Ugly douchebag who gave up on looking good because he is old and fat but wants people to know that he can afford a watch equal to one month of his wagie allowance and is regurlarly disappointed that people still don't give a fuck about him and women don't even aknowledge his existence EDITION

Ended up getting the Edifice (imo the real Casioak).
I accepted the fact that the bracelet doesn’t feel premium but for 100 bucks it’s not bad and it’s only the feel when handling it. Otherwise it’s comfortable and looks good.
I’ve seen hundreds of watches below 1000 and didn’t like any better than this one.

I don't fully disagree with that. But look at the "casual" watches and the dress watches that start at 40mm. It makes no sense plus they're worse off than watches from 50 years ago. An actual sport watch that is anticipated to get banged around like a g-shock does make some sense.

There is a handful floating around on sports watches. I think it's because it's a romantic complication (read: almost completely useless) and sports watch buyers are more often looking for something practical. A moon phase is actually pretty impractical because they tend to be quite annoying to set.

Its complete irrelevance, if we define luxury as having an excess over what's simply necessary, then the moonphase is luxurious as a pointless and therefore excessive complication. As opposed to most other complications that actually serve a purpose, which is not luxury but rather utilitarian.

Watches will basically become useless when SHTF. Apocalypse, you are left underground for few years, your battery will obviously die. Who is going to produce batteries after an apocalypse?
A mechanical? Don't kid yourself, it requires service every few years, so unless you're able to take care of it, you're SOL. Let's not forget about the problems with the accuracy and durability no matter the type of watch.
Don't invest in timekeepers;buy clothes, food rations, collect gas masks and steel knifes instead.

>buy clothes, food rations, collect gas masks and steel knifes instead.
You act as if we don't already have clothes. All food becomes rationed, MREs is prepper shit to give you diarrhea. Gas masks are only useful if you have NBC cartridges to breathe through. And steel knifes? As opposed to plastic ones? You third worlder have no concept of prepping.

Because, get this: I don't actually care about watches. I care about flexing. >Noooo you're going to be underground in total darkness for years
No you're not. You've really fucked up if that's happened. Presumably you're going to want to come out at intervals to hunt or trade. If you do need to hole up, you can use a bike to power a generator and charge up a battery that'll give you light, tunes, Kindle, etc, which will keep your watch charged.

>Let's not forget about the problems with the accuracy and durability no matter the type of watch.

A gshock probably isn't dying unexpectedly. It could happen, but that's literally any piece of equipment

>Accuracy
At 15 seconds a month who gives a shit in a shtf? Yeah it's not going to have THE time eventually, but it'll be good enough. You just sync watches against one person's watch and then you'll be able to coordinate meetings and know if something's wrong or not, as long as your watches are synced it'll work just fine.

another thing: the ratched does not return to the full stop position.
if you turn it a little less than 1/120, it will stay at that point.
if you want it to be perfectly centered you gotta ratchet it to the right "notch" and then turn it back that fraction of a noth to "set" it to the full stop position.

what i think is that the vast majority of misaligned bezels you see on pics etc. are just bezels that ar ein the right nots but not turned back that little bitch of a notch to really "sit" in the right, full stop position.

Jesus, just get a watch that fits you. It's like wearing a shirt that actually fits. For people who have small round wrists, wearing a 36-38mm would not look out of place. Wearing a bigger watch will not increase your wrist size. In fact, it will just draw more attention to the fact that you are a wristlet. Do not allow your insecurities to get you to waste your money and make you look like a shit clown in the process.

The size of the watch also depends on what you are wearing with that watch. For formal wear, small conservative watches are often seen as more appropriate. For something more casual (especially short-sleeves shirts), bigger watches look better on bare wrists.

Based. I used to feel insulted by watches that cost more than $100 but had the same technology as a $20 Timex, but having had the quartz version of a certain Tissot that has been recently very popular, I realise it was Timex that sucked, not quartz movements.

Now I just wouldn't get anything with a Seiko NH35 or a Selita SW-200 or any movement described as a "workhorse" movement, there's nothing special about those movements, they're certainly not more convenient or more durable than quartz, not any more soulful and while some might say a benefit to a ETA clone or a Seiko movement over a bespoke and actually interesting mechanical movement is the relative inexpensiveness of servicing, it is still nevertheless a LOT more than changing a battery.
