Can you imagine how sad people's lives are that they have to save up for something like that, it makes me wonder why they would even continue living, do they not get that life is not worth it if you're not a fully formed human who can experience all the world has to offer? It's like, imagine you're actually doing physical or mental labor to afford a Toyota or some shit, do they not get they're not real people? On one hand I hope they don't because it would be sad if they could reflect on their "lives" and that's all they had to hope for so they had to cope themselves into accepting it, on the other hand I hope they do because maybe they can improve after a few generations?

To you, what does it mean to "save up"? What must the person's finances be like? No savings at all? Paycheck to paycheck, but wearing a $3500 watch?

To me all it means is they pay attention to their spending, like this summer I was about to buy a nice watch, I had my local jeweler's business card and we were negotiating by text, and then I was asked if I wanted to go in on a vacation experience with some old friends, needless to say I value experiences more than watches, so I did that, and that pretty much ate my entire watch budget and then some.

I have a mortgage, about 1/3 equity and 2/3 debt at low interest, I have some savings, some 401k, some money in a brokerage account, I rarely scratch more than 3% of my card limits, but I still "save up" for watches, I'm pretty close to my next watch purchase in fact, but a new set of Dura-Ace wheels is looking pretty fucking tempting right now, who knows which will win? It's a surprise!

Would you say I have a sad life for saving up for watches? I think some might, I'm just curious what kind of situation you're picturing when you write a post like that.

Yes, if you're making purchases that you have to consciously think about (and they're not business-related like opening another branch on a different continent and such) then there's just something profoundly sad about your irrelevant life, it's like have you ever taken a walk through an Indian city on Youtube, check out something like Varanasi or Kolkata, they have millions of people just acting like cattle performing the most basic life-sustaining functions, it's a tragedy on a scale that's hard to comprehend, not a single one of those people will ever live a real life (unless they reincarnate lol).

Nomos is very outspoken politically and some people don't like that. They have so much contempt for working class germans that they make their factory employees all take yearly clases about why racism is bad and how to recognize the signs of right wing radicalization. They donate a lot of money to globalist NGOs and gay related lobbying groups.
Many watch brands choose to avoid social commentary or just do the kind of standard bare minimum performative wokeness but nomos is front and center in their political activism and it rubs people the wrong way.

Exactly, if you're from countries that understand socioeconomic stratification it's perfectly normal to buy a Rolex as your everyday watch, there's just something about Western countries that fucked people's minds up, probably communism or French revolution, where they think the "masses" are actually relevant in any way shape or form and should be considered real people with thoughts, feelings, dreams, aspirations, intellectual capability and so on, which is why I think my Indian example is really good, please look up any walk through Kolkata on Youtube and tell me if any person on the street seems like someone you would talk to about anything, like are you going to discuss Sartre or Milton with them, are you going to ask them for advice on your crypto investments, are you going to bring them into the family for mutual profit, no, you will just see street dogs that if they were self aware would beg you to put them down for their own good.

I thought I made up my mind to get a GS due to my nice lineup of modern and vintage Seiko but all this talk of gay SJW Nomos is making me want a Nomos again, I thought it was just a phase.

Wat do effay? Should I diversify my collection? Any other Homos lovers in here?

To be honest the one thing that bugs me about them is the lack of AR on the glass, in fact handling one in person was what drove me to consider GS. Up to then I was fully committed to going Homos.

If you believe that a watch should be purely mechanical, Spring Drive violates this principle by using an integrated circuit to regulate the movement.
Then, if you believe that, then Spring Drive is just an overcomplicated, overpriced quartz.

If you do not believe the above, then Spring Drive is still too expensive, particularly in terms of maintenance, which starts at 1,000 dollars, and only Seiko can do it.

The Airman is more stylish. That's the watch I would get. 36mm Purist.

However, the 9F is objectively a more robust watch. More accurate, better power reserve and all that. Pretty comfortable too. I've owned one in the past and it's a great piece. I still sold it, though, because it was ultimately just a soulless thing. Also, I had purchased a LE version and the prices on them rose up.

Hence my use of the word "good" since you'll mostly find their 70s designs in that price bracket. Same with Rolex and a lot of other brands really, the 70s weren't a good time for watch designs and it's the decade that has the least interest for collectors.

casio does have square(-ish) watches, but none quite like that. some names to look for are mq-38 and mtp-v007 are some of the more square and undecorated ones (don't know if they're still in production). square but not for those with little money (and also nothing in style like that nomoes) is the OCW-T5000. a very nice piece, but with a pricetag in the high 3 digits.

Midsize Seamaster is pretty much your only option except maybe for the new 36mm Breitlings. Seamaster has a million varieties though and I'm no expert on all the different reference numbers. The most recent Coaxial version will probably get pretty close to your budget but there's old Brosnan-era ones you can get for like 1k if you look hard enough.
