Even premium stores would suck unless you are a speed smeller, too many competing fragrances. They are premium for a reason, but you can make it cheaper by using their loyalty schemes, let's take this store:
>you can order 5 samples, 5 EUR each
>they also offer 2-4 free samples in the description box
>KEY POINT: you can use what you paid for samples as a discount for when you decide to buy a full bottle
>also tons of discovery sets that may be cheaper

You really haven't smelled Sauvage then. This always happens in this thread. People claim to know a fragrance when in reality they have zero clue. I bought it and was very disappointed after the hype. To me it just smells more like a citrusy chemical by-product than a scent which has been designed. I felt like I'd just rolled in floor cleaner.

I do have Eau Sauvage Parfum which I think is great, no idea how closely related 2015 Sauvage is to it.

>> No.17464710

>>17464686
See, that's what I mean. You claim you have blind-bought some juice you can find at every store. You then continue to claim it smells like citrus, while everybody who smelled it will tell you it has a synthetic pepper blast opening and not really citrus. Also is it floor cleaner or supermarket shower gel now? Gonna need the name of either because I'm gonna Sauvagemaxx this entire place if there's a Sauvage floor cleaner.
And then you hit me with the actual citrus frag - no clue what I can say anymore.

I'm going to give a few first impressions of some samples I bought last week, I still need to try them more , but I dont think my opinion will change much after wearing them more:

>Baccarat rouge 540

Starts overtly sweet and synthetic, but once it dries down the sweetness fades away a bit and I start feeling it metallic and medicinal. I smell a lot of iodine and blood. I can get the cotton candy that everyone talks about if I really think about it when I smell it, but for me it's just blood, iodine and bandages. And for some reason, I might be a fucking perv, but I love it and I might consider buying it.

8.5

-Secretions magnifiques

Interesting meme fragrance, I bought the sample just out of curiosity and to me it smells like milk and a dog after a rain. A female friend that tried it with me liked it and she said it was really fresh and fruity to her and that she thought she could wear it no problem. A party experience fragrance more than anything.

>jubilation XXV
Smells like incense and raisins. I had a lot do expectations but it's a boring , simple , old smelling fragrance on my nose, and the performance is not that great. For me it's a worse interlude.

5.5/10

>Interlude 53

Sweeter interlude with similar performance. It loses a bit of its appeal with that sweetness but it's 90% the same fragrance. Good but redundant

8/10

>Aventus

The pineapple is rich and crisp on the opening and the fruit smells so nice that is almost gourmandish. On the drydown all the fruits go less sweet and the smoke comes in.

It's nice but it lasts less than one hour and a half on my skin and projects almost zero. Club de nuit intense limited edition is cheaper, and arguably better. The opening is worse, way worse, but the drydown while still different from the drydown of aventus is closer to that opening.

6.5/10 , the opening is one of the best I tried, the rest is dissappointing.

Parfum is way sweeter, vanillic and boozy with the gasoline violet of the OG mixed in, the EDT is more focused on that violet DNA and leather. Think of the parfum as the sweet night flanker of the OG: not completely different, it's simply a flanker better suited for different occasions.

>Xerjoff naxos

Incredibly rough opening that dries down into a really sweet dense inoffensive tobacco -honey-vanille blend. It's delicious but i wish it wasn't that sweet on the dry down, it can get a bit boring. Great performance

7.5/10

>Reflection man

One of the best white floral fragrances I've ever tried. The opening is heavenly and the dry down smells like the purest freshest jasmine you could ever smell early morning during spring. Not a fan of the peppery aspect of it, but it's really subtle, so it doesn't bother me much. Will probably get a bottle once the weather starts getting warmer.

9.5/10

>L'air du desert moroccain

I love the heart of the desert and I think this one is even better. The white florals are more present(I'm a sucked for neroli and jasmine) and the woodiness of it it's more creamy without getting sweet. On my nose it's like a room of an humid old house filled with white flowers, books and expensive wood furniture. Like waking up as a kid in your grandma's house. It's beautiful but it's not really versatile.
Just for special occasions.

9.5/10

>Molecule 01

Smells like burnt sunflower seeds and cardboard. The smell comes and goes (I guess your nose gets blind quickly ) and it lasts a lot but the scent is subtle and frankly, I don't see the point of wearing this.

5/10 because it smells nice, but it's almost not a fragrance. I haven't tried layering it yet.

>Bois imperial

Beautiful creamy woodiness on the opening that dissappears once it dries down and all you get after that is vetiver. Dissappointed because I expected something else, but it's not bad and it performs well. I smell some hints of mint, but it might be my nose.

