Some of you fags need a reality check, you've gone too far down the rabbit hole. You autistically obsess over fragrances and label them as being either good or shit (no middle ground), as being for summer or winter, for this occasion or that occasion, etc. The fact is 99% of fragrances smell nice and for the most part it doesn't matter what you spray on yourself. If you're attractive then smelling good is just the cherry on top (pretty much any fragrance will do). If you're some ugly loser it doesn't matter if you're wearing a ridiculously expensive niche fragrance or a mass-pleasing compliment-getter, ultimately you're still an ugly loser.

>Thread blessed by another man that loves Vetiver

Vetiver *is* fantastic and if you eschew all Vetiver for being "dated" you are indeed a low IQ nigger because there's also modern vetivers like
>Bois Imperial (yes I am a fag who will shill this in every thread until Quentin Bisch gives me cummies)
>Carven Le Vetiver
>Encre Noir Sport
>Terre D'Hermes Intense Vetiver
>Atelier Cologne Vetiver Fatal
>Chopard Noble Vetiver

And those are just some of the frags that are Vetiver dominant. There are hundreds of others where Vetiver plays a large but less aggressive role, like D&G Italian Love. Odds are Vetiver plays a role in one of your favorite frags. You may think you don't like Vetiver, you may even genuinely dislike older treatments of Vetiver but it's hard to be a fragrance lover and truly hates Vetiver. It's in so many frags and used in so many ways it's like saying you hate woody notes.

To give a somewhat serious answer it's patchouli cleaned up and distilled to an almost white/blonde level. No dirty, no chocolate, no dirty. A clean core "idea" of patchouli. Now through in the oud from M7, some black pepper and a small amount of savory spice like sage. The overall smell has a texture as well. Musky, velvet, smooth. No "scratchy" woods like IsoE. For some reason I don't go nose blind to it like Iso or Ambroxan. It's a good molecule but perfumers are just starting to wake up to it, it starting getting more hype in 2019-2020. Expect it to be everywhere by 2025.

Yes. Honestly there's not a huge difference between old school and new school vetivers, you can draw a straight line between them. To me newer vetivers are lighters and less pure, other notes are allowed to stand tall along side the vetiver. Someone in the last thread was asking about Rausch. Wearing it today.

If you've worn Raghba Wood Intense, this is a massive improvement but cleared related. Safe creamy oud, dense sandalwood and patchouli, and vanilla on top but the vanilla is a boozy vanilla liquer.

It's very good, sort of reminds me of a mix of MMM By the Fireplace and Jazzclub. Its not as aggressive as the notes would suggest, it is more boozy than I thought it would be . Performance is good for my tastes. Lasts all day but it doesn't project much, it forms a bubble around me.

Actually yes, there are plenty of people who claim Vetiver is dated on Fragrantica and Basenotes. I think it's because they don't understand how prevalent Vetiver is and how much of a shape shift the note can be.

No this thread is the only place half the people in here feel comfortable going because you can say nigger and no one has to actually know what they're talking about.

BI is well thought of on Fragrantica and Basenotes.

https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Essential-Parfums/Bois-Imperial-64338.html

What the hell is the obsession with "hype"? Do people not comprehend that something can be good without being hyped? Is that the metric, did people just give up on independent thought and forming opinions on their own? You do know the people hyping frags on YouTube are the equivalent of jannies here right?

They don't *quite* do it for free but it's pretty close. Influencers get a bottle that's already been made and in exchange the company gets thousands and thousands of extra bottles sold. It's a fantastic return on investment that costs next to nothing. The fragrance was already made, shipping is cheap.

Basically considering the possibility hype is most artificial and not indicative of real quality.

wowee, another thread of discussing BI.

SOTD: costume national homme parfum, what a fantastic spicy, dry grapefruit by dominique ropinion and an underrated house.

contemplating on buying a sample set from divine to try out divine l'homme sage (thanks anon for recommending it). by the way, essenza-nobile has a great offer today, giving out a free bottle and 10% on an order - take a look if you're EU.

