/btg/ - WHITES X ROSE ANVIL DRIFTERS EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and don't wear them daily for too long

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

You're the one who said wearing boots is the same as using a boot drier, since you're too stupid to make the connection I'll explain it to you. Even if the hot air is the same temperature as your feet it's going to dry the leather, your sweating feet with socks between does not have the same affect as blowing hot air. Sorry you're so fucking dumb buddy, boot driers will dry the oils in the leather and make it brittle and prone to cracking.

in my experience mink oil darkens it very slightly.
apply a little dot of it in a piece of the tongue that's hidden to see for yourself, it's the only wall you'll be able to make a good decision.
However I don't think it's necessary to break the boots in, and too much oil is not necessarily good for the leather. Just wear it in small intervals. If you are home put two pairs of socks on top of eachother and wear the boots for 30~90 minutes at a time, go for small walks.
What can help and will not alter the outside leather is rubbing in some hand or facial moisturizer in the inside of your boot in specific areas that are a bit tough. It's the same idea as the mink oil but it won't change the looks of your boot at all.
IIRC I even heard of applying mink oil to the inside of the boot to break it in but imagine the fucking mess.

17393334

A couple of days ago I mentioned that someone was selling a pair of Thursday sneakers high top almost brand new for about half the price, which had caught my eye due to Rose Anvil's video. I pulled the trigger and they arrived today. Here are my first impressions if someone is interested.
The seller said they had worn them for a short stroll and I guess they weren't lying. They came with perfect outsoles, no creasing nor scruffs, so it's like I bought them brand new, or as close as possible to that.
Out of the box these blow any other leather sneaker I've seen, tried or owned. The leather is thick and rough but nice to the touch. There's no loose threads nor gaps anywhere, the construction looks to me as solid as it can be.
Regarding sizing, I got a 10US/43EU. My feet are 275mm long and I normally wear a size 10US in sneakers and 9.5 on dress shoes. For the record, I own a pair of Red Wing Beckmans in 9D. The counter adjusts perfectly to my calf, the widest par of the shoe and the toe box is roomy, even considering that my feet are a bit wide for my usual size, I still normally wear a D width, but I have trouble getting my proper size in shoes that have a slender design. What I mean is that these sneakers are a bit wider than expected, which is the opposite of a problem for me specifically.
They came with two pairs of shoelaces, one cotton pair which is nothing special, and a leather pair. The leather shoelaces are a bit thinner than expected, which makes me question how much traction they can hold, since the shoes are fairly rigid and I really have to pull to close them properly.
Which leads me to question which market Thursday wanted to tackle with this shoe. They're too rigid out of the box and not confortable from the got go as any other sneaker -and mall-tier boots-, but they're to light and fall short when compared to proper boots. They're somewhere in between so as to not appeal to sneakerheads nor boot enthusiasts.

But I'm happy with them because they will fill the spot I wanted them to. I will wear them regularly as a casual shoe when I don't want to wear sneakers not real boots. I really like how they look and they're roomy enoguh so I can put a more cushioned insole if I want to.
Overall I like them and am happy with my purchase, but I don't know if there's really a market for something like this.

Looking for a pair of dress boots that I can wear to the office. Would prefer they add a little extra height to me. Also in a brown color. Budget $300.
Mainly want to wear them during the winter when I wear my overcoat as I'm 5'9 160 lbs and think adding a little height to me would make the coat look better on my silhouette. Also would wear them at the office when I feel I need extra height (major presentation/salary discussion/cute secretary is maining the front door that day).

Carmina RTW boots are under 500€ and in my opinion a better and higher quality construction than Vibergs.
Vibergs at 700€ is actually similar price to Enzo Bonafe MTOs and there's just no comparison in quality there in my opinion.

My brannock size is a 11.5E. My exact measurements is a high instep and arch 9.5FF and the only shoes that will fit me appropriately are bespoke as a result. Viberg went back and forth with me about what sizes might fit depending on last and stated returns and exchanges would be no questions asked until I get shoes that fit. Bakers didn’t do that and they didn’t know what last to get for someone with my instep.

The rep for Viberg also spoke with me about a bespoke boot and methods to get shit done when they run a limited edition I want. Bakers didn’t do that. They just made guesses based on traces that were totally wrong and then when I sent my digital measurements to them it was off by 2 sizes and two widths (EE to FF). Viberg made me an offer if one of their limited runs looked good to me (I don’t want a toe cap). Bakers treated me like a nuisance and Viberg treated me like a challenge. That makes a difference. If you think Viberg isn’t worth the price, that’s ok. I’ll pay 900 bucks for some boots based on my conversation with the rep. I can afford it. Bakers treated me like garbage.

There's dozens and dozens of people who love bakers and they constantly get recommended for figuring out sizing, I feel like there's two sides to this story. Also keep in mind that bakers is a reseller for White's while viberg is actually the manufacturer, a reseller is having to buy the boots themselves for a price that makes it work for White's or whoever and they're not gonna have as much flexibility. If it takes too much shipping back and forth and exchanging stuff it gets to the point where they're losing money and they have no guarantee that there will be future orders to make up for it.

>> No.17394028

>>17394008
They tried to force me to buy fucked up custom orders and would not compare my digital measurements to the lasts they would use. I would bet you five dollars that the reason they have so many weird boots to sell in “that” section is because they got custom boots returned due to their fuck ups. They wanted me to buy 10.5F when Viberg told me if my normal size is 11.5E and 11 or 10.5EE would probably be best but buy what we’ve got and if it doesn’t work we will refund you. Bakers said sales are final. I’m kinda starting to think Whites is clowny based on all this shit I’ve dealt with. I got money, but I want casual boots I can wear with jeans so I don’t stand out and they’re acting high and mighty. I am sorry to admit this, but I got money and I gotta be out in the chemical plant and not stand out. Viberg has helped me the most. Bakers shat on me. Maybe it’s because they’re used to people who are making a severe decision due to the cost, but Viberg said try out these boots and I dropped 900 on them without a care because they said just send them back if they don’t fit right. Bakers said I couldn’t do that and they would charge me for a try on pair because of my weird feet.

Shit is weird.

The try on boot isn’t just a size exchange, the point of a try on boot is so that they can make adjustments to the last and size to fit your foot better after you wear them for 20 minutes around the house, it is actually a completely different boot from the one you will receive after they make adjustments based on how the try on boot fit.
