/btg/ - INDIGO HORSEHIDE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I did buy them nigger, I've worn them for 2 years.

The outsole is rock hard and doesn't absorb any impact from walking/running.
The insole is thin as fuck and gives very little arch support.
The canvas is thin and provides no support or structure, but it also has no stretch so you can never get them good and tight in the ankle to keep your heel from lifting out of the cup and making fucking squeaking noises as you walk around.

I want to replace them with something better in these ways, I don't care specifically if it's canvas as long as it has a similar look/vibe.

I don't even know anyone except Goral in the UK who makes sneakers with proper materials and build.

From my experience, single leather soles or (may god forgive me for uttering this word) dainite are problematic, there is just no cushioning.
My comfiest shoes and boots have proper rubber soles, even if low profile like Carmina's half-commando or Ridgeway.

If I had to wear oxfords on a daily basis I don't know what I would do, probably just ridgeway. No one will notice/care anyway.

From my experience, it's all about the heel.

Maybe it's my foot but I think the ideal last for me is narrow in the heel and wide in the front.
If you have a narrow heel that properly secures your foot you can even size up and get as much length and width as you want without heel slip.
That's how bespoke shoes end up with a full 1 inch of room in the front without slipping.

I guess it would be different if you had a narrow foot though.

Another thing that makes high end shoes more challenging to size right is the lining. Sneakers all have grippy lining, good shoes have veg tanned leather that will last a really long time, but that's very slippery. So if your shoes are too big you're screwed.

In terms of dress shoes, TLB works well for me. All of their artista lasts are identical except the shape of the toe box (chisel, round etc). So they all have the narrow heel.
I have recently got a pair of EB dress boots in the 363mod last. It feels very good but I have only worn them three times so too early to judge. But possibly my best fitting last so far.

You don't actually WORK in a cuban heel. It's a boot style 'country' people wear as an equivalent for formal wear.

Estimated Production Schedule and Releases (subject to change)

12/14/2022 - The first batch of Allen's and Richmond's are now a few business days out from the warehouse. I am anticipating delivery early next week, however after they're delivered I will be spending a couple of days after doing QC and inventory.

12/16/2022 - The second batch of this re-launch is due to finish up and ship by the end of the week of 12/19. If transit times hold as expected given the holiday carrier delays, these should be released by end of this year or beginning of next. A third and final batch are currently working their way through production. This final batch should be here by mid-January, but that could change depending on transit times. Note that after arrival for each shipment, I will need a few days or so to inventory and release. Your patience during these small gaps is appreciated - thank you.

January '23 - Expected also in January, are the re-stocks of the Niagara boot in Mahogany and Brown Waxy Commander as well as pre-order items reserved in September/October.

help me boot bros
how the fuck do you size your boots when you order online form EU shops?
looking at some urban shepherds, trickers, harrings and carlos santos shoes they all give me different sizes. heel needs to be snug but how many cm/mm of toe space is too much?

feel like i either get a narrow boot or a good width boot but with 2cm of extra empty toe space

Lol, machines? The vast majority of ranches in America are run by single families. The only difference between now and twenty years ago is the cost of land has forced tighter operations and shittier feed, and the only difference between then and 100 years ago is pickup trucks. Go in the country and you’ll still see fields with windmill driven troughs and guys on horseback tending a couple hundred head.

Maybe some loggers out in the Northwest didn't know any better. It's not an "American" thing it's just those companies being retarded. If you get dress shoes from an American company that focuses on shoes they're quite clear on the difference between Derbys and Oxfords because they sell both.

Well damn, basically no imperfections i spotted apart from some glue(?) residue on the outsole.
The laces are the best i've ever had, even better than the viberg laces which i thought are really good. I didn't go out with them yet, but the fit is insanely good, by far the most comfortable shoes i've ever tried on out the box.
The 72 last absolutely blows 2030 out the water, a lot of toe room, can easily accommodate very thick socks and the perfect width for me, unlike with the 2030 where my foot "pushes out" the leather on the sides because its so narrow, the 72 last has more than enough space and they offer different widths too.
Definitely will keep them, gonna go for a walk some time soon in them.

I have Carminas that feel more narrow than Viberg 2030 but they do not push out the sides, they just feel cramped.
