Ultimately the mid-range doesn't make sense to me, it can only exist for those who want to get snobbish about $300 watches being for plebs but don't have the capital to express their admiration got haute horology fully. By no means am I saying there's no good watches at the mid-range, but I just don't think they're miles ahead of the best entry level watches and honestly quartz is just more practical than a generic ETA clone movement while being no less soulless.

For me, I'll stick with my quartz Tissot until I can justify the cost of a watch that actually does something unique and interesting with its mechanical movement.

Depends on the model. The Big Pilot? Yeah, those things are next level despite being too large for 90% of watch nerds.
The Mark series? No, but there is 3-4x difference. IWC uses Sellita movements but adds finishing to them so they at least look nice (but no display back for some reason), they are adjusted in 5 positions by IWC, the finishing is miles better, and they're IWC which is a brand whose name carries weight in the watch world.
Laco and Stowa make ugly fliegers with boring dials and stock ETA movements (not a bad thing, they are easily serviceable and reliable, but not special), are not adjusted in 5 positions and the finishing is poor to non-existent
