Translation: tell me I shouldn't care about a micro-adjust bracelet

You should probably care less about a micro-adjust bracelet than you do.

>> No.17389793

Micro-adjust or quick-adjust bracelets are weird things. It's either a feature you never need or need all the time, depending on the watch.

For example, the Cartier Santos bracelet doesn't have a micro-adjust, but it just so happens that it fits my wrist perfectly, so I never need to adjust anything.
While, on the other hand, the Omega Aqua Terra doesn't have a micro-adjust. If I took the half-link out, it was too tight, but with it in, it was too loose. I didn't want to wear the watch on a strap, so I ended up returning the watch, since it would never be comfortable.

>Is it really true that you first have to buy thousands of dollars of random jewelry at Rolex ADs to get put on a waiting list for one?

No. Not anymore. That was the case a couple years ago due to a confluence of crypto-speculators' spending driving up prices plus coof-induced supply chain issues.
Now, though, you can go into any Rolex AD and buy a watch, excluding a small number of the most popular watches like the Daytona and GMT-Master II. If they don't have exactly what you want in stock, they can get it for you within a few weeks.

The hype has died down and Rolex production is back to where it was pre-pandemic.

Look at all the anons lately who are showing off their Explorer I's.

>> No.17389820

Nope, I was on the waiting list for about 3 months for an Explorer.

Went back into the store recently and spoke to another rep. I asked to try on a Black Bay and a Ranger since they still didn't have the Explorer. I said I liked them but I'd be coping and really wanted the Explorer which I've been waiting months for.

They tried to shill me the Tudors, but I said I don't want them. Ten minutes later they 'miraculously' find a Explorer in the back. They let me try it on.

They disappear again for another 10 minutes and say I can actually purchase this one today.

I was under the illusion all of the watches in store are to try only. They definitely have stock, and if they like you/you play their game they'll let you buy one there and then.

As long as you don't act like a fuccboi grifter, looking to buy and flip on the grey market you should be cool. Dress a bit older/smarter than you usually do. Speak intelligently. Treat the conversation like a date. They're trying to sus you out. Get the pussy.

There definitely is a hierarchy in terms of prestige. I know you claim to be immune to prestige, but you aren't, otherwise you wouldn't want a Rolex in the first place.

The most basic 7k€ steel Datejust has literally the same 3235 movement as a full gold 40k€ Submariner Date. It's also made with the same level of finishing in the same factories. Both watches can be serviced or fixed in the same network of ADs (they won't send your watch back to Switzerland, it's done on-site).

I mean, you can shit on the brand as much as you want, you can call the Explorer or the OP "entry-level shitters", but when it comes to quality, consistency and after-sale service Rolex doesn't kid around and has no competitor.
Once you understand that, you realize there is no reason to buy from another brand than Rolex, ESPECIALLY in the 10k price range.

The ExpII I bought for myself when I was on a ski vacation in Switzerland. I'd never owned a "decent" watch before so I figured it would make a good souvenir.

Over the last three years, I've taken the opportunity to liquidate my watch collection. High prices meant that I could get out without taking a loss. So, these two are my only watches.

Money double every 7 years so "earning" $1200 on $3000 over a 30yr period is a fucking tragedy. Opportunity cost is the biggest challenge poor people have in understanding wealth creation. Fat Mortadello owns a Journe and an AP (or may have owned them at one point).

More to the point, though, the discussion of resale value and appreciation and all that is a fig leaf to cover up the fact that most anons here cannot actually afford the Rolex they want. It's simply too much money to spend on a bauble. So they justify it with some financial handwaving.

If you cannot afford to throw your watch into the ocean, you cannot afford it. Full stop.

Legacy only matters if you have a family of your own and, even then, only if you matter to it.

Worst case scenario, if you're dying alone in mom's basement, who gives a shit? You'll be forgotten within a month and within a couple years, anyone who ever knew even in passing you will also be dead.

But if you make it part of your family lineage, it can be a really cool way to leapfrog through history.
My dad bought his Rolex the year I was born and it's going to go to my son when he's old enough, so it represents a linkage to his family history. I have my grandfather's LeCoultre, which he bought when my dad was born. My son's son will get my Rolex, etc.
