioning. And it didn't alter colour either.

good news /btg/! I managed to stretch my boots enough to make them a good fit. Basically what i did was mix some isopropyl and water then slushed it around inside the boot for a few minutes, then also applied it on the outside, specifically the part i wanted to stretch, for another few minutes, then i placed an oversized shoetree in them for about 24 hours or so and now they are a much better fit. With a proper shoe stretcher i could have probably stretched them further.

I was curious about this, started looking around. It's not a great picture so idk if I'm off the mark or not.

My first gut instinct is that it is a Red Wing Blacksmith, on the left here. But the heel counter is the wrong shape. The Blacksmith's heel is circular and that one appears to go up the boot and likely ends in a bootstrap.
I think, I can't see through his skinnyjeans.

The stitching on the side matches the Red Wing Blacksmith, but the heel doesn't, but I can't really see the heel so maybe it does? The Blacksmith is sold in Vibram lug configuration, which looks to be what that is. If you have another picture, it may help.
