Found your problem. I did that for a while then I got completely sick of it. I won't buy a watch unless it has at least 10bar, and I'm buying it new. I did keep one vintage but I very rarely use it.

I recently got a "nice" sports watch after wearing a diver with a rotating bezel for years and I never really thought about how much I used the rotating bezel in daily life until it wasn't on my wrist. Twice now today I've instinctively reached for the bezel only to find nothing.

Do other dive watch people use theirs a lot or was it just me?

You just got done telling me you're always worried about washing your hands, so don't give me that.

Those ratings are for a brand new pressure tested watch btw, if you want a watch that you never need to worry about even after years of daily exposure to water, what you want is to max out the WR unless you're going to pressure test it all the time and who has time for that shit

I went back and forth on the size versus the other larger divers like the SKX007 and I think I prefer it being a similar size to the SNK809. It's more out of the way.

Omega in the 1960s was the greatest mass market watchmaker in the world. Many of those Constellations from that period contain variants of one of the greatest mass produced mechanical movements of all time, the 55x/75x/6xx family.

It's actually quite hilarious how cheaply you can still get many amazing Omega models from the 1960s for since most modern 'watch enthusiasts' don't have a fucking clue about how good they are.

At one point in the 1960s, a million 56x movements passed chronometer testing...in a row.

Keep in mind that the 56x was a 19,800 bph movement, and that making movements precise enough to pass chronometer testing gets successively easier as the beat rate is raised (up to a point), so that it's much easier for 28,800 bph or 36,000 bph movements to meet a chronometer standard than for a low beat movement. Especially since the 56x has a regulated balance, rather than free sprung, which means that a lower beat rate will have an even bigger effect on precision than it would on a free sprung balance movement.

It is honestly astonishing what Omega managed to achieve with that movement.

I don't know what idiot made the guide but I'm pretty sure pilot watches didn't historically have chrono shit
They were invented for early 20th century aviation, meaning the cockpits were cold and windy and dark at night
So, they always used to have big cases with big digits, illuminated whatever, rotating bezels for quick time zone changes, and giant crowns so you could wind them with gloves on
Some of them "slide rule" markings for measuring wind speed but I don't know how that's actually supposed to work

This is awful. Never wear a diver with a suit, you'll look like a fucking moron. You can maybe get away with it in a blazer, but not in "business formal".

Also, you can totally get away with a chronograph, pilot or field wearing a suit, as long as they're subtle, not overtly function-over-form and you have a proper strap to fit the attire.

Sounds like your family already had money and you’re not a spender which is how you keep the money. I made otherwise good decisions with my money but I regret spending on bullshit things. Which leads me to answering your watch question…

The thrill is definitely in wanting it and then acquiring it. It takes about a month or so for it to feel like nothing. There is no end to materialism, in fact, maybe it leads to feeling emptier. The best thing in life for me is to just have a house which isn’t gf and I will pay off eventually and to have enough money to feasibly not have to ever worry about losing a job or having an unexpected but necessary expense.

Yep, the hedonic treadmill is empty, and a game no one wins. You sound a lot like me. I'm 39 and just want total peace of mind when it comes to personal finance, and once I have one million I will have it, given my spending habits. I drive a sixteen year old econobox, cook all my meals (Costco member since 2006), and get my entertainment for free from the library or pirating. At the end of the day all I really want is to go back in time and not fuck it up with the girl I should have married, I'd happily be $600k in debt for that chance, but since that's out of the question I just focus on financial security.
Nice job on getting that house, put everything you have into paying it off ASAP and you'll be a free man, or at least as free as a man can be given that taxes exist.
God speed anon.
p,s, I'm still gonna buy a $500 watch anyway btw, just because I think it'd be a nice fashion accessory.

I think that the first step to old money is new money. Wealthy families look down on people who act Nouveau-Riche but I think either they or someone earlier in their family acted the same way at first. Kind of like how you get older and then look back at your adolescent years with disdain but it was all part of the learning process. I am 29 now but was 28 when I inherited money.

I will pay off the house alongside the gf who will be my wife one day. She’s pretty young and wanted to not be tied down and I told her that we needed to start our future together or I would do it alone. I am thankful she stayed. What happened with your lost love anon?

P.S. make sure to enjoy your money not for the purposes of spending it for materialistic reasons but for self-love.

>What happened with your lost love anon?
We were together through high school and college. Unfortunately I never learned how to share my feelings when I was upset so instead of talking about small issues as they came up I let them pile up while I quietly seethed until one day it all came out at once when I finally blew everything up. I've since learned how to be a better man and partner through the relationships I've had since, but none of those girls were truly compatible with me like she was. She has since gotten married and had a kid, I wish her the best and am happy she's happy, but I will still love her for the rest of my life. If you really love your gf and think you'd be happy together forever, lock it down right now, and never let resentments build.
Best of luck to you two.

get a prospex solar since it won’t be used as much as the everyday watch, when you’re going to the beach/pool, it’ll be a lifesaver plus you don’t have to worry about servicing it. I know those feels anon, my one that got away I still think about, I wasn’t man enough or ready personally to commit to her and she moved, found a new man, and built a great life. I’m happy for her because she got it after I let her go. You can’t beat yourself up forever for your past mistakes. I know therapy gets shit on heavily here, but I’d really recommend giving it a real shot, go find a therapist your age (male) that understands your struggles, and will help you get over them. I did therapy for two years and it seriously helped me so much. Got sober, started working out hard again, checked myself into therapy, and turned my 20s around by 26 and have had a beautiful end to them. I used to be constantly negative and depressed and now I’m the one that’s optimistic and tries to be positive when I can. Just keep trying until you find a good therapist, there’s a lot of quacks out there, but when you find one you truly click with it makes all the difference. You have to want it though, if you just go and don’t put in any work discussing the heavy things really bothering you it won’t do any good. Unironically go to the gym and get jacked, it will do so much good for you.
>>17417435
No offense to anon but he seems kind of depressed, and still stuck on his past flame, which I know can be hard, but that probably hurts his chances more than anything. When you’re depressed and still love another woman other girls can tell, it colors all of your interactions and no one wants to be around that long term unless they’re also depressed. I’m sure if he put himself out there after some therapy and he’s in good shape there’d be plenty of women as young as late 20s interested in him.
