Just received five 2ml decants today:

- Interlude by amuage
- Layton parfums de marly
-Oud for greatness initio
-Nasomatto pardon
-Au Coeur du Désert Andy Tauer

I will keep reporting. I just sprayed Interlude and I'm in love, will probably end up buying a whole bottle. Anyone knows if midnight Oud is a nice clone ? I would buy that too to wear at home if the smell is close enough

Good selection. If you end up liking Layton, don't forget to buy Detour Noir instead. Not 1:1 the same anymore (slightly fresher opening in Detour Noir), but the drydown is still the same. Will make you forever realize how much of a rip-off Layton actually is.

>> No.17424855

It's a drug store, but of the supermarket kind. Hundreds of open bottles. I'm sure they are the reason why poor people sometimes smell good. They go to Müller, nuke themselves with a tester and then buy a toothbrush or whatever. Completely unattended fragrances, basically. They don't have enough workers to even ask "can I help you" or whatever.

>>17424850
I think they cut down on Tom Ford and stuff like that, but you can still test many Chanels and Diors. I have no clue how they do it, since they also stock all the cheap shit like Jaguar, Adidas, Joop and Bruno Banani frags.

Second, why the fuck do we keep hyping the same shit? Its like most of the conversation is bottle necked to the same brands and bottles and outside discussion sort of dies.
I know it's gay to curate an anonymous thread but would anyone be interested in picking a genre or a note and having a discussion about it? Or look at your collection and find the fragrance with the lowest number of votes and reviews on Fragrantica and discuss it?
I'm convinced there's a wealth of knowledge, taste, experience and frankly disposable income in these threads and we're wasting it.

I impulse bought Jacomo de Jacomo. I like the notes and gothic reputation it has. Is it Bogart tier in power, or more moderate?

Also, how exactly do you tell if a frag has gone bad? I got a bottle of Moods by Krizia for Xmas, but something seems a little off about it. It doesn't smell bad per se, but it seems hollowed out and echo-y, a hint of spice and nothing. Not sour though.

I have a question, do people who wear fucktons of fragrance have burnt out noses or something?
Because I'm practically gagging when they pass by with their nasty chemtrail that doesn't even smell like fragrance anymore.
Add a 10x multiplier if they're male and they've been sweating, that stank stays there long after they walked by.
Why is this acceptable?

You go noseblind to fragrances after a certain point, yes. Which is why one must resist temptation to go past a certain number of sprays for certain frags.

1: If you haven't already, get a vintage bottle of Salvador Dali Pour Homme. Easy to find on eBay, worst case scenario grab a sealed splash bottle and decant into an atomizer. The whole honey tobacco profile for Mugler Pure Havanne/Naxos/18.21 Man Made etc is close to a direct rip from this fragrance. You need the vintage though, which is still cheap. It's also very wearable today, especially since Sauvage Elixir and Beau Du Jour are mainstream.

If you have that go to these next:
Vintage Caron Pour un Homme. Skanky as shit, best kept secret if you like Kouros and Antaeus style frags.
Dior Jules
Dior Eau Sauvage. Vintage 1oz bottles are normally available on eBay.
Vermeil Pour Homme
Maxim's Pour Homme. Another underated classic animalic. Part of me is always greedy and doesn't want to recommend this but it's so good that I have to. Floral, leather, oakmoss, animalic.
Alain Delon Iquitos. The most beautiful fragrance for men I've ever smelled, and it's skanky as hell. Smells hot, tropical, sensual. There's cool history here with Dior rejecting the fragrance and then regretting it, and the frag was discontinued due to ingredient availability rather than reformulate. Get a mini on eBay at least, everyone should smell this one.

I can't stand florals in most men's frags today, the fact that frags like Lyric for Men, Toy Boy and Declaration Soir get pushed as good florals make me shake my head. Florals in the late 70s to early 90s were more common and still MANLY.

