Whoever made the rule of leaving your bottom suit jacket button undone is a retarded moron that should be shot in the head with a double-barreled shotgun.

Who the fuck thinks it’s a good idea to have your tie and dress shirt stick out from underneath like a fucking twat?

That button exists (or at least should exist) for a reason.

Absolutely agree.

My theory is that it started as a general rule of unbuttoning the bottom suit button when sitting down. It makes sense, looks better, is more comfortable and isn't as strenuous for the suit.
Normies heard and misinterpreted the rule. They started applying in in all settings, even where the rule made no sense, standing, walking e.c.t. Now we have this strange urban myth of unbuttoning the bottom button being "the correct way" of wearing a suit.

It's stupid and I refuse to buy into this dumb myth.

The first guy to popularize wearing suits was an English prince who was so fucking obese he couldn't even close the bottom button. Therefore, it became part of the "look". Now, allegedly, they design jackets so they're supposed to be unbuttoned at the bottom.

Originally your trouser sat at your naval, and the buttoning point of the jacket was also at the naval, and the tie sat at the naval, so that you would never see anything below the jacket opening but trouser... today's fits are a disaster and this balance is lost.

Also.. if the jacket is designed to be buttoned fully, it will have the room in it but most jacket are not designed for it, the second button is just as decorative as all the buttons on pic related. They're made to look as if they can be buttoned.. but that's not the design.
If you were to try to button it, the fabric would not hang properly

It's a common thing done in menswear. The old regency style tailcoats eventually morphed into modern tailcoats by making them permenantly unbuttoned so much so that today they don't even have buttonholes.
You're beginning to see this in the modern suit where some models will have the second button, but no second buttonhole. And some just have the one button

I think the buttoning rule is stupid as well, why should we listen to some fat king bla bla but the fact remains that suits today are not designed to be buttoned. You can force it.. but it will be too tight at the bottom, and proportionally off.

If you want to wear a suit full buttoned, either make it with enough fabric down there, or just remove the excess button and buttonhole entirely and raise your trouser rise.

Seeing as you're ready to die on this hill just ask yourself when buying your next off the rack suit at Target; does it look good while buttoned? Does it work?

>> No.17365168

Buttoning the last button on the jacket or something similar like a cardigan restricts the fabric so it can't move freely. It just makes the fabric too tight and restricts your movement. That's why it doesn't look good. In case you haven't found out, business clothing was not designed to be utilitarian. If it was, you wouldn't be complaining about a tie in the first place.

First of all, I don't follow the rules set by obese British kings. I close both buttons. I don't give a fuck. Many others have already agreed on that in this thread, so I know I'm not alone with that opinion.
Second, I'm in product design and engineering. Whenever we make a new iteration of a product we cut obsolete parts from the design as a cost saving measure, and that button is bad product design if unused. It doesn't even add redundancy, as it cannot be used instead of the top button - that looks straight up stupid.
And third, my jackets are fitted with the button closed. Sue me if you don't like it.
