I dropped my Tudor black bay when I was drunk in an airport and that shit fucked up my movement, bashed in the crown at just a 3 foot drop. The omegalul planet ocean I dropped on tile from 6 ft in the air directly onto tile off of a shelf and it didn’t give a single fuck. The quality as far as durability of some omegas is actually pretty impressive. You can toss it on the ground then chuck it in an MRI machine and it still works. Omega is a gay brand for lots of reasons but the build quality in my experience was sturdy. I never dropped my rolex but the tudors shatter and are pretty delicate short of the Pelagos which has anti-shock protection for the movement. The bezel has been reported to shatter however.

Got news for you brotha, you ain’t even on a waitlist for most Rolexes unless you give a ton of money to them buying items you don’t want.

Playing the Rolex games are insane. I went through it, owned 3 of them, and then got rid of all but one of them. The watches are good but nothing as special as the hype would make you believe. It’s an underwhelming experience to own one. Piece of advice for everyone is don’t underestimate how truly underwhelming a rolex is, and the people you will be associated with if you own one.

I used to think JLC, Lange, blancpain were a bit underwhelming looking for the money when I first looked at watches totally new to the hobby, but the more understated watches grew on me.

TLDR Rolex is hype and you go through either sucking off an AD or paying gray to look like a douche for a watch which usually has no complications or wow-factor beyond owning it for a few weeks.

If I'd wanted to get really esoteric I would have dug up the chronometer timing certificate for a single Omega watch in the 1980s that got a perfect score in chronometer testing (i.e. +/- 0 seconds per day deviation on all tests performed) that has since been lost to history, but I was being lazy and didn't want to go find the pic.

My grail watch doesn't exist (yet) but it would be a credor level quartz alpinist, 37mm steel case, dial and hands similar in concept to the GCAX985, internal rotating bezel, 3 o'clock date only perpetual calendar with polished metal frame around the date window, independently adjustable hour hand, and instant (as in midnight on the dot) date change. There would be no cyclops. The dial would be freehand painted white porcelain, with hand painted blue lines around generously hand-applied Seiko lumibrite. The bezel would also be hand painted. No solar garbage either, it needs to take a conventional silver oxide battery. Steel bracelet.

I have no idea how technically feasible this would be, but I'd cum hands free if shinji hattori showed up at my door with this watch in a presentation case.

I think main issue with watch threads is how polarizing they are. There's basically 2 different types of people trying to find some common ground. Watch collectors who are obsessed about flashy watches and just average /fa/ users looking for a fashionable piece to complement their fit. For collectors watch is basically the most important thing they wear. Similar to sneakerheads who usually dress in plain fashion but wearing the most extraordinary sneakers they can find which end up sticking out like a sore thumb. From a more effay point of view I think watch should be just a subtle addition to your overall style. And this is where the conflict emerges.

How do we feel about the 5KX?

>> No.17422912

>>17422533
I think the issue is that you are thinking of the Pelagos in comparison to a Rolex, even though no Rolex is technically similar. The only watch that Rolex made that was made of titanium was the 50mm joke of a watch. There is no lume anywhere as good as the Pelagos either. The watch is also allegedly shock proof so the movement will be protected if there is damage but I am not sure that is unique to a Rolex. The watch does borrow from the sub aesthetically with its ceramic bezel but as far as the watches go, the Pelagos is a technically superior watch to the sub. The lume, the adjustable band, the titanium, and probably other features I have forgotten. And yet, the watch feels uninspired aesthetically and does feel like a knockoff of a sub visually. I have owned a seadweller and a Pelagos and I would honestly tell you the Pelagos was superior because the seadweller has a the absolute most fucking retarded caseback of any watch of the market. It is not flat but CURVED so that when you ratchet it in your wrist to the point it is cutting off blood it still moves because of the small surface area the watch is making contact with the wrist. I would take a Kermit Rolex over the Pelagos because it looks much more aesthetic and doesn’t have the same issues as a seadweller.

Also going to say it again, a Rolex has meme’d everyone into thinking it’s more special than it is. They’re in demand and hard to get so people want them more than ever but does anyone have a case as to why Rolex is so much better than other watches? I have owned 3 Rolexes and got rid of two of them because I didn’t feel like they were anything special once I got them.

Or is this a troll like the tears poster, Kek. Isn’t Rolex fashionably speaking just a low class flex these days anyway? be gentle to my ass for asking, I am being serious.

Well, they are reliable and nicely finished. What kind of specialty do you expect from them? A watch doesn't grant super powers or anything. It's good for flexing on the lower class, but why would you want to impress these people? You certainly won't impress actually rich people, because it's just a basic cheap watch in their eyes.

Lange Saxonia has superior finishing at a similar price point. Other watches offer unique complications for what a hype Rolex sells for. Other watches also offer reliability.

That’s kind of what I am trying to get at. It is a status symbol flex, but you end up just flexing on poors or like you said, the people with actual money think you look like a low class Jabari or think oh he’s wearing my beater. I like Rolex but I think the marketing has blown everything out of proportion and the crowd of people surrounding the brand is cancer. The case that “well yeah the ADs and people who wear them are bad but the watches are good” is a shaky argument to me because many other watches are good too for the price and you get the bonus of not looking like a dickwad.