Paco Rabanne Tenerre . Similar spirit to Iquitos, different execution. Civet and honey, musk, moss, patchouli and leather with a bouquet on the side. Has a strange dusty vibe which is somehow pleasant.

Azarro Acteur. Leather bomb with a huge blood red rose note, voluptuous and sensual. Great use of nutmeg as well. Somewhat modern smelling too, could be released today as niche and people would go ape shit

>> No.17425377

>>17425368
2: Paloma Picasso Minotaure. Beautiful fragrance, works flawlessly today. Orange musky creamsickle. Works so well that Almariac decided to be a giant bitch and release the exact same fragrance again and call it Wake Up World but charge niche price. I'm not joking, it's the same fragrance, you can read about it on Fragrantica. save your money, buy a vintage bottle on eBay of the first formulation. Runs 50-70, juice smells fine as long as the box is sealed and unused.

Carlo Corinto for men. Soapy, herbal green leather Fougere with a strong and anachronistic raspberry note. I think Tom Ford got the idea for Tuscan Leather here.

Aramis Havana. Still my favorite tobacco fragrance. Orange, allspice, bay leaf, tobacco, rum and leather. This fragrance just feels passionate and alive. The rerelease isn't bad, but if you want the real deal look for the original blue bottles.

Cappucci Pour Homme. A rougher, more herbal and spicy Acqua Di Parma Colonia

Versace L'homme. Saving the best for last. Pure Italian, perfect mix of class and sleaze. Citrus, musk, leather. Not complicated but executed immaculately, back when Versace was run by the real talent. Easy to find the vintage on eBay, font style is different on the original bottles. Price is low but will skyrocket as supply dwindles.

That's it for now. I've tried to stick with ones that are readily available on eBay for less than $100, Iquitos is the exception but you can still get a mini which will last for years.

Similar by the way with polo green. The original scent is a different one than the recent one. Recent polo green smells like an urinal cake, only in the opening there's fres h green pine, dries down to a sweet piss note.

Honestly it's like two different frags.I feel bad , I should have specified get vintage but the rerelease is so bland I legit forget it existed.

Again, I'm sorry. If you're curious, try and get a mini or a sample of the vintage. While you're at it, get the original formulation of Xeryus Rouge. It's still cheap on eBay and it's a really interesting fragrance because its such an anachronism. Smells surprisingly modern.

Oh man, that is the stuff. It seems to hold up well too (I guess not that many fussy ingredients to go bad, etc. -- just lavender, vanilla, and musk). I love the current formulation too, but the older ones really stand toe-to-toe with Jicky and Mouchoir de Monsieur with that bracing opening, interplay between dirty and clean, and the cozy drydown. Although i got a new formulation it grows on me. It got more depth than Cerruti 1881, it dries down green, fresh, woody almost gin-like due to the juniper. Love the drydown. I'm actually going through a major Zino phase right now. I bought a small bottle of the vintage last year because of all the Beau de Jour comparisons. I liked it but was also kind of disappointed because I found the opening sour and astringent, and it didn't smell that close to Beau de Jour. And because the bottle I got was so small I was reluctant to wear it much.

Then a few weeks ago I finally bought a bottle of current Zino (along with the deodorant) because it's dirt cheap and I wanted to see how it compared to the vintage. Something clicked when I sprayed it for the first time, and I completely fell in love. It's all I've wanted to wear recently, and I like it even more than Beau de Jour now (I guess this is growing up?). Also the current and vintage are about 90% identical (vintage is a bit stronger, but you can compensate by spraying more).

The opening can still be kind of challenging--intense mouth-watering bergamot and lavender, which can come across as pissy at times. But I think it's gorgeous. Then it dries down into some beautiful dusty patchouli and vanilla, with echoes of rose and geranium, the lavender still humming in the background.

So to answer your question, yes Zino is comfy.

