Idk man - I made an enough money that the Tudor Black Bay I like would be <5% of my salary after tax even and I still don’t know if I’ll buy it. I hate spending money on myself, and frankly I still feel too young to wear one. Wearing an actual Rolex would just feel ridiculous to me, like showing up to the office wearing an Hermes tie or something.

Try getting into crypto or nfts. Worth a try. I unironically know a guy from romania snd he makes good money with that shit. But hey, I also know like 8 guys who lost major cash, so dunno. If not, I bet some telecommunication companies always need phone/chat monkeys, admins.
Also, like I said, reevaluate yourself. If you are not dissabled, you probably can get a simple irl job. And why are you afraid of paperwork?

And sure, you can be a postman if you have family, if you have a wife with a job, if you inherited property (which a majority of the people did), and then you still live a shitty existence not worth living. I don't have any of that. Every expense for a single man is double, if I wanted to spend 90% of the postman salary on a place to live on, it would be the same kind of place I could live in with a girlfriend and then it would be just 45%... but no one wants a disfigured person do they.

150k aus, ah you can afford it, it holds it value better than most things you own. My rule is if you interact with something every day it's worth spending money on it.

Also don't rush so pay off your mortgage, it's the cheapest money you will ever get. You could be investing your when you are young.

You still have blue collar head on your shoulders, from your parents. When you are 40 and you have a net worth over a 1 mil, you will still drive a shitter? nicer house in a better area? >nice area in Australia, I could be nicer, better schools / area for your kid so they don't have wee dicks as friends.

My father was like that, mils in the bank. Scared to spend money, thought he live forever.......

If you can afford to, finance it, I know many here will look down on that but at 0% interest by the time you save for it they will be 8k+ depending on how long it takes you and what you make. I think Cartier is meant to be having a price increase early 2023.

Enjoy life a little, don't blow your money (I don't think you're going to) whatever you buy in life do so smart and you'll be okay, like a used Lotus / older 911 is better than a new BMW, all the same money but the BMW -50% in a few years. The Datejust will always be worth 70% of what you paid and in 10 years it will be more than what you paid (Rolex price hikes), better than in the bank rotting away anyway >software engineer you prob invest (good), and you get to enjoy and wear it and your kids will (have more than one, family) will see what working hard gets, nothing wrong with a wealth trigger.

>Any tips or advice on getting into IT man?

Depending on where you're from, the hardest part is getting your foot in the door when it comes to entry level work. Without a degree or some other qualifications, you will find it extremely hard to get an engineering job.

Ideally you should study, work on personal projects, and most importantly for you, go to local meetups and make friends. That will help you out big time because you can't use credentials to get an interview.

>>17431347
>do you have any opinion of doing infra stuff DevOps and the like instead of software?
absolutely nothing wrong with devops however I think the ceiling is somewhat lower than the software or data side of things. One observation i found is that devops managers are usually less experienced than software/data/etc. managers which indicates that there aren't as many people doing it which is a good sign however i could be wrong, just an observation.

mate, I wouldn't worry too much about what the actual smart/successful people are doing. It is extremely easy to snuggle your way into a bullshit somewhat IT job like an Sysadmin or Business analyst, you can start of in IT support, get a few certs, it's easy. And it pays pretty well even from entry level. Nobody is going to like this but if you are starting from absolutely nothing a support role in a call centre is a good start, you only have to do it for about 1 year and your easily within 6 figures after pivoting and bullshitting your experience in interviews. You can learn to code if you want, but you don't have to if all you want is a cushy 40 hour a week job and a high enough salary that you can drop a few k on a watch you like without sweating a bullet.

