My frame of reference is in canadabucks so bear that in mind.
>Cheap
Arab knockoffs, off-brands and department store shelf goods. Usually from $20-$60. Some deceptively good value in some duplicates if you look around, but be careful not to get scammed.
>Reasonable
Designer house (Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace, Hugo Boss etc.) Eau de Toilettes mostly. Usually around $100 to $140 behind the counter in department stores or at Sephora or your local equivalent, but available much cheaper from reputable online discounters. Always buy from discounters, check the OP. Generally worth the money, will almost always have better performance than their knockoff equivalents.
>Expensive
Niche and upper-rung houses like Creed, Xerjoff, Tom Ford etc. Expect to pay <$300 for a decent sized bottle, or ~$150 for a smaller 30-50ml Eau de Parfum. Usually worth it, but only for something that you've been able to spend some time with in person. Still usually available from discounters.

My girlfriend likes when I do so I do it. Then again I also do it when she isn't staying for the night, but then I wear something she doesn't like. My choices of fragrance are slightly being affected by this. During a usual day, I go to work, I go home, I go to bed. I wear the same fragrance the entire day and reapply at home in the evening. On every other day I also go to the gym after work, so I can change the fragrance after showering. That means I can wear stuff my gf doesn't like to work and change for bed and so on.
SOTD Chanel Egoiste, which technically lasts too long, since it will still perform when I hit the gym this evening. After that Marbert Man Classic for bed, because my gf isn't staying over.

>>17468550
Entirely based on the person. I consider stuff above 2€/mL basically overpriced (calculated for a 100 mL bottle, usually). There's so much good stuff below that. I try to buy designers at around 0.50€/mL (or less), because they are often on sale for that price. I'll spend up to 1€/mL for the higher quality designers and anything between 1€ and 2€/mL for niche. There are also some fragrances which are within that price range and which I consider interesting, but not interesting enough to buy. I currently have this problem with B683, which smells really good to me, but not 190€/100mL good. For that, it is a tiny bit lacking.
Prices like Roja and Creed ask for are entirely bullshit to me and they won't get my money, simple as. I can find stuff I like better for less money.

>>17468564
Chanel Platinum Egoiste. Not only is Armaf not a good clone house, copying Chanel fragrances is usually really hard as well.

>> No.17468682

>>17468550
>cheap
10-40$. can still find some good stuff in this price range, like a lot of older classics and everything Lalique makes
>reasonable
40-100$. standard modern designer stuff. some of it is definitely worth the price, some not so much
>expensive
anything beyond that. can still be worth it for good niche frags, but there's also a lot of overpriced 300$/bottle pseudo-niche out there

Old man here looking for advice

Ok I'm 35 but not trying to project a young image just age-appropriate, that can carry me into my 40s.
I'm looking for something classic, that's been around for a long time and isn't going anywhere, and can be used year round.
I have Zino Davidoff and I like it but it feels a little older and heavy, especially in the summer. For summer I only have Cool Water and that's not even really my style, it's too sporty.
I tried Lagerfield and did not like it, was a bit too soft and flowery. I think I do like the "powdery" aspect of it, just not so purple smelling if that makes sense. To me it kind of smelled like a grandmother's soap.
Next on my list is Aramis but it's also not looking good for year-round use, it's rated best for fall and winter.

>> No.17468739

>>17468734
Also I should probably mention budget... most of the stuff that's been around for a while seems not too expensive which makes sense since it's in wide distribution and not the most popular and new thing, but I'd like to keep my purchase(s) under $100, and anything over $50 I'd like to sample first. I know some fragrances go for way more than that but it's not *that* important to me especially considering these are consumables.