I don't think it's that similar to Z-14. Z-14 is a light woody citrus + cinnamon to my nose, and Zino is darker and heavier (but not oppressively so). You should definitely blind buy Zino if you're at all interested. At this point I'm thinking it's the best value-for-money in all of men's perfumery

Furyo is hard to describe. It's like a kind of pungent, soapy musk with oriental spice to it. Getting rarer, to the point where I'm thinking of copping a backup.

Lapidus PH is a kind of woody-honey frag. Dense is the best word I'd use to describe it. Starts rough, edges out to a weird sweet haze. PH Sport is metallic flowers that dries down to a kind of semi-floral, semi-aquatic freshness, all with a skanky undertone.

Ok help me find this scent in my mind. These do not correlate to a specific cologne, but for some reason my mind is correlating these to this type of scent. Just need help finding the best smell for this mood.

Early 2000s, commercials of mid 20s to early 30s masculine men in the shower coming out with a towel looking fresh and clean, freshwater lakes on a warmcool day with a light breeze, with a tiny hint of mint and vanilla. The visuals blue color of Nautica Voyage (I've never smelled this so maybe this is the one I should get)

My mind is imagining a scent thats like a mix of Versace Pour Homme, Aqua Velva, and JPG Le Male.
Very light, but still masculine, not very chemically, natural, and fresh and aquatic.
And something the ladies will love.

Help me find a good cologne for this "vibe" please.
I also have one more follow up "vibe" I'm looking for in my next post.

>> No.17428181

The next "vibe" I'm trying to match a fragrance to is this:

Imagine a cold winter day, you're in the alps or something, hiking or skiing.
You rent a lodge, wearing a sweater, you have a fire going, reading a book, you hear the wind making noise against the lodge. Very cozy. Not too bold, something light. Like the scent of cedar, and a very light little hint of pine or sandlewood. A fresh touch too because of the cold, and the wet snow.

>> No.17428185

And one last vibe looking for a fragrance to match to.

Imagine walking through the woods, on an autumn day. Like new hampshire. Kind of a musky, wood smell. You have the damp leaves, PETRICHOR scent, and maybe imagine a bit halloweenish vibes. Again, light not too bold. Like the scent is kind of lingering around, but you love it and just want to sit there and breathe slowly its relaxing in a way.

>> No.17428218

Scent is possibly the best interest/hobby to have, because it is inherently an in person activity. there's no way you can sample or have an opinion about a scent unless you go out of your way to try it. You have to go to perfumeries, pharmacies, department stores to sample, unless you want to spend money and blindly try shit. But it's a bodily, communal, and humanistic thing that we can only experience in person. The true saving grace of our internet age... Long live the perfumeries...

I got Insurrection II Wild and it is indeed a good Pure Havane clone. Pure Havane does last longer on me, though. Detour Noir makes Layton obsolete. Franck Olivier stuff hasn't managed to convince me, neither did Hawas, although it used to be good for the price it had (it has become more expensive each time a new batch drops). L'Eau d'Issey isn't for me, neither is Sculpture. CDNIM is just sour. I'm looking for Hommage a L'Homme and haven't found it yet. No clue what that blue bottle is.

I was going to heartily praise that collection until I saw that man Bogarts. Now I think it's shit, you probably have brown skin and drive a cab and are one of the shit skins the goes on FB trade forums and begs for niche frags for free by going "God morning sir very beautiful fragrance very good manly yes but I am not sure it is being worth the price you are asking yes? I need a BEAST fragrance yes very powerful and manly yes I this price is much too high you give cheap yes? And why only ship in America? I am in Sri Lanka sirs you ship to me cheap too yes? I await reply let me know when you can send. Yes."

Bogart is for people with zero fucking taste who think the only good frags are ones that last 16 hours and fill a room. Quality of smell? Irrelevant. Price? $30 or less, preferably much less.

Exceptions are Furyo and Witness.

Unfortunately. Too many of them is leather centric and variations of her dna or a bit too feminine leaning even if I like them, sticky fingers, unspoken musk, dark side. Haven't tried libertine neroli, but it didn't receive raving reviews.
Divine perversion is a more light wearable gourmandish fragrance, but feminine leaning. I expect more releases from Hedonik, but it will probably something floral and animalic...