What possible job could you jump to in IT from being in a call center? I can't imagine bridging that kind of gap, especially to get something cushy or high paying.

using VMs and Linux will help you bigly, if you cert up in Linux and Virtualisation like VMWare you could get a systems engineer role which is pretty cushy and pays well.
In terms of moving to management it is a thing, you would move to management of a service desk team first then to more technical teams application support or whatever area you are good at, I have seen it happen. >In terms of moving to management it is a thing, you would move to management of a service desk team first then to more technical teams application support or whatever area you are good at, I have seen it happen.
I'd be somewhat amazed if I could make that move after one year but we'll see. I find it hard to see how answering calls from people makes someone management material.

help /wt/, i want to buy a sports watch but i can't decide. i'm stuck between the following 3 (or 5 if you separate the reference numbers) very different models, but feel free to suggest anything that might be worth considering based on my preferences and comments:

rolex explorer (either 1016 or 124270): i've always liked the explorer but i find the version differences to be a huge issue. the 1016 has a more noble and stately dials, but finding one in good condition is near impossible and they are definitely more boring with the lack of the white gold borders. the 124270 is more exciting and flashy, but they do come off as a little immature in comparison. also, i already have my dad's vintage 36mm datejust, so an explorer may overlap too much with that.

rolex gmt (either 16710 or 126710): this one is practical because im always living between 2 timezones, but i am also not sure about how to approach modern vs vintage here. the 126710 is again, more blingy in finish, but has the more subdued bezel colors. the 16710 has the super saturated bezel which looks beautiful in pictures but i dont know if it would be too loud on the wrist. the font issues with the explorer apply here too. i also dislike how the GMT master is sort of a status symbol for the nouveau riche, but it's not quite as bad as with the daytona where it's really kind of an insufferable watch.

omega constellation globemaster: probably the nicest omega watch in their current catalogue, it has a really nice blue dial unlike the rolexes (i would lean towards a blue dial watch if possible). my concerns would be that the design may not be as timeless as the rolexes and it feels like a watch i may outgrow in the next decade, and i just think association with the omega brand name taints it because frankly every popular omega model fills me with disgust. also it has a transparent caseback on a machine finished watch which is a bit embarrassing. the movement isnt good enough to warrant that.

thoughts?

You guys do realize that instead of buying a 150 dollar seiko every month, you could just lease a rolex for the same amount?

From left to right:
Craft knife: useless
Case opener: functional but you need to be very careful with it to make sure it doesn't slip out on you and scratch your case
Punches: Good for bracelet pin removal. Screw operated press: Also good for bracelet pin removal.
Brush: useless
Oiler: You'll want to polish this
Tweezers: Most likely chinesium
Screwdriver: Looks like a pain in the ass to have to switch out screwdriver bits. You'll also need to learn how to sharpen and dress screwdriver tips.
Presto tool: may be functional it's really hit or miss
Spring bar tool: fine
Hammer: useless
Case opener knife: fine
Movement holder: shite you'll want to get a better one
Bracelet adjustment block: Functional but limited in what it can do based on width of grooves
Spring bars: commodity item

what are some retro blue dial blue bezel dive watches for under 1000?

citizen 'fujitsubo', lorier neptune, seiko sbdc163 (picrel)
are already on my list

you could say I'm looking for an affordable tudor bb58 blue alternative without actually wanting the tudor

Yes. The bezel and styling is different enough to the Rolex that I wouldn't call it an homage, just a gmt with a batman color.

roughly what I thought. that's why I bought just the adjustment block, but it also came with a hammer. why is the hammer useless? desu I was lucky probably: I did it with a piece of wood, a pin remover and a normal hammer and managed not to fuck up the bracelet. Bought the block afterwards because I want to avoid that in the future

Aw fuck me auntie, my head is sore. Must have had an hours sleep. And, get this. There is a diaper in bedroom. Wtf. I have no idea how it got here, but it's not used, so I'll probably keep it.

But what I really wanted to say was, my casio is fine. Not a mark on it. I have been through a war zone of booze last night, and not a mark on it. Hail casio.

Bros. What should I get?

>brand new Rolex Explorer 36mm
>used Rolex Explorer 39mm
>7" wrists

I was leaning towards the 39, but I tried the 36 and it was actually not bad. Not as small as I thought. 39mm is lightly scratched and $12k, a huge ripoff I know. 36mm is $7.5k but at least a year waiting.

What do?

with a year waiting it will be $8.2k probably
