Personally i use gshocks. Solar power means i dont need to charge them. Radio controlled means they always have the correct time. They have useful info with barometers, depth meters, sea level etc. And yes i dive and hike.
Basically: they are reliable tools that need no power outlets to work, and are extremely resistant to being out in nature, unlike a shitty phone.

First of all, believe it or not, not everyone grew up with a smartphone in their hands, I was wearing watches (cheap, silly ones) way before I ever got a cellphone. It's become something natural, if I leave my house without a watch on my wrist I feel naked, just ain't right.
Secondly, they are beautiful, complex, neat devices. To appreciate a watch is to appreciate more than just having another source for telling time, it's appreciating the design and the engineering behind it.
>Are you guys "into" watches just to flex your social status?
No, I hate that, that is nigger behavior. This is /fa/, I just want to dress nice and feel good about my outfit.
>Why would you need so many watches when all they do is just tell the time.
I currently own only one watch that I bought myself, a 1986 Seiko "datejust". Aside from that I have some 80's and 90's Citizen I was gifted.
>There is nothing your watch can do that a phone can't.

So much of watch shit just ends up as flexing, for any number of reasons: some people actually do want to flex, some people really don't give a shit about anything but looks, some people don't only care about brand name, etc etc.

Rolexes are just extremely well-marketed Tudors and are only popular because the worst kind of famous people like to wear them and show off.

Omegas are literally only relevant because of the last ~30 years of James Bond movies, and are no better or worse than a Rolex (see above).

Neither Rolex nor Omega are worth purchasing because watches are status symbols. If you have to finance a watch (you probably do if you're buying Omega or Rolex), you're poor and should just wear a consumer/enthusiast watch. If you have enough to buy a Rolex or Omega out of pocket, you can afford a truly nice watch like an Audemars Piguet or a Breitling.

Lastly and mostly, any watch commonly known as a "Pepsi" or a "Hulk" is WILDLY tacky and you look like a child wearing it.

in the previous thread we were talking about comfy collections and someone mentioned people that occasionally wear a nice dress watch every once in a while and that's it. This didn't make any sense to me, but I have been giving it some thought and it's actually dawning on me how genius this is.

The comfiest way to own a dress watch is to have a simple 3-handed with no other complications (no dates, no days, etc), it would have to be hand-wound movement. power reserve could be the minimum acceptable. the idea is that whenever you need to wear your dress watch, you handwind it and set the time for the day. that's it. then you put it back in its box and let it stop ticking until the next occasion when you repeat the process. makes so much sense!!

I live in Japan. Every dude over the age of like 25 wears a watch here. 90% of the time it's steel bracelet with a black or blue dial but the more out-there ones will wear shit with like orange rubber straps or even canvas. I'm gonna start paying attention to brands and report back on my findings in a few weeks .

By and large women almost all use smartwatches, with Apple watches being the most popular.

Likely unpopular opinion here, but not much. They've made more interesting watches in the past 5 years than Rolex has in the last 20, but they'll likely never get out of the big crowns shadow.
Don't get me wrong, I like Rolex but the model's that speak to me personally are all vintage and therefore basically unobtainable, or at least not at the prices that I think they are actually worth.