A fougere or something else more classic masculine would be nice.

Alright, so here's more about my trip to the city:
>go into large department store
>walk up to Chanel, Dior, Guerlain to test some stuff I've been missing
>quite a few based frags (including Antaeus)
>move on to Byredo, bdk, Initio, diptyque, Bond No. 9, etc. etc. etc.
>everything is basically another take on something I've smelled from Dior, Chanel, Guerlain before
>FUCKING WASTE OF TIME
>only very few outliers
>go to L'Occitane
>Eau des Baux straight up mogs everything that wasn't Dior, Chanel, Guerlain
>go to smaller perfumery
>Cartier a massive disappointment, will never get my rec
>only 3 Nicolai frags, 2 feminine
>Cuir Cuba Intense is ok, but at least different to all the other stuff
>move to The Body Shop
>eh
>Rituals
>eh
>go to niche perfumery
>once AGAIN closed, two hours before their actual closing time (???)
>go to other large department store
>test a few frags
>some designer stuff is once again the best
>Comme des Garcons mogs 90% of all the "niche" stuff
>spent longer sniffing CdG stuff than everything else
>Voyage d'Hermes Parfum is up there too
>Other Hermes stuff still disappoints, won't get my rec
>testers of Toy Boy, Luna Rossa Carbon, and other few interesting ones are empty

And that's it. Check out all the stuff from Dior, Chanel, Guerlain and you've played store fragrances through. CdG is also very interesting, very futuristic and I consider them very wearable, really should go and test only those the next time. Wrists were kinda occupied. Hermes would probably be up there if I liked vetiver, but I don't. Cartier isn't interesting enough, but neither is all the expensive faux-niche shit. It all smells the same. If it has "amber" or "santal" in the name, Guerlain does it better. Tom Ford stuff was unironically the best expensive niche, because it was at least unique from time to time. Nothing which blew me away, though. Had better stuff from MDCI, Tauer, Nicolai etc. which just wasn't available at all these stores.

Why the hate on Red Tobacco? I got a sample of this, then a week later, the day before Christmas eve, I was in downtown Chicago, walking through the long tunnel between Jackson Red and Blue line. As I passed through it, the only one in it, in the -18 def F weathrer, this rich, deep cigar scent wafter over me. There wasn't a piss smell, or anything, like Philly subways, just this deep, dense, rich, mildly spicy cigar smell. It reminded me of the Red Tobacco sample I'd gotten, and I decided to buy a bottle then.

So why the hate? Is it too loud? Too "basic" for Anon's "anti anything mildly associated with acceptance by normalfriends" leatism? Not complex enough compared to other tobaccos? Personally, I think its a lovely simple linear smell; accurate, rich, and dirty, with great length and sillage, to boot.

Personally I can't stand Sauvage and not as in "it's not for me" but more like it's objectivly repugnant. I thought it was the ambroxan but I recently tried CH Cobalt and it's basically 1:1 clone of sauvage with the same nauseating effect and yet it doesn't have ambroxan in the notes breakdown...

Plenty. Iso-E Super smells different to people and smells like nothing at all to some others. Certain ionones can have a really pungent odor while being pleasant to some. I'm not 100% sure but they might be responsible for the dill/pickles smell of Santal 33, if you smell dill/pickles in it. There's a specific molecule which smells completely off to me, but not most people (haven't been able to identify it yet). Benzaldehyde, nitrobenzene and cyanides either smell like almonds or cherries to people (mostly unused in perfumery, just based on my knowledge from the laboratory). A similar effect is represented in Guerlain's L'Homme Ideal (mostly in the EdP), which makes people smell more almond and less cherry or just cherry all the way, for example. I don't get any almond from it and the previously mentioned molecules all smell like cherries to me, despite often being described as also smelling like almonds.