Non-blue fragrance recs for high heat and humidity? (Above 30°C/90°F)
Southeast Asiafag here (I sweat a lot too if that matters), sampled BdC, Sauvage, Luna Rossa Carbon, YSL Y EDP and a few Middle Eastern clones before realizing I'm not the biggest fan of blue scents.
Looking for something that won't turn too cloying/sweet when the heat gets crazy and I start sweating.
I sampled Perry Ellis 360 Red and I really wanted to like it but I kept getting this bug spray vibe that put me off.
Nishane Wulong Cha smells insane on my skin and was a life changing experience, but a full bottle isn't something I can afford right now.
Been thinking of sampling Chanel Allure Homme Sport and Platinum Egoiste, Dunhill Icon, John Varvatos Pure Artisan, and the Armaf Millesime Imperial and SMW clones among others to see if any of them are more in line with what I'm looking for.

TLDR: good scents for sweaty people in a tropical country? Max budget is around $100 but I'm open to spending more (or less) if the sample impresses me enough.

Opium pour homme

it's getting hard to find and price has gone up but it's so worth it still even for $80. Not officially discontinued I guess just not in high circulation.
It's zesty and juicy opening with black current and star anise and dries down to the best vanilla any fragrance has. On the way it gets a kind of bubblegummy smell in the background as the vanilla starts to take over. It's the one scent that gives me a little endorphin rush when I first try it after going a while without it.

Only downside is longevity. It lasts about 3 hours on me before becoming unnoticeable but projection is good for most of that time. But pretty much everything is short lived on my skin.

am also searching for the ultimate dupe for Vintage CW.
I sampled Très Nuit - it is a really good scent, a bit less synthetic than newer CW, has a neat base, but it is much more floral in the opening and drydown, the violet color of the bottle was picked on purpose. Coty aspen is the closest dupe that i used so far, hits the green parts in the drydown well plus has enough oakmoss, but is missing that aquatic note, so more emerald than CW. There are some arabic dupes around i want to try too, but haven't come across them yet. For me, the newer CW only performs well on cold days and loses its resemblance when its getting hot. It's unfortuneatly like a pixelated photo.

Advice on eliminating other scents so your real fragrance can shine? I already use the most basic soap I can get, and I use soap nuts to wash my clothes, so they don't smell of gay chemicals. On the same trip my man, been wondering about vintage CW for almost a decade but only recently have i ventured in the world of fragrances because my last teenage frag ended (Boss Element) and i have no signature again, CW being my first and most enduring scent through childhood and teenage years.
I have tested GIT in expensive, perhaps ill-stored decanters and it smells nice but too grassy and no oakmoss/dampness scent, Tres Nuit will be my first buy since i started learning about frags (December last year) and that Floris JF i read yesterday that it's expensive, no good performance and shipping costs a lot but seems to be a fruitier GIT.
Other than that i read about Aventure Knight from Haramain but they say it's too oriental and strong for its own good, Chez Bond no. 9 seems to be similar to CW in the aperture but the drydown is supposedly creamier/floral rather than woody.

>but it is much more floral
How so? iris, violet?
Also about Aspen because it is the same bottle and made by Coty i always discarded it but your words have interested me, what i truly miss from CW is not the high-quality non-stringent calone but the greeness/oakmoss aspect of its base note, which is totally absent in Coty CW.
>It's unfortuneatly like a pixelated photo.
For me it's almost a different frag, it's very sharp in the aperture and dries down to a salty old lemon while vintage opened with pleasant soft calone and lemon with a strong hint of greeness and dried down to the smell of humid cedar with a bit of tobacco. Fresh vintage CW was something else, much more complex than today and it's a shame few newcomers know exactly why it was so rampantly popular to the point of surpassing Drakkar Noir.

> How so? iris, violet?
violet especially, good but like someone poured flowers over that wet green grass from GIT. they are very present in the drydown. the rest ist more GIT leaning. Good but a bit like an arabic perspective on the western original.
> Also about Aspen…
From what you wrote you should really dig Aspen, very green, old schoolish and its also dirt cheap, go for it. Opening is a bit synthetic but the drydown becomes really nice and is somewhere between GIT and VCW.
>Fresh vintage CW

Coty Aspen and current formulation CW smell basically the same to me. Gonna spray them on my wrists later and test it again, but it's certainly way too similar. Coty Aspen also fucks off in 10 minutes, what a disappointment.
L'Aventure Knight isn't worth it. In warm weather (or hot weather) it becomes very, very synthetic smelling, almost a plastic note in it. I thought it would be perfect on a hot day (dropped it in an order in the past to get free shipping, must have been 2 or 3 years ago), but it was horrid.

