On my seamaster I have 3 links+no half links each side and I had to use the quick adjust fully tightened and it fell down my wrist. 2 links+2 half links is too tight without full microadjust, so I had to do 3 links on the 12 o'clock side and 2 links+1 single half link on the 6 o'clock side and I can sit in the middle of the microadjust, tighten if my wrist shrinks or expand when my wrist bloats.

The good thing is that there are so many used speedmasters you can find quite a few at that price. The average OK condition professional is about 4-4.5k but reduced and old racing ones go from 2k to 4k. This one has the new movement which is supposedly more robust and has hacking and a nicer bracelet. To me that was worth the extra vs a used 4.5k 1861 movement, since the movement will probably need servicing a few years later down the line+I have a full warranty

A better analogy would be that it's like wearing a blue two piece suit when you aren't a former military officer, or it's like wearing 1980s olympic track shoes when you didn't run for the olympic team in the 1980s, or it's like wearing a baseball cap when you aren't a professional baseball player. I just want to buy a couple of decent watches to see if I really use them. If I like to wear them, I'll buy nicer ones for sure as I enjoy having quality products.
For the moment I only want to have other thing than the pixel watch around my wrist, since I want to avoid screens when worktime is over.
Thanks for your advice.

OG reply, trust me, if you're started dressing your age, sound like you have a little money or you'd be happy in a hoodie and jean and if you enjoy quality.

You will resell a used Tag or used Omega must easier than an Orient or whatever shitter, they will hold value better too, the people buying of you will be middle class and should be easier to deal with. The Omega will most likely go up in value the longer you hold it.

Just go buy a used Seamaster, I'd say a Speedmaster but that's probably to deep for you starting. If you don't have money get a Seiko Turtle, mid teir a used Nomos Club.

Well there are tonnes of vintage Seikos in decent condition to be found out there, but you'd have to know what you're looking for exactly, which means you need to do quite some research. If you have no experience with vintage i'd suggest you stay away from them for now and stick to new stuff. Picrel is what you could get for that money but again, research. Also vintage watches are not that accurate and can break more easily so the service costs might be too high. Just buy new for now.

>designer clothes
OP here, you are right, last two years I spent around 5k in clothes and I could pay more for a watch, but I want to see first if I enjoy wearing it before spending 2/3k. Why?
Storytime: 6 years ago I start enjoying perfumery, then I discovered and start buying oud and attars, which are an amazing experience, but I got more dislikes than compliments (oud smells too weird for some people) and I ended up wearing them at home (rarely because wife doesn't enjoy most of them) or outdoors. Nowadays Bleu de Chanel is my signature fragrance, smells pretty clean and it's a mass pleaser. My oud collection worth probably next to 6/7k and I barely use them. I won'f fall in the same trap with watches.
>inb4: mass pleaser normie

You would't fall in the same trap as watches are very liquid, that said some Oud frandatise resell well.

You can go to watch shop and sell watch to retail stores / dealer. Like of Rolex you'll most likely get what you paid for it depending on the model and you can do well on them.

Winter: Dior homme parfum, spice bomb extreme,
Rest of the year Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio Profumo, small collection of 10 or so bottles. I stick to mostly designer stuff, I can't be assed ordering samples for niche brands and I know it's a slippy slop, so yea I get ya.

I always end up going back to one of my F-91W's because they are all I really need.
Someone mentioned the F105, which is basically an A168 with a plastic strap.
Yeah, it's got a better backlight, but I like the super slim profile of the F-91W.

you have pretty good taste for a guy new to the hobby, Orient are a great company - a sub-division of Seiko - and their Star line has some rather excellent models
that piece in particular is what's known as a 'field watch', the idea being that you can take it into rough and rugged situations and expect it to hold up: it's an older style of tough watch, being somewhat outdated compared to the immensely more hardy casio g-shocks, but for a classic stylish look that you can trust to take some battering in daily life, while still presentable for the office, field watches are excellent
(and that particular model in your pic is very well proportioned, with an understated style)

you might also want to look into 'sports watches' which tend to be a little more dressy, or 'tool-watches/divers' for extra functionality

Hamilton has been using that fount since the 1950s actually (around the same time as Braun went full mid-modern).

The brand has an interesting story. The tl;dr is Hamilton was a US watchmaker out of Lancaster, PA for a hundred years, and bought Gruen (a Swiss manufacturer) right before the Quartz Crisis, they moved everything to Switzerland just in time for the watch crash, and were bought by Swatch Group.

It's a dive watch, no one actually gives a shit about them, ontop of that the pelagos is a purely utilitarian watch, I'm sure a black bay might have gotten you a compliment or 2 but the truth is unless it's gaudy, gold, a skeleton watch, a shiny casio or the newest iwatch no one cares.

You're payhing about 25 euros for a stainless steel bracelet and the chrome plating on a F91. Depends on the rest of your fashionable clothes and overall aesthetic if chrome and silver metal will pair well with it compared to black plastic/rubber on your wrist.

If you spend extra money to buy a mechanical over a quartz, it is because you appreciate the craftsmanship of movements... right?
So, is there any point in buying a watch that has a mass-produced ETA or similar movement? Shouldn't you just get all or nothing? That is, either a quartz or an in-house made movement?