7/10

Bottle is definitely plastic but it feels solid in hand. The whole thing feels heavier than some of my other frags of similar liquid volume that are in a glass bottle.
The band on mine is glued to the main body.

Polo and Jacomo are completely different. Polo Green is pine-y, vaguely tobacco-y wood. Jacomo is an initial rubber note followed by a kind of goth-y clove bomb.

One is something an old man would wear at church (for good or for ill) another is something you’d wear under a black leather jacket.

Regardless I’d go for the Halston

For me it's as close to a perfect fragrance as it gets. It opens very similar to Layton but a bit smoother and stays liek this for a couple of minutes. Then it starts to significantly diverge. The next 2-3 hours are heavily dominated by harsh and dry woods, ouds and some animalic notes (civet supposedly). You can also pick up some rose and very faint coffee. As it dries down it starts moving closer to the original Layton with the sweeter vanilla note becoing more prominent and you can tell it's the same DNA but, as there's no apple, thankfully it never transforms into apple pie scent. Ngl - especially in the mid part - it can a bit like vinegar pringles - you wouldn't say you like it but still keep coming back for more

Hey /fa/gs, im just now getting into fragrances. At the moment I only have perry Ellis pure blue (nothing special) and JPG le male le parfum (very nice), and I’m looking for a summer fragrance I can use while working in Houston, TX. I work outside, so it’s gonna be hot and muggy during the summer and I want a good fragrance that isn’t gonna cause nausea to myself or the people on my crew.
The perry ellis works pretty good as a general fragrance so it might work good here but I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for sporty frags that don’t overpower in the heat. Price isn’t an issue.

Winter frags can turn out to be a bit suffocating in the heat summer

>> No.17466284

>>17466266
To some degree, yes. Cold weather will cool your skin and cause your fragrance to not emit as much until you warm back up. Getting soaked enough from rain will dampen (figuratively and literally) your scent as it washes away. Strong, continuous wind will aerate the vapours that come off you.

Ideal conditions weather-wise are any hotter temperatures that make you feel comfortably warm - enough to help your fragrance evaporate and project more, but not so much that you're radiating. Early summer when you're in low 20s/mid to high 70s will be ideal.

With that said, seasonal frags are not a meme. Wearing heavy frags in summer daytime will be too intense and heavy; think drinking a rich hot chocolate on a summer's day.

I agree with the first part. Since the refomulation, Detour Noir is a bit further away from Layton. It used to be 1:1 the same as my sample of some random Layton batch. Performance was still good after the reformulation, though, and I have no doubt that they then further diluted it. Gonna enjoy my OG DN bottle as long as possible. It was 14 bucks. I wouldn't buy this juice at 30, because that feels like a ripoff.
The second part about the Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu suggests to me that they filled the OG DN formulation into one of the Amber Oud bottles (because the DN bottle is trash) and are now selling it for an even higher price. Even clone juice is a fucking rip-off nowadays.

It's ok but I do think that a lot of people are marking it so high just because they are afraid of admiting they don't like it (just like me saying it's ok so I can feel superior to both groups)

Actually - let's discuss other prevalent "opinions" in the community that seem more like peer pressure than actual honest opinions.

Number 1 is definitely acting like you no longer care about Aventushdgnp8

Disliking Sauvage. It smells pretty great, it's just a victim of its own popularity.

Stfu it's fantastic, though I feel like the flint note really stands out for me.

reee aventus smells nice
even the different batches

dunno, for me it is Etra from Etro, Black Afgano, Baraonda, Hermes H24 EDP, some Chanels and basically all Issey Miyake male frags cuz why not?

do this:
1. start with the guides at the top
2. choose something that looks interesting/way out of your comfort zone/has a nice bottle/whatever
3. buy samples/test at a local frag store
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!!!

>but may make you smell like a dad
It smells manly, not your gourmand homosexuality for zoomers.
Speaking of which Cartier Pasha got its base notes eliminated and the Parfum version smells like a decomposing butter candy with a tiny bit of scotch.
I hate modern frags and modern reformulations, i want earthy oakmoss notes back in my bottles.

Haven't smelled the Gold one, but the Silver one is great.

>>17467594
Absolutely not. I've grabbed many samples which I have never gotten into or sprayed them again at a store, only to find out I still don't like them.

>>17467600
Terre d'Hermes and TdH Parfum are guilty of the above. I don't like them and I don't like any vetiver-forward fragrances of that type. I've tested them again and I still don't, hoping that one day it would just "click". Never did.

>>17467677
Smells even fruitier. No point in testing the Parfum if someone already doesn't like base TdH.
