These are pretty much the only iconic watches, ie watches that are recognizable at first glance and with some sort of cultural relevance.
Seiko should be on the list for the first quartz watch but they don't have a single iconic recognizable design.

I have a couple G-Shocks, several F-91W's and some other Casios.
The one that gets the most wrist time is the F-91W.
The two reasons are:
>it's light and slim
>it's perfectly durable for my daily activities
The G-Shocks, though cool, ended up being unnecessary.
I still have my G-Shocks and one of them is used fairly regularly for specific tasks.
However, for my daily use, the F-91W is absolutely perfect.
The only thing I'd suggest is getting after market straps.
That's what makes it so wearable.

What are the pleasing watches you've own based on tactility? The most pleasing to wind? The best bezel action? I like the feel of winding vostok movements, my vintage seamaster wing 5xx movement, st1901, and especially unitas movements. Dont really like seiko movements or the h50 in a khaki mechanical I tried on because they were to smooth and not clicky enough. Is the peseux 7001 better? Any other ones stand out. I've only really tried seiko dive bezels so I'm useless on that front but they dont seem bad.

I had a spare A158 lying around and sourced its bracelet for the F-91W.
Thankfully, these things are dirt cheap.
Whenever I have spare parts and modules, I assemble a Frankenstein Casio and make it a gift.

Also:
The holes on the F-91W are very small.
A standard spring bar will probably not fit.
The holes are designed for a pin that's held in place by friction.
The F-91W was not designed for spring bars at all.
You'll have to get the smaller spring bars to fit those little holes.

Clarification:
When I say "smaller" what I mean is "thinner."
The pins at the ends of the spring bars are a certain diameter.
Like a millimeter or something.
You'll need a spring bar with slightly smaller pins to fit the slightly smaller holes.
At least, that's what happened with my particular watch.

Help me decide on a poorfag cope watch, effay, I got a raise and of course I'm gonna spend it like a retard to impress men (ok also hopefully women but to be honest men, durr hurr durr I wear it to impress myself, I also smoke weed for the taste), the choices are:

AQ4020-54Y
SBGX263
SBGN011
SBGN029
LLD 36mm on a milanese

The AQ ticks almost all of the boxes but the stories about citizen support kinda scare me a little, and also I prefer the way the soiko second hands move, Also I already have a decent collection of vintage and modern soiko so a GS would better scratch the itch

The SBGX263 is the only other competitor to the AQ in the size department, but I don't like the absence of the independently adjustable hour hand, and the lack of a perpetual calendar is kinda cheesy too. Also the blank space in the bottom half of the dial I'm a little unsure if I like or don't. I will say it looks like the image I have in my head as the platonic ideal of an adult's watch so it has that going for it.

The SBGN011 scratches my itch for a blued hand on a soiko that has gone unscratched since I missed out on the blue spark back in the day. However it is a bit too large for me at 40mm. I can live without the perpetual calendar because it has the GMT and ind. adjust. hour hand.

The SBGN029 is kinda almost ok size wise, still a little big at 39mm but the lug to lug is with half a mm of the first two. I love the red GMT hand on the black dial and I very much love the 24 hour bezel, the lume also means a lot to me, but the white background on the date window kinda irritates me.

The LLD 36mm on a milanese is my concession to really really wanting a LLD but being too much of a wristlet for the real thing. I am only mentioning it to add some diversity to the selections. I do wonder if the milanese longines bracelet is better than what's on the japanese watches. I'm kinda done with mechanicals though, I've already got too many and this one doesn't even have a very interesting MVMT.

It's strange, when it's up close it sort of looks like it could be too big, but once I move it further away from my face it looks totally proportionate, mirror shots look perfect too. My girlfriend has bigger wrists than me and the watches I get away with look stupid on her, regardless of viewing position.

My soiwrists have a silver lining it seems.

I forgot the other thing about the AQ4020-54Y is the crown area. Crown guards always make me feel a little unhappy, I've never owned a watch with a 3 o'clock crown and crown guards, and also the lack of the signed crown is a bit ghetto for a non-vintage-style watch.

The rest of the watch is pretty much perfection though.

Plus the washi paper dial on that citizen really pops but I'm thinking it might be too attention getting. I always buy the most obnoxious neckties too, thinking it's subtle and then realize it was a mistake after. I do'nt want to make that mistake here. The SBGX263 is such a grown up watch. I feel like it will never go out of style. We're in the middle of a crazy textured dial fad at the moment.

On the other hand I like citizen's marketing videos on youtube, and I have a thing for the underdog, which they sort of are here.

I don't understand the appeal of GMT watches. They are generally more expensive, the 4th hand clutters the look and the complication is useless. Common excuses for """needing""" a GMT watch:

Passing on a solid mechanical to your child when you die is based.
Throwing away an F-91W when you die is cringe.
I say this as a person with only Casio digitals.
In terms of affordable accuracy, you're right.
This is why I have so many Casio digitals.
But I'm not kidding myself about my little collection.
I'm saving up for a solid mechanical so that I have something to pass on.
I want to give something worth inheriting.
And I don't care what I'm called for that.

I generally agree with this.
It's why I'm only interested in specific watches.
Most people never use the complications or the durability of the watches.
This is why my daily is an F-91W.
It's truly all I need.
Even still, I would like a nicer watch for when I want to "dress up" a bit.
And if one is going to save up for a nicer watch, may as well go all the way.
Well, that's my thinking anyhow.

Hey guys, my dad recently gave me a box of his old watches from the 90's that he doesn't wear anymore. One of them fit my wrist pretty well face-size wise but the velcro strap is half an inch too long for my wrist and the extra strap-length flops to the side when I put it on. What sort of strap do you think would fit underneath these rollers besides some other thin, velcro strap? I'm sure this is a trivial answer but I don't know much about watches, I only owned one before today. I read the guides in the OP, but I'm concerned a NATO strap or something like that would be too thick to fit under it. Pic is the watch in question.

You actually rotate the bezel where the line says mode with an arrow to use the different functions of the watch iirc very cool mechanism that i wish was used more often
If you are going to change the battery yourself you might need to short the battery against a pad inside whith a pair of tweezers or something to reset the movement when you put the new battery in.
See 6:00 in this vidoe for more information. Just so you don't think its broken when you put the new battery in

Thanks anon, I tried it out and the bezel does rotate which is pretty cool. I appreciate the information about battery replacement as well, I'll watch the video and see if I can find a copy of the owner's manual online. Luckily Seiko's website has a pdf of all its models and their matching battery number so I don't have to hunt that down.

Yes. If you want something inexpensive get a $10-50 casio you can throw into a woodchipper and not give a shit about. No one will actually think you're poor but everyone will also know you're not flexing poorly. Wear a Tudor and everyone will think you're poor- you saved your pennies for a year for that shitter and it's the biggest most exciting thing

The only person I know personally who has a tudor has a couple of high end european SUVs, a very nice brownstone in a very expensive neighborhood, and 3 kids in expensive, exclusive private schools, also his wife doesn't work but just sits around and radiates beauty. I rather doubt he saved up for a year for his tudor.

Yes it's the prettiest turd. The only good looking g-shocks are the square models, and then the top of the line model just coz it's so functional it justifies how it looks
