Yo guys I'm very confused. I recently went to my local douglas (like notino) and copped some Encre Noire, since everyone itt talks about it. I got the small bottle, which was around 20 bucks (no discount). Now I'm browsing some online EU store for a different fragrance you guys recommended, since I can't find it locally. I was just checking things out and the Encre Noire there is 80 bucks for the small bottle. Like what? Hello?

Don't, if you want Polo Green go with the vintage. The vintage and recent formulation are totally different. Recent Polo Green smells like sweet urinal cake. Old Polo green citrusy, smoky, woody, spicy.
It would be Niche today.
Dior Jules or Loewe Esencia edt might be more faithful to the original Polo Green.
If you want something modern go with St Giles with The Tycoon, musky smoky citruses with oakmoss, has the same feel like Aventus, but more more serious.

Incredible comparison.

Sauvage is created to be attractive to as many people as possible

Rien is a perfumer's perfume. Don't wear Rien if you're looking for mass appeal.

Sauvage is infinitely more "office friendly", but that doesn't mean it's better, just that there's less of a chance someone will dislike it.

I don't know the old performance as the other guy does, but I know the EdP. In all honesty, the EdT is way better than the EdP when it comes to the smell. The vanilla does not compliment this type of chypre, at all. I've found many chypres I like, but every chypre with vanilla in it just smells like cheesecake to me. Church guy here. Been using EdB since 2018 and performance is average to good. You can't expect a Tom Ford scent bubble at this price point, but I spray from 3 to 5 times (neck, wrists and chest) and people smell it after a few hours.
My opinion differs from >>17440855, I don't get the Christmas vibes with this frag. The opening is a medicinal herbal spice masterpiece. It feels like a healing potion in a good way. The drydown (after two hours) is a subtle incense and vanilla, but not obvious or sweet vanilla (I hate vanilla note in scents like Tobacco Vanille) but relaxing and subtle.
If you are over 30, just get it. It's original, classy and you won't regret. It's also a cheapo and in get's better with time. When I finished my first bottle the smell was so much better than the one I smelled in the new one. Same happened when I bought my third bottle.

Bois Impérial is the attempt of Quentin Bisch to create a fragrance based around Akigalawood. An extract of patchouli which lacks the daring components of it,but it's lighter, woodier, slightly musky.
But Mr. Bisch added pepper and basil to the concoction which makes it unbelievable unique, likeable and addicting. Literally every time i walk by a women they inherently smile. Fantastic fragrance experience.
But i'm a fragrance snob too, always was into foresty, green, woody scents. I tried them all, the hyped ones, Norne, Cape Heartache, Murkwood, Bowmakers, you name it. Bois Imperial defeats them due to it's photorealistic scent atmosphere in a forest. It's that fantastic. Now adding in the price, longevity and natural ingredients, we can safely say that Bois Imperial is the perfect scent.

>>17440976
I told him that I wanted a dry woody scent, with non-obvious fresh top notes and an amazing sillage that wouldn’t be too overwhelming. Bois Impérial holds a special place in my heart, since it was done in memory of my Vietnamese grandmother. She was from the city of Huê, the Imperial City of Vietnam, and met my grandfather during the Indochina war, on the bridge of the “Perfume River”. We worked a lot on the scent, but what I was looking for was always clear in my mind – clear as a picture. I would see a man in a very simple floating house on the Mekong river – chic, wearing a simple beige linen suit and hat, leaning against the house, watching the river… This is the image that Quentin translated into scent for Essential Parfums Bois Impérial.”

Perfumer Quentin Bisch confirmed that Akigalawood® is a material he enjoys using, when I pointed out that it was prominently featured in another wonderful scent created by him, Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede: “I love the ingredient’s multi-faceted diversity; after using it in a mineral, leathery, mossy fragrance like Ganymede, I was thrilled to showcase it as a star note in a fresh, fluid woody fragrance. Akigalawood is an upcycled material derived from Givaudan’s Indonesian sustainable patchouli oil. Its smell is reminiscent of freshly crushed black pepper and wet forest soil; I enhanced its warmth, woodiness and earthiness with vetiver from Haïti, as well as with its “father” ingredient, patchouli from Indonesia