I'm interested in it because I like pineapple as a note and I heard the performance is great and for a summery fragrance that's quite rare. If you buy from Luckyscent get the "splash" bottle. It's not actually a splash bottle, it comes with an atomizer you attach yourself. It's fucking stupid but it's waaaaay more cost effective to just get the 100ml bottle.

Which CN Homme do you have ? The original was clove heavy, the remake is a cardamom bomb. There's a new CN fragrance but I can't find it in the US yet. Looks very promising, a citrus incense scent
And sadly I'm one of the people praising BI. I think it's a fantastic fragrance on all fronts.

Tie between Essenza and Intensa

Essenza: Dichotomous fragrance, equal parts clean and dirty. Absolutely masterful blending, smells exuberant, joyous, sexy and alive. Blends well with the smell of your own skin, doesn't scream "I'm wearing a fragrance". Great use of florals in a men's fragrance without compromising the feeling of masculinity. The neroli note is incredibly long lasting here, I get an easy 8 to 10 hours out of Essenza. I fucking hate cheesy descriptions like this but Essenza IMHO smells like wearing a freshly laundered whiten line shirt and walking through a citrus groove on a warm summers day. One of the few frags I've bought and used multiple full bottles of.

Intensa because Morillas and Demachy brilliantly updated the original and massively enhanced it's projection and longevity while sacrificing a small amount of the brightness and vibrancy of the original, IMHO the trade was worth it.Intensa smells like the original with a little leather and butched up but it's clearly still Acqua Di Parma Colonia.

Those are the best two of the "classics".
From the new bottles Quercia and Oud are amazing. Quercia is their take on a lime shaving cream and Oud is an Italian Citric take on safe Oud. Well worth the money.

Went past a store and decided to catch two sprays:

YSL Y Eau de Parfum - it's like someone took a drugstore freshie (like bruno banani or whatever) and amped it up. Boring blue base, screeching synthetic apple on top. Somebody on parfumo wrote a review saying something like "nothing for experienced noses" and I agree with that. I can see why someone would like it, but I just don't. It sucks. Nothing new, nothing exciting. Seems to stick to clothes well, though. 4/10 just for the performance, but that's about it.

Prada Luna Rossa Black - another designer amber vanilla frag, fits right in with many others. Smells really good, though. Personally I would rate it above e.g. Spicebomb Extreme, Bulgari Man in Black and the entire Stronger With You line, which I consider to be roughly in the same category of frags. This gives me "aftershave" vibes, but in an amber vanilla context. Good stuff, really. Easily 8/10, although Man in Black would beat it if that one had better performance on me.

not him, but I've been using it for a year and a half now
good performance on my bottle, definitely much better than your average citrus-forward designer frag
the scent is basically bittersweet orange with a lot of spicy black pepper and some earthy, smoky and green facets from the vetiver and patchouli combo. add to that a bit of creamy sweetness in the base and a lot of Iso E Super, which provides a sort of dry wood "cloud" and helps it perform

it's an interesting modernized version of traditional old school masculine scents (vetiver, patchouli, spices and citrus), with added sweetness, Iso E and a more minimalistic approach to notes

good pick if you want something serious and masculine but still modern smelling. I like it the most in spring and autumn, or colder summer days, but you can wear it year round easily

Two thoughts on Jorum

1: They have the same feeling of rough natural beauty that Parfums D'Empire releases like Azemour, Corsica Furiosa, Mal-Aime have. Really natural smelling to the point they don't really feel like wearing a fragrance, feels like all the smells in an outdoor area have been sucked in and localized on my body. If you want a traditional fragrance, this isn't it but if you're open to something more "natural" these are great.

