/btg/ - ZERROWS ENGINEERS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I took a picture but did not assume the position.

Color is weird because it's indoors at night.
IRL it looks a bit darker and less yellow, but I haven't seen them in sunlight yet.

My feet are a bit over 28cm by 11cm. I think that makes me like US11.25E (wide) on Brannock.
These are US11E on the Trubalance last which is the biggest/widest/comfiest last Alden has (but the heel is two sizes narrower)

The fit feels exceptional but I would not give final judgment before wearing them at least three times. I like that the toebox is not too tall, there is not a lot of excess height on the vamp. This is rare for my feet. I felt no heel slip at all despite being roomy in the front, also rare.
The last is chunky, it actually protrudes significantly in the big toe area for comfort, but the vamp stitching is a straight line from the laces which hides this fact very well.

The quality of the build feels ok but not special. I am surprised at how rigid the heel stiffener feels, there's no way this is not celastic. Stitching is just okay. It is fully lined. The suede feels ok but not as good as Charles F Stead suede that I also own.

The quality of the finishing is mediocre. The 'storm welt' is a little sloppy but nothing terrible and nothing that would be visible unless closely examined. Stitching is good all around. There was a bit of glue under one of the speedhooks and it has left a small black mark on the suede (visible in the photo on the right boot). I am not going to return them over this, it's high up and on the inside of the boot.

Overall, it's what I thought they would be. Overpriced but you pay for the unique styling. I like it and I hope they are comfy so I can wear them all the time.

very nice, i've been thinking of making an indy clone by carmina. Got it more or less to what i want it to be (also snuff suede), its not quite the same style but it should be close enough to what i want on the llubi last and what I'm really after is the u-tip.

>> No.17426292

>>17426282
Carmina is definitely higher quality despite being much cheaper, I also own a pair of Carmina boots.

But I couldn't get the styling right, Carmina's u-tip has a full-on proper apron which means the stitching protrudes, it's a very different design. I think it will look closer to Grant Stone's u-tip boot.

Indy has a special aesthetic, the numerous eyelets very close together, the shape of the faux apron, the forward slope of the toebox past the apron etc

The last helps too, even Carmina's Soller is pointy by comparison and that's probably their roundest last (I disregard the Llubi because of the clownish bump on the toe). Carmina lasts are all very sleek looking.

I got off the phone with White’s about custom boots, they said if the measurement is incorrect not to worry about it since they’ll just make a new pair until it’s right. Which is fine with me.

nta but personally I just don't like their aesthetics, which for me is more important than saving 10 seconds when putting them on or off.

But I know people don't like that they might compromise the structural integrity of the shaft, the waterproofing issues, and the fact that the zip will inevitably fail several times long before the boot does (unless it's some 50 bucks boot ofc)

So I was planning on getting a pair of heritage boots so I measured my feet so I could get a accurate sizing. Turns out my feet are 270mm(whatever this is in burger) in all three measurements. I know it's a very high price to pay for a pair of Alden boots but all the European stores had them around 750-850 and this was the only store that had a model that I wanted exactly in my size (they only had two sizes left).

PNW boots like White's or Franks are 3lbs of leather. 3mm thick too so you can't machine stitch it. But they're sub-1k USD.

The 1k+ USB boots are using rare leather usually, or are pretentious japshit.

What kind of shoes are you looking for?
I have tried a few different brands

It's important to remember that width is also a function of length, a 9.5EEE might feel exactly like a 10E for example.
Before spending money on EEE shoes make sure you're not just buying needlessly short shoes. A lot of people wear shoes that are too small without knowing it.
It will make your life much easier if this was the case, it's easier to just buy larger sizes instead of trying to find EEE widths. And the shoes look better proportioned too.

Anyway I am not really an EEE but I thought I was. I have a pair of EEE 65's from Allen Edmonds and TLB H-Width dress shoes. Those shoes are basically half a size too small and one size too wide for me, but they fit and are generally comfy, although the AE65 instep is too low.

I have Viberg boots in the 2030 last. This is supposed to be an E (wide) but that's fake news. It is narrow in some areas.

I have tried Carmina oxfords in the Rain last. People say it is roomy. It's just a bad last honestly, the heel is massive and the width is narrow. There is Rain EEE but that also makes the heel even bigger.
I have Carmina boots in the Forest last. This one is ok but I should have probably gone with Forest EEE.
Important to remember Carmina "EEE" is not like normal EEE. Their EEE is just one size wider than normal.
If I were to buy Carmina again, I would try the Soller last.

My shell boots are in Bonafe 363mod last. This is a great last for me, very comfy.
My recent buy are Alden Indys in the Trubalance last, E width (one wider than normal). This feels great but have only worn them one day.

Seems I've struck a nerve lmao

All you fucking Nobleman subscribing cigar chewing mid level tech support losers arguing over whose shitty microbrand leather boots are the least shitty and what kind of kangaroo semen makes the best polish are hilarious. Every thread is the exact same discussions over and over: >hurrdurr mallshit >hurrdurr paki lasts >hurrdurr you spent 900 dollars on shoes >hurrdurr you only spend 200 bucks enjoy your asos tier quality >muh red wings muh instagram ad boots muh perfectly made calfskin chelseas from respected Saville Row house

Learn how to have fun and stop coping

$1,000 boots you wear for 10 years cost $100 a year, or you could just destroy a hundred dollar pair of shoes every year and spend the same amount of money but be less comfortable. Then you pay $2-500 and have the $1,000 boots rebuilt and wear them for another 10 years.
