Nah, at that price you're getting
>Finishing not significantly improved over $500 level
>Many watches at this level are microbrands which won't be able to keep your watch serviced with parts long term
>All movements are invariably just soulless mass produced copies of an ETA auto that will probably just get thrown away instead of serviced
>Many designs are just homages to more expensive watches

Ultimately the mid-range doesn't make sense to me, it can only exist for those who want to get snobbish about $300 watches being for plebs but don't have the capital to express their admiration got haute horology fully. By no means am I saying there's no good watches at the mid-range, but I just don't think they're miles ahead of the best entry level watches and honestly quartz is just more practical than a generic ETA clone movement while being no less soulless.

For me, I'll stick with my quartz Tissot until I can justify the cost of a watch that actually does something unique and interesting with its mechanical movement.

Depends on the model. The Big Pilot? Yeah, those things are next level despite being too large for 90% of watch nerds.
The Mark series? No, but there is 3-4x difference. IWC uses Sellita movements but adds finishing to them so they at least look nice (but no display back for some reason), they are adjusted in 5 positions by IWC, the finishing is miles better, and they're IWC which is a brand whose name carries weight in the watch world.
Laco and Stowa make ugly fliegers with boring dials and stock ETA movements (not a bad thing, they are easily serviceable and reliable, but not special), are not adjusted in 5 positions and the finishing is poor to non-existent

I recently inherited my grandpa's watch. My last interaction with him was linked with this watch because he asked me to pierce more holes in the strap with my swiss army knife because he had lost too much weight and the watch kept flipping on his wrist. He probably died with it too.

My grandma switched the strap before giving to me, but it originally had some kind of metal bracelet. I might buy a black croc strap for it.

If I'm correct, you'll want the thinnest possible NATO.
The clearance between that pin and the case is tiny.
1mm would be ideal.
I know you can get that thickness from Watch Gecko and also Blue Shark.
Just look at "technical specifications" or something to that effect.

Watch reviews are always so fucking stupid. It's always "this is a real tool watch for real tool things" as if people actually use watches for anything other than jewelry. Imagine the average person. Average intelligence, average upbringing, and average everything. Now realize half of the world's population is dumber than the average person. Theres a reason we have warning labels on toasters and hair dryers advising not to use them in the bath tub. Its because there are morons that don't have any common sense.

Now you have to manually remember those same windowlicking mouth breathing smooth brains have an internet connection, possibly more money than you, and feel the need to voice their opinion about something they bought through a review.

Seiko has simply updated GS to appeal to white vulgarians' ideas of a good watch. It's funny because whites sought JDM "for Japan only" watches thinking they were the best, but their market research revealed that whites don't want the best, because they don't even know what's best. What they want is what influencers *tell them* is the best. GS is now the common sportsball-watching meat and potatoes joe six pack Seiko. Essentially it's Made In Japan Invicta. A "man's" watch but really made for the eye of a 12 year old boy. Blingy bling bling 42mm with "look at me" textures everywhere. What happened to Seiko is what happened to Italian wine after Americans discovered it. The circle of life.

Don't cry about it though, if you want a watch for adults don't worry Seiko still has got you covered, it's a brand called Credor, non attention getting in a way that is utterly alien to the sportsball fan, no whites need apply. Thank me later.

I've been thinking about what changed a lot, and besides what you mentioned, I think it has something to do with tone...
Like, before 2017, I'm thinking more before Trump and Qanon, there was a lot more levity. A lot of the same opinions were being expressed, but when you called someone a fag and told them to kys, it was from a position of joking around, more like friends. Now the same words are used and opinions are expressed but in a more pointed way, less like a guys locker room and more like the lead up to a bar fight.

Well from my recollection this largely started around Gamergate, there was just this change from "anonymous" trolling big corporations/organisations in dumb but funny ways to just wailing on one individual based on a rumour.

I mean for sure SJWs kind of brought on themselves with the theatrics to draw attention, but the trolling in Gamergate wasn't trolling, it was just outright harassment and tormenting of one person and likely was the scenario was the first introduction to 4chan many of the early 20s anons had to "chan culture" at a fairly impressionable age. They weren't drawn to 4chan over silly images/gifs, funny catchphrases and westernised Japanese internet culture. They were attracted to people who had the genuine intent to see someone suffer publicly for not "knowing their place" in "their" subculture of gaming.

I'm sure there's more to it, but this neo-normieism that exist on 4chan these days, as in anons have an opinion about what should be "normal" for 4chan and consider all else to be degenerate and/or "reddit" always reminds me of Gamergate.

Hahahaha when the meme is real. Holy shit. Keep taking 4chins seriously. Never change, poltard. And remember, no matter what problems you face in life, it was invariably the fault of the Jews and your own incompetence had nothing to do with it.

anyone own a max bill junghans? Mainly interested in the auto 3 hander. Not sure if I want to get the date version or not since the one without it still has a ghost position for it.

The SARX035 was never $300. It was always a JDM product and was always $800+. You're probably thinking of the SARB and/or making shit up.

I like this one, it just generally looks clean with the only improvement by removing the WEEKDATER DIASHOCK 30 JEWS and re-centering Seiko eve on the 9 oclock plane. The Indices look good and give the dial depth.

This one again has the depth indices and the dial texure is fantastic but that center bar with the writing and the unusual day window is cumbersome.

With most companies doing throwbacks, remakes, and retro homages, why not just look back in their own catalog and re-make some of them?