2: I am not a compliment magnet. I'm a literal middle aged Jew who height maxed and looks like Lurch mixed with Professor X. I wore Pony Boy today and received a very enthusiastic compliment in the elevator. The woman came in, sniffed the air and said "Oh my god you smell wonderful". She looked to be in her early 30s so I don't know if this will appeal to younger women but it is clearly noticeable to the opposite sex. We had a bit of a conversation afterwards and she told me to wear it again next time we bumped into each other.
So far I'm a huge fan of the house.

For me personally the fig is third string to the very strong grapefruit and rhubarb. To me Pony Boy is a little too "dense", it's hard to separate out individual notes and it's more of a vibe than distinct smells. I felt so happy wearing it though,it's hard to explain. Certain frags for me exist on their own as fragrances, others have their own mood or personality. Like Himalaya and Terre D'Hermes are quintessential business fragrances for me because they make me feel energized and confident when I wear them. That's why I was so happy to get a pre-reform bottle of TdH.

Pony Boy made me feel so happy wearing it,I imagine it will be glorious in warmer weather. If you don't like fig I'd still strongly recommend trying it, Luckyscent has samples.

For me Pony Boy is 40% fruit, 40% woods and green notes and 20% florals. I'm struggling to find a fragrance to compare it too and I've worn hundreds of frags over the years. No associations pop out at me.

Pony Boy was actually a blind buy for me. I've been wanting to get a good fruity fragrance for years and I've struggled to find one that worked for my chemistry. I don't ascribe gender to most notes because it's asinine when you think about it but most non citrus fruit frags feel too feminine or youthful to me. Things like Ultramale, Blackbird, Pulp, Erba Pura etc don't work for me, that style didn't even work when I was much younger. Pony Boy has some depth and heft to it, it never feels too sweet, too ephemeral or too girly.

I'm guessing you are under 25, have a sweet tooth, live in a temperate to warm climate and are relatively new at the hobby. Would you be interested in fragrances that would fit into that style of collection but maybe stand out more?

Those look really interesting, I'm going to figure out how to smell them without violating my self imposed six month ban on purchases. At some point when a collection becomes large enough certain fragrances reinvent the wheel. Even if magically fragrances were able to be objectively scored eventually you'd still run into the same problem. Say you had a cedar fragrance that is a 9, but one just came out that's 9.5 but costs 1.5x more than the one you have. Sure it's objectively better but is the price worth it?

That's sort of where I'm at. I think smelling too many frags becomes a bad thing at some point just because I can see threads connecting different releases and nothing feels "new" anymore. That's one of the reasons I'm loving Jorum studios, so far everything I've smelled from them is genuinely unique.

Do you have a favorite style of fragrance? It seems like our tastes match up on some levels, I'm curious if there's a certain style or image you prefer.

I totally understand what you refer to here, though I like to work via settings/milieus rather than numerical scales. I've grown into roses/irises lately and after largely going through my bottle of PoAL, I find myself digging further into "better"/more specific settings to wear a specific perfume, as if there was some end-goal where I have broken down the perfumes down to perfection. a good sign to take a step back and enjoy what I have for at least a good 6 months, to be fair.

>That's sort of where I'm at. I think smelling too many frags becomes a bad thing at some point just because I can see threads connecting different releases and nothing feels "new" anymore. yeah absolutely, and there are slight biases (what have I ordered recently, what's being spoken about etc etc), which is why I partly tend to dig into these lesser known houses. as long as i stay away from the hardcore vintage (though I love a lot vintages)/attar enthusiasm I'm happy, that's where I draw the line.

>Do you have a favorite style of fragrance? It seems like our tastes match up on some levels, I'm curious if there's a certain style or image you prefer.

I guess in terms of notes it's more of an exclusive approach: I can't stand most of the white/green/yellow florals (jasmine as in Champs Lunaires and Nuit de Bakelite are an exception, and looking to sample Fougere Emeraude), leathers and smoky fragrances are difficult (though I like DH:O, Idole by Lubin and Bois d'Ascese). as what I enjoy: nearly any amber (Ambra Aurea), aromatic fougeres (Bon Monsieur), wood(ish) fragrances (Montabaco Intensivo), roses (PoAL), irises (Musc des Sables). what about you?