That being said, Vintage CW was also a waste of my money.

Half the juice flies out with each spray and the store entirely smells of the stuff already, but that guy is still pumping and pumping. A solid mL has come out after like 40 sprays, so there's only 160 more to go until his bottle is full, with the option of a 100 more due to evaporation losses and not hitting the bottle right. He's just pumping and pumping. He's still pumping when the cops arrive. What happens to the guy smelling pretty when arriving at the holding cell entirely depends on who's in there with him.

If i fail in this mission to find a vintage CW scent i guess i will either layer petrichor or oakmoss on the thing i find the most similar or downright go the Drakkar-Dakar/Fahrenheit route.

I know someone here has it and it was apparently good. I didn't pull the trigger and decided to wait for a deal on it, but I think it has since been discontinued. It was cheap as hell but has now massively increased in price and is out of stock at many vendors. If you can still get it at a reasonable price, go for it.

Smelled a sample, it's not quite there in terms of presence but in the drydown it smells like rain already, a rocky area rain and not the asphalt or forest kind of rain. Shit performance as it is very close to the skin but also makes it seem natural.
Haven't tried a pure oakmoss sampler, i suspect what it smells like but i could be dead wrong as i might confuse it with another green scent.
I believe oakmoss smells like those mossy rocks near the rivers, a damp humid tone similar to the vapor of a bottle of water that condensed with the atmosphere heat, still some say it is also bitter hence the fear i might be completely wrong as water or those rivers never smelled bitter to me.

>and do you really layer dakar and fahrenheit?
No, meant to say i would either use Dakar, maybe layer it with Drakkar to complete the original smell, or i would just use Fahrenheit because it smells pretty great and some say the current formula is close to the old one. I kinda recall what Drakkar smells like because i oddly haven't seen a tester or sampler in my area despite being pretty popular.

Barbershop to me means that blue stuff they keep the combs in. Barbicide. Mixed with shaving cream which is usually a powdery smell.

And soapy is like dove white soap. Sharp and bitter, with a thick texture.

Civet I have no idea. Pungent and fecal apparently, but used in such small amounts and mixed with other scents it helps enhance them so I guess it doesn't matter as a descriptive term.

Odorless to avoid bothering the customers, at least around here. The only lotion is the one they apply at the end and by request, there's a variety of them.
>dove white soap
>Sharp and bitter
wut, Dove is creamy and tame with a hint of thickness. What kind of dup Dove soap are you applying that comes as bitter.
>guess it doesn't matter as a descriptive term
Indeed, but still we can see we have different definitions of common words because it depends heavily on the context. Fragrance reviewers are flawed, i much rather use mainstream products to explain stuff to the retarded than use highly ambiguous terms.

Like Dior Eau Sauvage, i checked it to see the hype and it hit me with a mineral lemonade smell except quite artificial, like a cheap bottled carbonated lemonade rather than a real homemade lemon seltzer. No trace of bergamot or the other florals, it also went away after 2 hours, it was disappointing but i imagine it was quite new back in the 60's or the original formula was much much better.
Nicest bottle i've handled along with vintage Z14, have to admit that.

Only way to really know is just sample a lot of stuff and read about it. I wouldn't have thought I liked "boozy" smells but I love Pasha de Cartier parfum which everyone says is very boozy so it turns out I actually do like it. Same with barbershop, I tried at the barbershop and it turned out to be my favorite from the discovery set.
I thought I'd like fruity and sweet smells but I don't at all, they aren't bad I just feel like they don't wear well on me. I was right about not liking tobacco but still gave a few tobacco scents a chance. Strange because I quit smoking and use a tobacco vape flavor but I don't like wearing it.