Some of you fags need a reality check, you've gone too far down the rabbit hole. You autistically obsess over fragrances and label them as being either good or shit (no middle ground), as being for summer or winter, for this occasion or that occasion, etc. The fact is 99% of fragrances smell nice and for the most part it doesn't matter what you spray on yourself. If you're attractive then smelling good is just the cherry on top (pretty much any fragrance will do). If you're some ugly loser it doesn't matter if you're wearing a ridiculously expensive niche fragrance or a mass-pleasing compliment-getter, ultimately you're still an ugly loser.

You all hate Sauvage because it's throws the reality of the world in your face ever time you smell it.
Sauvage isn't brilliant, it isn't exceptional, it isn't magical. It simply well put together, friendly, out going, doesn't quit and manages to fit in without changing in almost every situation. And that is more than good enough because the overwhelming majority of people love it. And this is documented time and time again, video after video and post after post. People love Sauvage.
Sauvage as a fragrance is what you wish you could be as a person, but aren't. Instead you'll sit around circle jerking the rare ingredients and exotic creations, lauding each other for your superior taste, looking down on the plebs who shower Sauvage with compliments. Why don't they compliment you? Isn't it obvious how much better your fragrance is? It's niche for gods sakes!
Nevermind that you don't actually understand what niche even means.
So you'll post and post, seething and pretending to laugh at your own wit each time you meme about Bois Imperial. But one black day you'll crack and do the unthinkable: You'll buy Sauvage. You won't post about it here of course , my god why would you? You have a completely anonymous reputation to protect! You'll spray it on and part of you will be ashamed and feeling transgressive, but a small sliver of you will feel hopeful for a change. Maybe, just maybe, today I'll be noticed. Today I'll get a compliment. I just want to feel what it's like one time, everyone else loves this stuff, surely there's one compliment left for me?
I genuinely pity you when you still won't get a compliment and are forced to confront the reality that even a jovial titan like Sauvage can mask how rotten, desolate and unappealing you are.

So keep shitting on Sauvage, spray your niche of the month or whatever arab oil is getting hawker now. much like a tranny pretends to be a woman you are equally delusional in your claims of superiority. Cope and seethe.

I'm actually not big on the smell of Sauvage itself, although I don't hate it. Now Elixir on the other hand did indeed hit all the right spots.

>>17430950
Asad doesn't have Sauvage performance and certainly not Sauvage Elixir performance. It's not a bad fragrance, though, but you would have to fit it into the "amber vanilla" category (which is massively different to Elixir).

>>17431004
Try Prada Luna Rossa Black. It might not be as unique, but it certainly isn't common, either. Also doesn't break the bank.

I thought so and had to return it. It smells too much like fruity tea with an undertone of generic cologne

They both have that molecule in them that smells off to me. The underlying notes seem to be a bit generic masculine with a coconut note on top, at least for the regular one. In Le Parfum I can't smell anything other than that weird chemical.

The elites don't want you to know this but 99.9% of vanilla perfumes smell very unisex.

Wait for a discount (inb4 doesn't exist), track prices, get decants, take part in a split, buy open bottles. I picked up a bottle of Pour Monsieur for less than 70€recently.

Versace dylan blue is the most versatile in my collection, you can wear it morning or evening, cold or warm weather and it will do the trick. Just niche enough its not mainstream like sauvage and everybody loves the fragrance. I’ve gotten countless compliments.

Do I need to buy Molecule 01 or can I just buy 100 ml of Iso E Super spray from Amazon?
I am not sure if Molecule 01 consists of one special isomer of Iso E Super or something like that

SOTD Caron Pour un Homme. Even the new formulation smells amazing and is irrefutable proof you don't need an overly complex pyramid to smell great. Sometimes minimalism works. Toes the line between clean and sleaze well, the older formulations were bolder and more sleazy but also less versatile. I prefer the older bottles for special occasions but I could wear the new one every day for a week and not feel bad.