I'll try it at the boutique and if I like it I'll consider it, I've heard a lot of good things of all JPG parfums.

>That's sort of where I'm at. I think smelling too many frags becomes a bad thing at some point just because I can see threads connecting different releases and nothing feels "new" anymore.
have you tried stuff by LUSH? i was surprised by how unique their scents are.
>>17410217
redpill me on everlasting. i like club design/scent tattoo and want to try other stuff but it's not that easy to get samples of it in europe. in general i feel like a lot of the interesting new school fragrances are made in the USA.
chiseled face midnight stag, desert storm & foxcroft by solstice scents are also ones i want to try but are hard to get. hell, it's hard to find british fragrances since brexit. kiked up custom fees and shipping costs aren't helping either.

SOTD: A*Men Ultimate
Fresh and clean in the vein of Invictus with a little sweet coffee softness going on. Kinda like Kryptomint to me. First spray smells like green and red gummy worms.

I hate Christmas so much it's unreal. I know I have mental health issues, I'm a literal diagnosed autist and I'm depressed. I try and go all out for everyone else's gifts because fuck it, somehow I make really good money and it feels good just to see other people happy you know? So this year I made a list of what I wanted for Christmas, make it simple, idiot proof, like you have to put effort in to fuck it up or have a genuine desire to fuck it up. I had it so you just click a link, boom, done.

I picked out three basic colognes. Girlfriend knows I collect fragrances, I upgraded her from fucking Euphoria to Tom Ford, DS and Durga, Les Indemodables, Bond No 9, etc. I picked three basic ass colognes that would still smell decent and are easy to get at Macy's. Prada Ocean, Polo Cologne Intense, Dior Sauvage Parfum. Dumb reach work frags and the whole point was to make things easy. I picked the smallest size possible of each bottle, so naturally I got a single fucking 8oz bottle of Polo Intense. And a shirt in the wrong size despite the link going to the right size.
I know in the grand scheme of things this means nothing and there are people with worse problems but I'm tired of feeling like I exist just to act as an emotional rodeo clown for other people. The worst part is I have to act like I'm thrilled because these fucking people can't take the slightest bit of disappointment or contemplation that they fucked up. So rather than an honest discourse where I say hey, I love you, but this isn't what I asked for and that's ok, we can return and exchange everything, I have to act like I'm fine.

Tldr I'm a depressed faggot, thank you for reading my blog post.

It got the slightly sweet, powdery, peppery woody style that many designer have as basenote, but in Bois Imperial it's amped up like there's no tomorrow.
It easily gets me attention from zoomie girls(19-21 years) like a bald shaved head and beard.

Exit The King is amazing, like the rose-scented bars of soap in your grandma’s bathroom rendered in neon over a bed of oakmoss.

On a completely different note, for the fougere heads out there I have to shout out YSL Jazz. I first smelled it a few months ago at a Sephora in Paris and thought it was really nice but I stupidly didn’t buy it despite the fact that I knew they don’t carry it back home in the US.
Anyway my gf just gave me a bottle of it for Xmas and I can confirm that it’s one of the best fougeres of the 80s and evokes that era while remaining completely wearable today. It’s distinguished by a de-emphasis on lavender and a focus on fizzy geranium and savory coriander. And the patchouli is finely calibrated to be rigged without crossing into dirty territory. A couple sprays of this stuff and you’re suddenly a well-put-together gentleman circa 1990. I might even prefer it to Rive Gauche Pour Homme at this point.
At any rate if you’re into fougeres and you haven’t tried Jazz you need to get on it while it’s still affordable

Jazz is amazing, and I highly recommend buying a bottle of Live Jazz before prices get evening crazier on eBay since it's discontinued. One of the best presentations of mint and ambergris out there. Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint is close , surprisingly so.