It's easier to describe a fragrance by vibe than by actual notes. Whenever I pass by a juniper tree, I am reminded that the smell of "juniper" in fragrances rarely matches real juniper. Most lavender doesn't smell like lavender yet every fougere claims to have it (Invasion Barbare is the only stuff that smells like actual lavender mixed with lavender oil to me). It's hard to describe chemicals which by now might even be entirely "made up" with no natural counterpart. My SOTD is Eau des Baux - a spicy opening, but is it cardamom and pink pepper? Not really. It's spicy and a bit peppery, for sure, but that's it. Is the drydown cypress and incense? Not really. Vanilla and tonka bean? There's certainly vanilla, but tonka bean feels like one of those "random" notes like "amber" by now, even though it technically means coumarin. I could say it smells like Christmas, but so does Egoiste or SWY Absolutely, just in a different way. It's just an easy way to describe something, except for maybe civet since that's an actual note.

Depends, that's the problem, they don't or have too many different ones. I know americans are a bit trendy in terms of using or consuming a single thing but the fact they think everyone does makes the descriptions more bizarre. A barbershop smell to me is floor cleaner and hair, not an actual frag, a dirty pajeet will have another scent profile with the barbershops, same with a turk.
>pure soap has a smell by itself
Agreed, it does, but many frags i've tried don't have it despite being called soapy. Shower gel-ish is another criminal term, those things have tons of smells too, pure shower gel i have never seen, not even the medical neutral pH ones.

Classic boring blue synthetic compliment puller. This one has some nice floral notes and for.some reason this frag has a strange whimsical quality where it floats around you lightly like magical gypsy l. Probably my most complicated frag. You will recognize the smell even if you're not into fragrances.

So... Aventus or some expensive blue frag? you are not giving me much here, tons of businessmen wear anything as long as it smells.
If you meant a top-hat executive then which kind? the senior or the junior? the former will use Drakkar and the latter Sauvage.
If you want a REAL businessman that fucks everyone in the butt and drives a 2000 Bentley Arnage because he hates nu-Bentley while drinking japanese whiskey then Cartier Santos, pre-2018 if you can but the new one isn't that far away from being the wood bomb.

>>17471755
>JOOP! is for beta males
You are looking at the frag wrong, it's a smell to catch girls who like sweet things, not to be used for pleasure.
Only the retarded don't understand this, then again only idiots wear something they don't like for brownie social points.

>>17471874
They jumped 20% for me

Minimum wage went up internationally and global recession made Q1 adjust their shit in most markets. Hence why food costs significantly more since a week ago.

I’m depressed, bros. I was just starting to get into frags big time - got really fascinated by all the variety and artistry that goes into it. Then I decided to get this for like $10 including shipping and it totally invalidated the rest of my collection. It smells too fucking good, I don’t want to wear anything else.

Is this really all it comes down to? Some thrifty Arabs copying a fantastic scent that doesn’t exist anymore, and then hocking it for less than a pack of cigarettes? Why would I ever spend serious money on fragrances again?

Ngl I was a bit disappointed. It's a frag you overspray, 10 sprays are just fine, and you get average modern frag performance. I still recommend it. VPH is still weaker, and Chanel Allure Homme Sport is as powerful. Go for it, it goes for nothing these days in Europe, wait for discounts, 100 ml bottle for 25 bucks.
>>17471977
See, the remarkable difference between me and Bois Imperial shills is that I only made very few posts praising it for its quality. I didn't spam and I didn't shove forced memes about it. I didn't need to, everyone picked up on how good it is and no one has yet to say a bad thing about it. BI shills exasperated everyone into trying it and a fair amount disliked it. Dakar won, and effortlessly too.

Fragrance prices are all over the place right now. Technically they should be going down, but some are going down a lot, others are going up a lot. Can't explain that.

>>17472022
Because many people already had Dakar (me included). Drakkar Noir is a great frag.

>> No.17472059

>>17472022
to be fair the smell of drakkar noir is much more easier to like than BI. people know what it smells like and usually the only complaint is that it smells dated or like shower gel (as its used in duschdas). BI is much more out there
