Kind of reminds me of people back in college who'd smoke weed and their entire world and personality revolved around it, just couldn't keep up with any conversation for more than 10 minutes before they'd be itching to bring up weed again.

That’s subjective to you and another handful of people. You view it as a casual accessory, I view it as an accessory that can add style to your outfit. Look at the Cartier Tank or JLC Reverso or any slim dress watches. Hell, I’ve seen people wear even the Omega 300M in a suit and still looked fantastic. Besides it being an accessory, I like to read about them, especially the story behind different brands and how they came up with the design. Take for example the cheap Amphibia watch from Vostok, Bulova and another dude made it to Soviet set standards (easy to mass produce, water resistant, can take a beating, etc m) and the different workarounds they had to make to make these watches as cheap as possible. I’m by no means a Vostok fanboy, I just find stories like these interesting.

>> No.17406745

>>17406730
It's just not an item everyone these days wears, I suppose the idea of wearing a watch is making some kind of a statement to people who no longer do wear one l so I can see how they'd be a bit perplexed by opting to wear a small digital watch in that case.

But the thing is, for what it is and what it's supposed to do and be, it's nearly perfect (only the light lets it down, that's why I have the W86) and I know I'd rather have something that's the best it could be even if the end result isn't especially impressive, rather than a watch that's supposed to be a big boy watch, fails to be so but people wear them to be grown up.

I'm talking about stuff like a Tissot PR100, no one's going to say it's childish and yeah not everyone is going to know whether it was expensive or not, but it's going to leave someone in the know with a lot to desire because we all know you can go a lot further for mechanical watches. Small cheap little digital watches though, you're getting the best possible option with a Casio and I'd rather the best of one option rather than the "also ran" choice for a different option.

>> No.17406751

But that's the thing, you can go a lot cheaper still than Casio for digital watches, you are actually buying a solid product from Casio that is just inexpensive relative to western salaries rather than a genuinely cheap POS and that's the allure I think.

Otherwise why the hype around Casio specifically? Why isn't Just One More Watch gushing over a Happy Meal digital watch shaped like SpongeBob because it was literally free with a Happy Meal and made of horrible nasty plastic that will last for a million years in the landfill it will inevitably end up in after breaking within a month of usage?

On this topic, anyone know if there is such a thing as a high tier rubber strap with no holes, cut to size, a good deployant micro adjust clasp preferably ti, and fitted lugs for the apple watch ultra? My dad recently has had to switch to a smart watch due to advanced age (he needs something with voice interaction because he's going blind) and he's disappointed by how cheap and shitty the straps feel. He is coming from high tier swiss watches and he wants something with an equivalently high end feel. All I can find that's "luxury" is blingy bling alligator and gold crap which is tacky and awful, or metal bracelets which I don't think he'll like.

I've looked at visconti milano and camille fournet but they don't do that style, it's all shit with holes and not very sporty.

I was gifted a G-Shock GA-100C, but the LCD screen is barely visible unless in direct light and the backlight does nothing to illuminate it. Is it supposed to be like that, or should I try changing the battery? I've already confirmed that it is a genuine g shock.

there's no denying, the w-86 has the superior backlight, while being in the same price-point, but the f-91 simply gets more love simply for being a first love

Goys I'm trying to get an all rounder collection going. Currently I have the classic g shock 5600, hamilton khaki auto, a citizen pcat chrono, and I am looking for a diver/gmt watch but I'm not really sure what I want.

Steinhart looks really cool, I like the batman style but kinda want an original watch, not homage.
Orient kamasu seems OK and I may settle for it but I can't find one with the perfect color combo, although the blue or turquoise look good. I just have a niggling feeling about getting an orient when I coulda just got a seiko.
Seiko prospex looks nice and I even saw a land tortoise with the batman color and Sapphire but I see people complain about the qc with the bezel alignments, and it doesn't look quite as good as a kamasu plus no gmt. Gmt would be useful for me as I track meetings in EU and US times. Seiko 5 sports gmt fits all of those but the hardlex is fucking Jewish as hell for them to have it on a 400 dollar watch