>>17441005
Essential Parfums Bois Impérial opens with the instantly captivating, addictive woodiness of Akigalawood® enhanced by two other beautiful ingredients: sparkling Timur pepper from Nepal and the perfumer’s own Thai basil accord. Both these components ideally create the desired effect of exotic, moist woodiness, and seamlessly link the spicy and fresh aspects of Akigalawood®: Timur pepper is a spice with yuzu/pink grapefruit undertones, while Thai basil possesses characteristic anisic spiciness and lemony freshness. Givaudan’s patented captive Petalia® adds elegance to the fragrance’s heart with its abstract, geranium/peony-like floralcy, while the woodiness acquires more body and depth with the emergence of green Haitian vetiver and tobacco-hued Indonesian patchouli. Next to being a resolutely contemporary and highly enjoyable fragrance, Essential Parfums Bois Impérial is also remarkable for its diffusiveness, about which Mr. Bisch told me: “The vetiver cœur blended with super long-lasting Petalia® keeps the freshness growing into the fragrance’s heart, and even further. Eventually, Ambrofix™ [i.e. Givaudan’s highly powerful ambery note, produced via fermentation from cane sugar] brings diffusion, and structures the woodiness in a modern way, aided by Georgywood® [i.e. a Givaudan synthetic fraction comparable to Iso E Super for its fixative power and clean/woody scent]. I aimed to keep my formula relatively short and direct, in accordance with the brand’s name – in other words, keep it ESSENTIAL”.

Essential Parfums Bois Impérial took me for a much-needed fantasy voyage to the otherworldly beauty of Vietnam – to misty rainforests and limestone islands rising above the emerald waters. And then back to teenage cinematic memories of 1992, when both “Indochine” and “L’Amant” hit the big screen: Vincent Pèrez in his white French Navy uniform sailing around Huê, and Tony Ka Fai Leung in his white suit leaning over the Mekong river…

I wouldnt say that, Terre D'hermes is just vetiver, when a fragrance has vetiver in it the vetiver tends to be REALLY fucking strong

No. In my experience, cold weather scents get a bit deeper and stronger in their base notes with time. I buy directly at l'occitane and their batches are new and fresh, so after almost 2 years using a bottle, the fragrance smells more profound.
It happen the opposite with freshies, 4/5 years ago I bought Verbena, a citrusy from l'occitane, and this summer the freshness was completely washed out.

Mate! It's a cliché but Drakkar Noir is amazing. You could also try Dakar oil which has been getting me a monstrous amount of compliments lately. Ultimately it depends on your personal aesthetic because I've always found that you should match your fragrance to your outfit/aesthetic. Maximum versatility scents would be Drakkar Noir, Cool Water, Versace Eros (go easy on the sprays if in an office setting or in really hot weather), or if you're on a super tight budget you could go for an ultra cheap but solidly performing bottle of Nike Man Ultra Blue (sort of smells like Versace Eau Fraiche which is another versatile fragrance you should consider). Avoid Lynx/Axe like the plague.

Hey ya'll, I'm really new to Fragrance and was hoping the fragrance pros here would be able to point me in the right direction for exploring more fragrances.

I'm 23, Male, my friends call me a walking contradiction because I dress kinda preppy, OCBDs, crewneck sweaters, but yet they say I have a kinda punk rock skater personality, unrefined. Not sure if that matters since generally I don't really pick a fragrance to suit my personality, but just something that I think smells great and isn't too polarizing, semi-broad appeal.

I absolutely FUCKIN LOVE Philsoykos by Diptyque. Wish it had a little more sillage, but it's okay since I'm usually in close quarters with people. It's my chosen Summer/Spring fragrance, not sure if it's be suited to hanging out with friends or going to church, which are my main times I'm out and about, but yeah I fuckin live it from top to dry down.

I'm looking for recommendations for a Fall/Winter fragrance. I'm not really sure which notes or accords I love/hate since I'm really new, but here's a quick rundown of what I've sampled:

I tried Musc Ravageur, mixed about the top, was ADDICTED to the middle and base.

Im not totally sure, but I think I had somewhat of a dislike for the top of Guerlain's Mitsuoko, too... bitter maybe? Dry down is nice.

I tried Guerlain's Vetiver Edt, just kind of unmemorable, didn't seem to last very long on me at all, or at least very faint. Maybe I didn't spray enough? Or maybe skin chemistry? Or maybe just nose blind to dry down notes?

I might have to try Encre Noir again, but I just remember not liking the top at all.

That's all I've sampled. Do ya'll have a diagnosis for what kind of stuff I like, or where I should look next? I would really appreciate.

What are the chances the prices will start going up seeing how it's discontunued? I mean it's been for some time and it's still widely available for cheap.

How much of a performance hit do most fragrances take if sprayed on clothes? Would spraying on a part of clothing that heats up the most help? Opinions on best spots to spray on clothes?

When I spray it on my clothes it seems to last longer
Im not sure if it projects less or anything though, it seems fine

I've heard it lasts longer on clothes but I imagine there's a lot of variance person to person and number of sprays. I don't notice a difference myself. trial and error is the only one way to know

if i put on my shirt and then spray perfume in my pits, it stays on the shirt until its washed. like, not just when you stick your nose to the fabric you can actually smell it within friendly distance. hell even if i spray my arms and then put a sweater on over it that smell stays around for weeks, same with bedsheets and stuff.

Synthetics. I had a sample of their leather that I liked. Their oud has something that I don’t like.
